55 year old Foreman vs Wlad: Who wins
55 year old Foreman vs Wlad: Who wins
Never write of a great fighter.
Foreman has spoke of his regret of never fighting on long enough to face Wlad, he believes age in nothing but a number and as long as you are fit and healthy you can continue to box.
Hopkins could take Foreman's record of being the oldest champion if he beats Pascal.
Foreman was 45 when time time he shook the world and beat Michael Moorer to become Heavyweight Champion once again.
So could a fifty something Foreman beat Wlad, I think at that stage of his career Foreman would have had a real chance, he had the power to KO Wlad, no doubt, and I would not write of a great fighter like Big George from doing the unthinkable.
Would you have given George a chance 7-8 years ago?
And how long can fighters go on for? If a boxer is fit and healhty enough can the just continue and continue?

No matter how well you look after yourself age will always catch up with you. Speed and reflexes go eventually. The brain might know what to do but the body can't carry it out quick enough.
Can't put an age on it every fighter is different.

Wlad is chinny, Foreman huge punch, it would only take one punch as seen in the Moorer fight.
Do you think a 45 year old Foreman beats Wlad?

Wlad.
I would never back a slow, old fighter whose only tactic is to bank on landing a lottery punch.

Guess you picked Moorer to beat him as well.

Couldn't agree more. What next, '82 year old LaMotta vs Margarito arm-wrestling in a bath of liver. Who wins'?

D4 this is interesting and would make a good article.

Don't see where you're coming from with the Wlad/Foreman stuff though.

I was a kid at the time, didn't pick either. Foreman got lucky, it happens, but you can't bank on it. Wlad 9 times out of 10.

He has slowed down though and his reflexes aren't what they used to be. Hopkins is a very intelligent fighter and has learned how to adapt his style to cope with the affects of ageing.

I'm pretty glad he never thought about it at the time because Wlad would have destroyed him. Wlad to win 9/10 imo.

If we're honest he got very very lucky against Moorer, was comprehensively outboxed then landed one big right and it was over, not a firm believer in considering lightning striking twice so would have to go for Wlad via boring 12 round decision.

Re: 55 year old Foreman vs Wlad: Who wins
Foreman would have no chance. He always struggled with movers. Young made him look bad when he was 28.
Wlad would have made a 45 year old Foreman look like a hamburger.
Don't forget the oh so chinny Morrison outboxed him, even though it was not his strength and he kind of "just tried it for that fight".
I don't even think the Foreman who KO2 Frazier is a cert against Wlad.

Oh no the Foreman who beat Frazier demolishes Wlad in a round or two, wouldn't even be competitive

Wlad doesn't move that well. Especially back then

Re: 55 year old Foreman vs Wlad: Who wins
Foreman is terribly overrated.
In his prime he was good at demolishing guys who were there to be hit early, but looked awful against fighters who could box.
His comeback was a great spectacle, but without hitting the lottery against Moorer, would be little more than a footnote in history.
Would he even be top 10 without the comeback ?
As an aside I would pick a young Foreman to take Wlad out early more often than not.

Re: 55 year old Foreman vs Wlad: Who wins
The foreman that Ko'ed Fraizer would destroy Wlad for sure, back then he was one of the most devastating heavyweights going! But id have to agree an older slower 45+ George Foreman would get jabbed to death and lose to Wlad.

Wlad beats a 55 year old Foreman but i doubt he beats a younger Foreman, would expect Wlad to be twitchy and nervous about Foremans power, Foreman KO 4.

Ok most of you seem to be picking Wlad to beat the 55 year old Foreman.
At what age would it be tipping in Foreman's favour?
50,45, 40, 35?

Foreman said he wished he faced Wlad when he was 55 years old, probably because Wlad is chinny.

Too be fair, Foreman says alot of things.
He also said in 2005 that Audley Harrison would knock out Vitali Klitschko in 6 rounds and go on to rule the HW division.

Foremans five fights in one night is great.
Thing is with this fight, Wlad would fight the sameway he always does rather than steaming in and taking the old fella out. Wlad knows he has to protect his glass jaw at all costs.
