I noted we picked Jade Dernbach...and immediately went back to sleep.
The horror. I'm guessing Australia have crossed 200?

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
213 runs mate.
Congratulations on the England Women's team winning earlier on and retaining the Ashes.
So they have an unassailable 10-4 lead with only 2 more T20s (2 pts each) to go.
It was a decent 150 run total from Australia but perhaps 10-20 runs short. Edwards and Taylor batted so well... made it look easy.
England wobbling at 45/3 after 5th overs. Wright has just played on and now Hales is out lbw to Henriques.

I thought our batting line up was "frightening" so 213 should be won at a canter. Mind you: Lumb, Wright, the horribly out of form Root, I suppose it is frightening!

These two are by far are best two potential wise, and will be playing in every form for a long time.. A limited over specialist like Morgan can't be described as a best batter anyway.

No way. Morgan is far better than Root, at this level Not saying Root isn't any good, btw.

If you want to confine this to t20 only then Kp is even better than mogs. And mogs is on a slide anyway. Not sure about his future

Morgan is IMO our 2nd best odi and T20 player, behind KP.

Don't see much of an issue with Morgan's future in limited overs cricket, he was their best bet in the recently concluded ODI series

yes possibly but my point was about out two best batsmen full stop.. I am pinning a lot of hope in them both - especially in the real format of the game

It was a bit quiet without you on the boards this summer.

The real format? tests? fair enough, but they're playing a T20 game. if it had been a test, I would not have piped up with Morgan being our best player.

Haha I jest LB I jest!
Morgan is deffo one of our best ODI/T20 players I agree, although I do think Root is better in limited overs than tests. They're both clever players of spin which helps in the middle overs of the shorter formats

Yeah well Line, i was there for the tests mate.. I suffered it. Then I had to take a breather from the ODI's
A combination of getting my sleep pattern back on track and needing to get some work done and the fact I felt like a sado masochist staying up to be tortured by England..
I didnt even realise mogs was our top scorer in the ODI's - that's how out of touch I have been!
(edit! I didn't even know he got a game!!)

Yeah, I had the same dilemma during your summer, oakey... and a couple more before that.
I was watching the younger Mogs the other day (2007 WC) when they had all these non-stop crickets specials on Oz Day.
You could see he was something special even back then. (some very good Irish players in that team)
Now he has got a lot stronger and more confident... his game has advanced year after year. Great to see.

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
I really wanted to see Mogs do well at Test level. I felt it was cheating to bring him on-board to only play in Limited over stuff. Well in fairness we gave him the shot, and it is more down to him.. He really should have tried to work at the test level game a bit more.. His statement that he allways dreamed of playing test cricket for England when he was 14 doesn't really hold much weight any more.

Bopara is getting runs with no pressure of winning.......if his team is in a real winning position...he would more likely have choked by now

So it's all over. Oz win by 13.
Not a bad effort by England in the end... on the virtual moral positives scorecard.
If any of Hales, Morgs, Buttler, had fired then they could have easily got there.

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
we never looked like winning tbh.
oh well not embarrassing!!
And anyone can win the WC T20.
positives for me.
Great to see root out there. I think this sort of format can only open his mind and make him more confident playing shorts at test level. Because his major problem was getting bogged down in intense situations.. He is a shot player and he needs the confidence back..
Did he play any ODI's?

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
You could understand why he may have the odd attitude problem. he way he was shifted about, the way carbarry used to stare at him after he went for the odd single , but then carbs did it to him in reverse, the way the other batters around him didn't seem to try at the same rate he did.. The way he has come in to an unhappy England camp.
Palace are 14th because of the welsh legend Pulis..

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
Can we just say England goyt the selections of the bowlers wrong?
They really need to give up on Briggs in this format. Bresnans record is cr@p too and Dernbachs little better.
Was Stokes left out because its felt hes not a frontline bowler or as a rest? If the former I have to ask if his bowling would be less effective than Bresnan's in international limited overs.
If they are going to pick a young spinner who gets hammered every game why not get Bairstow in who can at least bat.
I guess Dernbach got a pass after doing well in the summer but Id like to see a proper pace bowler push him out.
The batting line up looks solid and frankly is there much (other than bringing back KP for Lumb) anyone would change?
Chasing down 213 is too big an ask though, they did well to get close.

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
Danny Briggs has an economy rate of over 11 from 7 T20's. I'm all for giving people a chance to stake their claim and not judging them on one performance, but I just don't think Briggs is good enough. To be fair to Dernbach, his T20 record is fairly decent. It's in the ODI's where he struggles massively where he just gets milked and then slogged.
As Peter says, the batting looks fairly solid though. If one of Hales, Buttler or Root go on to make a big score from their start (A 60-80) then England would actually have got very close to Austrlia's score. It was a decent effort as it was anyway. KP for Lumb is the obvious improvement (Wright up to open?) and then I feel fairly comfortable with the batting line up. But Broad aside, no-one fills me with confidence on the bowling front.

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
Dernbach and his slow balls no longer confuse batsmen and he bowls a lot of rubbish. He's not a bowler of international class no matter what format. But now that Finn is in an utter mess and unlikely to be available for the World T-20, they have to carry Dernbach around. Stokes has to play in all formats. He's certainly better than both Bresnan and Dernbach with the ball, and his batting abilities are obvious. He has to come in for one of them, and then Pietersen in for Lumb. Think they should also move Wright up the order.

Re: AUS vs ENG t20 Double Header (match thread)
I would say with Stokes if England are playing Wright and Bopara that should he come in for Bresnan or Dernbach it has to be because hes one of the best bowlers available, and that his ability to bat would be a bonus.
I thought they might give the lad Jordan a go but apparently his domestic T20 record is embarrassing. I guess England really do need Finn to sort his life out.
