I dont think he swung his arm back intentionally, but I agree with GSC. There is no obvious reason for it to be overturned. If the ref sees intent then its a red, watching it again is unlikely to change his mind. I'd rather we got on with it

Don't agree with the Red for one second, but the FA are creating problems for themselves down the line if they (effectively) allow appeals for appeals.
Meanwhile, hope someone with more balls than West Ham's current outfit sorts Chico Flores out - a retrospective Red for time wasting would help.

Always a problem, always want players to get reds for really doing someone like Chico over if they're gonna get reds at all. Happened with Kebe in the championship too

In all honesty, this doesn't appear to be the best precedent.
If your appeal fails, just threaten legal action and then you get another appeal!

It would be funny to see the red card overturned and for Carroll to then get sent off against Villa

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
But as the referee pulls out the red card, Sam Allardyce's legal team quickly invade the pitch and the card is immediately rescinded.

And for them to get sent off and another team of Legal Eagles to invade the pitch with a view to overturning THOSE red cards only for them to be sent off and we end up with wave after wave of sendings off

Pleased to see Tim Sherwood has come out in favour of retrospective action against those who feign injury in order to cause an opponent to be carded:
"Retrospectively I would go back and punish the player who is diving around more than the player causing the offence."
Quite, or give teams a gotcha wildcard, one free studs up assault on tosspots like Chico.
May even recall Ron Harris from his rocking chair.

I'm really sorry to see Vidic go but I think it's the right time for both player and club. His best days are behind him and hopefully he can secure a big pay packet for a season or two. As mentioned, Moyes is saved from dropping him in the future. Utd will miss his leadership qualities but they've obviously got something planned for the summer (or Evra's getting the captaincy!!). Anyway, I wish him all the best in his future and I hope he comes back some day, either in a role with the club or just sitting in the stands.

Bad timing really. A mere 6 months after moyes says vidic is the best defender he has ever worked with it is now a mutual decision.

Haha those comments brought a smile to my miserable visage. Despite his pantomime xenophobic views and his desire to felch on a first date, Duty is fast becoming one of my favourite posters. Obviously my refusal to support the England football team and appreciation of Luis Suarez means I'll get no reciprocal love but I just felt a need to let you know Joshua.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
I'm pretty sure I've said this before but I rather adore England in terms of scenery and a huge amount of the culture. If I didn't I'd have moved long ago. I just see no need to cheer on someone just because randomly they've been born in the same country as me. I cheer on people/teams I like for whatever reason I choose to like them. Be it a personality trait or the way they entertain me in their chosen sport. None of them actually really affect my life in any way.
I cheer on the England cricket team because I have in the past and do now (despite ditching my most recent favourite) like the players. The England football team on the other hand are pretty much full of dull and rather unpleasant individuals (as much as I know them) therefore I don't want them to win. I also loathe the type of people who seem to measure their own stature in terms of the team they "support" be it England or Chelsea.
All this "we're proud of our lads" crap does my suede in. How can you be proud of something you've had precisely no influence on?
Suarez to use the other night's argument may be a complete ar$e for all I know but he tries his guts out, seems to genuinely enjoy playing for the sake of playing and does things other players don't which I enjoy watching. Hell I was even amused by his bite in the same way I thought it was really funny years ago when Cantona went for the bell*nd Palace fan. No one really got hurt, I'm sure Ivanovic has inflicted more damage on others. In other words he has redeeming features which appeal and means I'm happy to see him win.
I just don't go in for all of the tribalism that goes with supporting teams/individuals any more I'm afraid.
There's another one for your journal lads..........I'm here all night.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Fair enough. The odd thing is i used to feel the same.. I rarely supported any england team when I was younger. I suppose I had more of a life back then..
But the Suarez point was very hypocritical. You have in the past stated that you hate England players due to there behaviour and then you state you will support Suraez.
By the way we all like Suraez, you are not original in that respect. But he is no better person than Terry.
I am a Palace fan and hell I even thought Cantona was justified in kicking that idiot palace fan.
Cantona was one of my fav players. But I cant stop supporting England because I like other players. I support England not to feel a sense of false pride but to support a team. My team.. The only Team I can support..

But Hibbz, they're from our country. They share a similar upbringing, a similar culture, and a similar way of life.
We can relate to English footballers far easier than say Uruguyan footballers, or Italian.
We share the language of our fellow Englishman; we share the blood, sweat and tears. We have far more in common. We are a people united.
With St. George in my heart I am English. No surrender ever. God Save the Queen. The Great Escape. England till I die. You know the rest!
I can't support a foreign team. It's just not me.

Big game tomorrow for palace.
West Brom back on form. Palace still playing this bench level style footy. We have kept a performance level up that means we wont let any team beat us. You have to play a lot better than our quality to do that. Proved by the fact we have won 5 and drawn 1 out of our last 6 games v the bottom sided clubs..
Who would have though Palace could be so constant even under pulis!?
This is a 6 pointer if they has ever been one..
A lot of other key match ups tomorrow. The welsh derby, west ham v villa, Sunderland v hull
and the key match at the top Liverpool v arsernal..
I am going for
Palace
West ham
Sunderland
Arsenal
Cardiff

Liverpool-Arsenal to be a draw. Maybe Liverpool will prevail if they can take their performance from the recent Merseyside Derby.
Interestingly, Robbie Savage, writing in some left-wing rag today, thinks Arsenal will win the title....but lose tomorrow.
Can't see Arsenal finishing any higher than 3rd myself.

That's cool mate, so long as you don't denigrate people who you see as different to yourself I've no issue. I was just attempting to explain my stance.
I'm not going to blindly cheer someone on just because they happen to have been born within a particular set of borders laid down in the dim and distant past.
If you were born in Liverpool and support them would you for example cheer on Everton against Norwich? I think you'd be in a minority. Same with the Manchester clubs.

Let's see if Giroud can bag a goal against a top EPL side
Hang on, let's see if Suarez can bag a goal against a top EPL side.
Should be a good game, looking forward to it immensely. We've been waiting for Arsenal to fail, still hasn't happened.
As for NUFC, can only see the miserable week getting worse, especially with the injuries.

Good piece in The Guardian today saying at Carra Rd tomorrow there is the biggest clash in styles in the league.
Pellegrini's free flowing City, not afraid to go gung ho against Chris Hughton's ridiculously cautious Norwich.

Mysti, out of the top 3 I'd prefer the Arse to win the title. Just can't see it happening.
Nando, out of interest who has the best record in the bigger games? I genuinely have no idea.
John, regardless of Suarez's top game goal ratio he'd still fetch a world record fee if he was to be sold.
Freek, you look good tonight! (can't leave myself out here)

He scored against us in a losing effort when they were 2-0 down as well, it's all about context with these 23 goals in 19 games, how many of them affected the result of the game?
Last season for instance Van Persies goals secured something like 24 points for us which is quite significant.

I'd say Henry or Van Nistelrooy off the top of my head. Aguero had the best goals to minutes ratio but that means nothing in this respect of goals against fellow top sides or top 4.
Agree Freek, Suarez is class, would go for easy £60m+.
Hammersmith - Who's Vidic's replacement for you? Clearly he was never going to come back anywhere near his previous best after such an injury, especially at his age. Can see him getting a payday in Turkey or moving to the slower-paced & more suited to his style, Serie A. As for the replacement, truly up in the air. A year ago, I would of pinpointed Mats Hummels as the perfect replacement, however, United's position is the reason that deal might not happen.

I think he has all ready pre signed for a Seria A club.
I would have predicted he would have gone to Beckham's Miami before i heard that tbh.
He would do well there and get a nice pay day.

A quick calculation suggests that Suarez has won us 11 points thus far. On this gradient he's on course to win Liverpool 18+ points in a non title challenging team.
Context indeed.
