Yes! And he was brilliant! His shooting is iffy, but his crossing was good today. Caused Clichy and Zabaleta no end of problems. Pilkington also did well on the other flank. Why on earth he'd start Gutierrez ahead of either is truly truly beyond me!
Ah cheers Nando, no wonder RVW was so annoyed. Wouldn't fancy him against Yaya tho lol

He goes past defenders with ease. One point today he held off Kompany, then megged him and then put a poor cross in. That was Redmond in a nutshell. Raw talent, just needs some more experience/work and he'll be a great player. Hard to believe he's only 19

How bad was Ozil today!!! Money well spent. Now that i think about it, has Ozil actually played well against any big side?
This is John's forte. I eagerly await....
As Ent said, Mourinho always substituted Ozil in Madrid because he's either a star or distinctly average. After a great start, he's faded considerably. He even had the majority of the Xmas period to relax & recharge the batteries & he still looks flat with no spark. In the big games, where the pressure is big, Ozil has failed to deliver, especially in the away games. Mourinho could not have such a luxury player in his side who offers nothing defensively for the team, similar to Mata. I'm not sure Wenger is so adamant on Ozil to do the uglier side of the game, which in a tight Championship, where every fine detail counts, will probably cost you. I wouldn't blame Ozil for everything, when he has created chances this season, they have usually been wasted by a certain Frenchman. You simply can't win a Championship with a striker like Giroud, yeah, he offers certain aspects but his finishing is appalling & he hasn't scored a goal against any top team this year. All these issues are bare for everyone to see now. Losing 5-1 @ Anfield, losing 1-0 @ Old Trafford & losing 6-3 @ Etihad is quite clear evidence that this Arsenal side are going to come up short this season. With trips to Goodison, Stamford Bridge & playing Man City @ home, I can only see Arsenal falling further away, more likely into the clutches of Liverpool.
Look, I've loved watching Arsenal this season, however, without addressing the key issues, they won't be winning trophies. Tough day for them but in everyone's eyes, it was most likely coming.
I actually thought Arsenal were due another spanking as their recent performances were becoming a bit complacent.
I was honestly shocked that Wenger didn't attempt to buy a top forward during the transfer window. It was clear to even all their fans that it is an area that Arsenal desperately needed quality, more so once Walcott got injured. Now they may have blown their best chance to win the league in eons.
As you said, Giroud, while he does have his strengths, is basically a statue up front. Once Liverpool got their third goal there was never going to be a way back.
Ozil is a very talented player but drifts in and out of games. His excellent assist record is down to his killer final ball rather than his major influence on games.
Arsenal would have been better off getting someone like Gourcuff. Similar type of player but a hell of a lot cheaper. The big cash should have been spent on a forward such as Balotelli.

Balotelli staying at Milan looks slim, heard that Puma are already willing to fund the deal because they sponsor both Arsenal & Mario. They need that cutting edge up top, it's the difference maker.

Not sure Ballo will give you that cutting edge per se.

To be honest, I don't think the gunners are ready to win the league yet. They need another quality center forward and some luck with injuries which they haven't had. Although frankly I don't put this loss down to injuries we were just outplayed in every area of the field. Overall I am happy with the direction of the club, we aren't selling our stars, we got a great young core of talent that is maturing, and we are now a club that can buy world class players. But really champions don't lose like that. Arsenal should focus on the FA cup match and some payback at liverpool. Watching Chelsea and City in these past weeks and this performance leads me to believe that we still need a piece or two to win the EPl and to win the Champion's league, which should be our ultimate goal. But instead of being pessimistic I am happy that the team in the last year is in upward trend. I also have a bit of regret because we don't have 2 out of 3 of our best attacking players. This team does miss Aaron and Theo, we are a different side when those two play. Since they have been out we have struggled to score goals.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Agree. At the start of the season, a title challenge was probably not realistic. Buying Ozil was putting in place a platform or foundation to grow from & to enhance your reputation as a club, now in an upward attractive trend. In my opinion, this year's success was just a premature bonus if you see where I'm coming from. Buying Ozil was the starting point to bring in further world class players to the club & to have them all in place by the start of August 2014 most likely or at the earliest. Next season, should be the year that you can sustain a title challenge & put to bed these lingering doubts about your squad.

No doubt Wenger never saw that headline when questioned over it.
Discipline has never been his strong point.
Great work by Giroud there.

We've had this debate before Matthew I believe, I'll back Big John to the hill. Second best English GK behind Hart for me. Followed by Forster then Foster who I've never rated.

Fair enough. You've seen Ruddy and Forster for at least a season's worth of games, where as I guess you only see highlights/two games a season of Fozzy, he normally plays badly against you as well!! First mistake he's made this season that I can remember, and a great tackle for the utterly ridiculous penalty decision by Foy.
I'd get used to it though, whilst Roy is in charge, Foster will be the Number 2, Roy loves Fozzy.
