Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Not sure what's going to happen in t his game..
More bothered about watching what Ox can do again..
Its not a forgone conclusion for me.
I do think Moyesball is pretty decent against possession teams..

I don't care if Liverpool are on TV or not and, as far as I'm concerned it can be Man Utd all day every day in HD so long as Rodgers and the boys get the wins they need.

I'm coming to Villa Park for the game Westi, there any decent pubs around the ground?

Massive game for Albion tomorrow at home to Fulham. This really is must win, I do feel quietly confident about it though based on how we've performed at home under Pepe.
Have to say that Fulham's new manager seems a bit of a character. Anyone see his press conference yesterday? Someone asked about his training sessions and he just said "Ask Raul what he thinks about my training sessions."

The Witton Arms is ok for away fans, right by Witton station. Can see the ground from there.
Was in the home bit before the Newcastle game. The away scetion is quite big.
Am sure there will be Norwich fans in there.
Apart from that, not to sure re away fans.
Normally drive. Or if staying the night or 2 drink in Digbeth, just down from the Bullring.
Some decent pubs around there.
Only 10 mins on the train from New Street to Witton.
You are probably going by road though?

300k a week for Rooney.
blimey..
thats close to being insane.. just shows Uniteds desperation doesnt it.. Is even messi or ronaldo on more?
But hey if they do have to sell him now- at least they will get half decent money for him as the contract is 5 and a half years

I actually believe he's on the same basic but the wage goes upto 300k on performance related bonuses or what Man Utd achieve over 5 years. He was already on 250k wasn't he or am I wrong? Clearly United can afford the deal, Woodward might be a clown, however, he's agreed some staggering commercial deals for United recently, that will end up paying for Rooney's contract increase.
As for Wayne, disappointing that we won't see him in the Champions League next season.

i think irts deffo 300k
But From Man u's point of view. Its pay him what they need to pay him or lose him for much less money , But if they can now keep him.. With rooney in the team they at least have more of a chance in buying other players.
But signing a player till they are 34 on a basic of 300k is unheard of .. But to United's credit they really had no choice on the Matter.
It really is make these plays or its all over..

He's probably got two years left in him of top quality, once he's into his thirties the passion & commitment to remaining in top shape will decline & he'll inevitably end up going backwards towards a more permanent midfield sitting role. Goals will dry up & they will still be paying him £300k for much less impact & importance. It will end in tears at some point.

People call Wayne Rooney stupid. But by god he knows how to make money.
If he does stay at united.. He will not be a giggsy!
as John says - he will probably be sitting in the cafe chowing down on full English brekkies before kick of on a Saturday(playing against millwall )

Unless Rooney single handedly scored the goals that win Utd the Premiership Champions League and get them BACK into the F.A. Cup, there's no way he's worth that pay rise.
For that money, I'll offer him a swap. I'll happily run aimlessly around old Trafford berating the referee and worrying that people might see my bald patch in HD and he can come and do my job for two years.

It's 15 million a season, cheaper than replacing him.
Plus we could sell him if we wanted now.

Not only that, but its a message that they can keep talent and a message that they can pay big. If Rooney left, their transfers dealings would be weakened. That message of pulling power to keep him is worth it

Good move in my eyes, theyve almost guaranteed they will keep their top player. Even if he was to be sold, your looking at £40 million now as opposed to f/a.

as a united fan cant say im too impressed with paying rooney that, he's earning more than messi!! my hope is that it can be merely to make more money on him if he moves on. as others have said i cant see him improving from now till the end only worsening.

yes . to be a footy agent...Its a well paid job thats for sure
However this is the reality. Rooney chose this agent and
No other United player has put the cosh on United before. All the ones before have been kicked out- And that isn't to do with his agent. Rooney has certainly played his own part in this as well.
when he got his last increase he wasn't even playing well. At least this time he has been

I've always wondered how dearly Utd fans hold Rooney to their hearts.
I (unfortunately) know a few and a couple of them are already using his new salary as a stick to hit him with.
Not really relevant but still I wonder?

not very closely for me after the first time he started handing in transfer request and dictating what players we should sign. i should add that i am more harsh on him than most united fans i know
he's been our best player this season but the two seasons before he's been pretty poor. only ever plays well in spurts and if ever injured takes a fair amount of time to regain match fitness. something which i think for 300k a week we should expect more professionalism from him.

Paying Rooney 300k a week and paying 37m for Mata is an odd move. Matas been marginalised on the wing when Rooney played. I'd have cashed in Rooney and played Mata central.
I'm sure United would like some of Arsenals CM but I doubt Arsenal would be. Straight cash if anything

Yes many would have thought Man U bought Mata in the knowledge Rooney would be off.
Maybe that is still going to happen. Its just I cant see a TOP forign team paying 40-50 m for him.
I doubt he would start at barca or bayern. He probably would at Madrid but at 28 that seems to much money even for them.
He would start at teams like Dortmund or athletico(costa will be off)- but neither could afford him let alone the wage they would have to pay.
Chelsea would possibly stump up 40m - but again - you now have to pay him 300k a week! and United dont want to strengthen them.
PSG is the only club I could see him going to. But would Rooney want to go there.
My prediction is rooney will stay on till he is 30 odd then move for big money to PSG or the states

So after 5 years of 300k a week, he then will be offered or become a 'Manchester United Club Ambassador' at the club. So that's basically being paid a sackful of cash to watch United from the stands, like Ferguson is doing in his role. Isn't Ferguson basically being paid like £2m a year just to attend a couple of meetings or seminars a year on behalf of United. Embarrassing stuff.

well to be fair Fergie deserves 2 mill a year as a pension from the club.. so no major drams there- It just really seems weird that Man U are treating Rooney the way they never treated others that have done the same thing to them..

ok kind of gutted about this Rooney` re signing timing.
Rooney has been a little bit disillusioned last few games and his performance level has dropped.
I was quietly confident about a palace 0-0
but know I see Rooney playing a massive part again..

The ambassador thing is laughable.
Rooney cares for MUFC like I do all my ex missus' mothers. A fool and their money is easily parted I suppose.

All football clubs are fools I guess.
Just the modern game, you've to pay important players what they want.
Look at kroos, bayern will end up doubling his salary to keep him.

roonsys deal is 250k a week in basic wage, his commercial rights bump it up to 300k, which i dont have too much of a problem with, he's the reason for the shirt sales/sponsorship in the first place
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26294274
makes a few good points that when all said and done it would have cost more to replace him (transfer and new wages) than it would have to offer him this huge deal. even then theres no guarantee his replacement would have been as good.
think the biggest thing for me is the message it sends out about keeping our best players. signing mata and keeping rooney is a signal of we can still compete with the biggest clubs around and as a result players are more likely to come to a club with above than if they werent

agree if im honest, the club has bent over backwards and thats why im not too keen on him. i got brought up with a club that was all powerfull and the club is always bigger than one player. rooney wouldn't have gotten away with it if he were in the 99 squad (or many others) he'd been kicked out of the door. think fergie was going that way in the end and was ready to get rid but then ended up retiring
