First topic message reminder :
Not sure what's going to happen in t his game..
More bothered about watching what Ox can do again..
Its not a forgone conclusion for me.
I do think Moyesball is pretty decent against possession teams..

As an irish "outsider", this is the England team id pick for World Cup:
Hart
Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines
Gerrard, Carrick, Wilshire
Sturridge, Rooney, Lallana
Haven't put huge thought into this, so any glaring omissions, sorry!

Agree barring Wilshere on the RW.
I'd have him ahead of Henderson in CM and then I'd seriously consider Welbeck on one of the wings.
Johnson, Lallana, Oxlade, and genuinely even Downing is playing well and he brings a left foot if required.
And I'd put Mark Noble in the bloody squad but no one ever notices him.

Hopefully Big John cemented his slot as England number two yesterday, back to his brilliantly solid self. Nothing flashy, just solid and reliable is old John

I've only seen him play once this season, and he was caught in no mans land for one goal he let in. I will though bow to your better on judgement on Mr Ruddy.

i think its all well and good saying - but that player is marginally better so should start.
But i just dont buy that anymore- Its all about key partnerships that work at PL level for me.. Even if one is worse as a pair they will be better
We allways look disjointed.. Spain and germany never do because there players play together so often
even if my team did get overrun- its one hell of a counter attacking team and Gerard would have to just stay back and protect the defence

All depends on the transfers this summer.
Something I am both looking forward to and dreading.
Nice getting new players, brings a childish excitement but there is just something about seeing guys who have been there for years playing well and younger players breaking into the team. Makes it feel like your club or something.
I mean if a billionaire takes over and buys you an entire new squad you could just be watching any club in the country, if the team has no links to previous years.
Starting from next season the Europa League winner qualifies for the next years Champions League.

Do people think Roy can get the best out of players like Sturridge & Sterling? I have my doubts.
I doubt he'll let them free roam at the front like Rodgers does.

Problem is, England dont hold possession. Sterling might look brilliant at Liverpool, however, look how many chances he gets. Its wave after wave, International football you get one or two chances against the best & Sterling would miss them, just like Welbeck does. These players wont look anything special in Brazil or replicate EPL performances because we can't afford to be expressive in a tight group and with Roy's limiting tactics.

I agree.
People expecting Sterling & Sturridge to play the way have for us are going to be disappointed.

sterling and sturridge can do great jobs for england. no doubts at all.. Its just about having the balls to play a specific way.
others arguing we will be dissapointed is sadly mute. Because Roy wont allow us to try.
We need identity again.. Play PL rush football. So what if we get 40% possession.
The last game we lost in 90 mins in a competitive game was v Germany- we lost 4-1 or something- lol WE HAD MORE POSSESSION.. The germans cained us on clinic rush counter!!
Its ironic. I cant be bothered with the nonsense that we have to try and play a certain way and international games are slow , blah, blah. No we need to play OUR WAY- we need to try and dictate the play

For a team that don't hold the ball well, counter attacking would be the best option. I think England would have the pace upfront to play it, it's whether Roy would be bold enough.

If we're into the "why not" territory, then why not pick Truro City's skipper for the England squad?
He can play in literally any position - he used to play in central defence, then he got moved to the middle of midfield, before playing up front. Now he's back to defence again. He once played in goal after a shortage of options - two terrific saves and a clean sheet.
So that's a James Milner-esque option already. Add in the fact that he can do a spot of coaching, wears his heart on his sleeve, and that he once won £20,000 on ITV's gameshow the Cube, and you're laughing.
Cons? Well...he's never played above Conference South level...then, these Costa Ricans aren't much anyway.
Jake Ash is superman!

First half of the season he wasn't himself, understandable after the big injury he had last year. Second half of the season he's back to his best (barring the mistake at West Ham, a game in which he was playing very well).

I'd agree counter attack is our best option. We ain't gonna out possess the best in the world at the moment, but we do have some frightening pace out wide and up top and we can absorb pressure well.

I agree with the people that say Liverpool are very much in it for the title. They are the form horse right now in the premier league the team that no one wants to play. Gerrard has settled into his role, Suarez is clearly the best player in the league even when not scoring goals, and the young guns are really on fire. And the other three teams are all so close as well, can't remember a tighter premier league from top to bottom this season. I still think Chelsea is the favorite because of the players they have and how tough their defense is. Man City to me seem to have come off boil in recent weeks. Arsenal miss Ramsey and Walcott but are still in it as well. If Arsenal can turn in good performances in their 3 big games they have shown to be the most clinical in finishing off the lower ranked teams.

still think liverpools away form could cost them, i dont see them grinding out wins when not playing well away like chelsea or city can
think next few games will show whether they are or not, Southampton away, united away and cardiff away. could quite easily be sat here talking about how there top 4 spot is under threat after them
title winning teams should be looking at 7 points from those fixtures, especially considering its a fantastic time to go OT this season. easy three points for everybody this season!

Just seen those stupid pikey's at Selhurst park throwing coins at Rooney. Idiots.
Not sure why they would do it to any player maybe prehaps Suarez, but Rooney of all players, England's best player! Can't imagine many of them will be wanting to throw stuff at him, in July.

I don't know they seem to be peaking at the right time. I am not saying they will beat out everyone and win it. But they are close enough to be considered a real threat. I think they will beat United at OT and get 7 points from those 3 fixtures. Suarez isn't even scoring goals and they are still scoring them as a tea. I still think Jose's little horse is the favorite and City second favorites, but LFC if they keep up this form are close enough to have a chance. I do agree though that they don't play as well on the road.

I think its more the case of if we do, do well at the world cup, it will because Rooney's played a major part in it.

Anyway, England's team should be (if the World Cup was tomorrow)
Milner is very underrated going forward and with both wingers happy tracking back that will be vital to England's chances of success. Rooney just off Sturridge if 4-4-1-1 looks better to you.
Hart
Johnson - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines
Milner - Gerrard - Wilshere - Oxlade-Chamberlain

I don't understand everyone's obsession with England playing pretty football. We always lose when we try. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't care what it looks like on the field, just so long as we (Chelsea and England) have more goals than the other team.
My team would be
Hart
Johnson (wish we could do what the ECB do and steal Coleman from Ireland)
Cahill
Terry
Baines
Lampard (has become solid in that role. Not afraid to tackle faster players either)
Gerrard
(Now that they both play less advanced roles at club level the Lamps/Stevie combo will work now)
Oxlade
Wilshere
Sturridge
Rooney

Each to their own, I'm tired of watching England play negative football and squeak past smaller nations. Then look woefully out of their depth vs the big teams.
