England vs Ireland, Part 2
First topic message reminder :
For continuing discussion of Ireland vs England in Round 3 of the Six Nations
Previous thread; https://www.606v2.com/t51752-england-vs-ireland
Ireland have released various players to the provinces; starting for Ulster against the Scarlets on Friday are Paddy Jackson, Luke Marshall, Darren Cave and Iain Henderson. Leinster have named Jack McGrath, Sean Cronin, Martin Moore, Mike McCarthy, Rhys Ruddock, Jordi Murphy, Eoin Reddan, Ian Madigan and Fergus McFadden in their team to face Newport-Gwent Dragons. Tommy O'Donnell and Felix Jones will feature for Munster.
There's a lot of competition, mainly for the spots on the bench and possible starts later in the tournament. Can Madigan oust Paddy Jackson? Can Jordi Murphy or Rhys Ruddock force their way in ahead of Tommy O'Donnell? Can McFadden or Simon Zebo force their way into the back three? Who will replace the injured Dan Tuohy; Iain Henderson, Mike McCarthy or Donnacha Ryan? The latter is back from injury and likely to play some part for Munster.
Dan Tuohy has been ruled out of the tournament while Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald and Tommy Bowe are still injured and everyone is praying Johnny Sexton doesn't pick up a knock; he's expected to be riding the pine for Racing Metro.
Any English posters want to update us on their squad?

I dont want to assume to much but if Ireland and France had a GS match would it be the first time in 5/6 nations were the bottom two one year next year finished 1st and 2nd

And according to my mathematical understanding of fly's assessment we may well achieve it by playing at 1% capacity in some areas! ....

That's how good we are and how much better we could become Rodders...that 1% offering that still wins us matches.
Afterall, we were still scoring tries for fun sometimes in Kidney's days even as we played a 0% gameplan!

My understanding is that breakfast cake is basically having cake for breakfast, which despite what you might think is in no way at odds with being a functional, responsible adult.

There's generally less sugar and way less salt in cake than in an average breakfast cereal.

It's dangerous though. Cake is a dangerous topic and should be handled carefully if you want to keep your head on your shoulders.

There's also less caffeine in beer than coffee. So there you have it, cake and beer is the corner stone of health

I've been more more indulgent and unhealthy than that :rem:
Blueberry pancakes? With maple syrup? And crispy bacon?
Yeah, not the best in terms of the old sugar/calories etc. But breakfast cake is a funny turn of phrase. It makes me think of a man waking up, wiping the sleep from his eyes and sticking into an entire birthday cake... hmm. Gotta go, making a run to Tescos before tomorrow I think...

Bearing in mind we've already filled one thread nearly two weeks before KO, a record; is this now a thread with the most off-topic content ever?
I think so. And as such I'm going to have a piece of cake to celebrate.

I'm not so sure about that Chjw. I laughed when I returned to this site after a little time away over the Christmas and New Year to be greeted by a guy welcoming me back as (I paraphrase) "The king of going off topic" - and I think he was English and I'm not so sure I've ever chatted to him much. But I'm almost certain he must have frequented quite a few Irish context threads to be able to say that to me!!! I think we often drift away from topic quite often on those things.

Yeah, there are quite a few of us. I've always liked dirt-tracks and roads most people would never go up. Landed me in a few iffy situations mind you - real time! But yep, off the beaten track is my natural persuasion.

There's nothing wrong with going off topic. I have to say it always bring a smile on my face when it happens, especially in a thread as enjoyable to read as this. I may have helped it wander off on occasions with the strategic mention of food.
Still... this has precedence on this forum. I think it may have been on the old 606 but we completely got lost in the woods talking about Celtic immigration patterns across europe in ancient history on one thread. Enormously interesting at the time and the general consensus was how much we all had in commen... unfortunately that one got overrun with trolls desperate to prove instead how different we all were. Sad really.
Anywho... back to the rugby.

I've been on forums where the moderators are incredibly anal about posts going off topic, but I'd much, much rather have a thread that is cheerfully off topic where everyone is being nice to each other than an on-topic thread where people are being horrible and abrasive.

Aye, look, there was always was a bit of needle for me in the England games... lets just say when I was growing up they were the team I loved us to beat. So threads like this are brilliant, really, because they remind you that there's much more you have in common than not so don't get too worked up by the whole thing. It's always better when its friendlier.
I don't always live up to that, so its good to get the odd reminder.

I know this is irrelevant to the baking thread but it is clear that Fat Billy has been at the pies and given his excellent ball carrying in the last two games is the main problem for Ireland. Stop Billy (give him a pie?) and we will win...simples

Like it, adds a bit of variety and banter to the technical stuff. Surprising and encouraging how genial this forum has remained not like the old 606 for sure.

I don't think the real antichrist could handle this match. For England I would face him down with Dylan hartley. Dylan could beat the snot out of him (her?) without breaking a sweat. For Ireland, POC would stare at him with that Ivan Drago look which implies impending doom. Stupid bastaard wouldn't stand a chance against either bloke.

Funny question, Mike Ross has never scored an international try so does that count? It's been 7 years since POC got his last one so maybe him, can't think of any England players that have been knocking around that long.

Yep, similarly Madigan is benching for us, so Jackson will be benching for Ireland, and Boss will probably be doing the same. No great shock, but it's something we can infer from the Leinster selection.
