England vs Ireland, Part 2
First topic message reminder :
For continuing discussion of Ireland vs England in Round 3 of the Six Nations
Previous thread; https://www.606v2.com/t51752-england-vs-ireland
Ireland have released various players to the provinces; starting for Ulster against the Scarlets on Friday are Paddy Jackson, Luke Marshall, Darren Cave and Iain Henderson. Leinster have named Jack McGrath, Sean Cronin, Martin Moore, Mike McCarthy, Rhys Ruddock, Jordi Murphy, Eoin Reddan, Ian Madigan and Fergus McFadden in their team to face Newport-Gwent Dragons. Tommy O'Donnell and Felix Jones will feature for Munster.
There's a lot of competition, mainly for the spots on the bench and possible starts later in the tournament. Can Madigan oust Paddy Jackson? Can Jordi Murphy or Rhys Ruddock force their way in ahead of Tommy O'Donnell? Can McFadden or Simon Zebo force their way into the back three? Who will replace the injured Dan Tuohy; Iain Henderson, Mike McCarthy or Donnacha Ryan? The latter is back from injury and likely to play some part for Munster.
Dan Tuohy has been ruled out of the tournament while Keith Earls, Luke Fitzgerald and Tommy Bowe are still injured and everyone is praying Johnny Sexton doesn't pick up a knock; he's expected to be riding the pine for Racing Metro.
Any English posters want to update us on their squad?

This championship is surely yours to win or lose
What does the Wales result have to do with anything?
England have been very, very good aside from the first half hour against France. Ireland too but beating an in-form team away from home is a tough ask. Certainly a different kettle of fish to beating two poor teams at home (ok, Wales aren't a poor team, but they have been well below their best so far, including tonight imo)

Re: England vs Ireland, Part 2
I think it mioght put a bit more pressure on us, as we are now the only team to do the slam.
Also there is a small matter of a triple crown up for grabs today.
Our confidence will certainly be high today,(as will Englands) 2 good wins so far, no tries conceded.
Even if we do lose, then 4 teams will have 4 points, so the championship will be wiide open.
An Irish win then, would like to think we would beat Italy at home, then onto Paris for the big one.
BUT one game at a time. Lets focus on England.
I think Ireland will leave Twickenham breathing a sigh of relief, after winning a close hard fought match.

Wales beating France means Ireland are the only team able to win a Grandslam. I think that would add a little excitement to the occasion if I were an Irish player.
England havent been very very good at all, they lost to the French when in the lead and beat probably the worst Scottish effort since Matt Williams was Scot Coach.
Today is a massive test for England. Ireland are a very good team with experience, first choice players and they are playing an England team with some key injuries, and not many caps as a collective.

I agree, an Wales showed just how average this French team is as well. I think today's game and the Wales one will show where we are.

Heroically I am making my way to London from deepest darkest Dumfriesshire having contracted the NZ bug... But as with the great BOD I have shrugged it off and am looking forward to my first taste of HQ on 6N day... Here we go lads! Enjoy all who are going to the match and Éire Abú!

Afternoon Cari, you must be happy about last nights excellent win over France
Nervous as hell here, really want Ireland to beat England but I just don't think that we ill win at HQ. Too close between the teams and home ground advantage will be the deciding factor I feel.

Very nervous! I'm now at the point where I think England will do very well to win against a strong Irish side determined to make sure POC and BOD win their last 6Ns encounter against an injury ravaged England. Not impossible, but...

Re: England vs Ireland, Part 2
All right Nachos! I am indeed. We badly needed to beat France and the fact it was a big win is a bonus. However, it does mean that England should do us a favour, but then that means Ireland would have to lose...I don't really want Ireland to lose this...
Can I just mention an absent friend? Tommy Bowe is 30 today and it's a shame he's injured. Hopefully, his pals will do him proud on his birthday

It was a confidence boosting win for Wales Cari, a nice 6-3 win for England would do for you
Tommy is a big miss but the other lads have stood up to be counted.
I am just interested in what tactics JS deploys, I have a feeling that they may target Nowell on the wing with big kicks.

Well, two weeks ago everyone was saying that the Irish-Welsh game was too tough to call and I think we all expected a close score...so you never know...!

Encouraging the English fans to make Twickenham a fortress...not unlike the Welsh campaign to get their fans to "make some noise for the boys" by singing Calon Lan.
