Each week on our boxing podcast we will be casting an eye back to a classic fight and giving our scorecards and opinions.

This week we'll be looking back at Oscar Dela Hoya vs Shane Mosley 1. Please post your thoughts and scorecards on this fight here.

115-113 from memory (possibly 116-112). Close but clear win for Mosley who outfought De la Hoya in the final round. Everytime Mosley switched southpaw Oscar shut down and couldn't deal with it.

116-112 to Mosley, for me. Gave him rounds 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. All the rest to Oscar. Could see it being a bit closer, but can't make a case for De la Hoya to win it, or even a draw.

Great fight. What I like about is that Mosley showed the world something new to his game in it which he hadn't done before, and to be honest he never really did again. He switched from being a seek and destroy fighter to being the matador here. He let Oscar carry the fight and get his front foot forward and controlled him with the jab, counters and movement rather than trying to walk him down and tear his body to shreds. Take a look at the way he ran through guys like Ceballos at Lightweight in comparison, or the way he kept looking for the single big shot to get Cotto out of there years later.

From an all-round point of view it was the best Mosley we ever saw even if it wasn't his most spectacular or dominant performance (although you'd expect that against a still very, very good Oscar).

Ill repost what I wrote on Chris's thread, great fight but even Oscars dad couldn't make a case for him , very clear victory for Mosley.

Revisited the De La Hoya v Mosley first encounter on Boxnation classic fights , few weeks back. Originally on first viewing all those years back thought it was a nip and tuck affair , surprised how much Shane controlled the 2nd half of the fight, as my scorecard illustrates.

De La Hoya Mosley

Agree with the general sentiments of the rest, a close but clear win for Mosley for me.. Its a shame really because as good a career as he has had, I still feel he didn't truly reach his potential.
