Carbon Copies
Recently their has been fair amount of comparison between Anthony Joshua and Frank Bruno. Both having Muscles in places most boxers don't have places, both with similar styles ect ect......
How many other boxers are exceptionally close in the style and way they fight (not the way they look), the one that has stood our for me is Joshua Clottey and Arthur Abraham, both with the high guard and open to looping hooks, trying to walk the opponent down before mauling them.
Over to you guy with the far broader spectrum of knowledge.

Frazier Tyson is a good shout, both with exceptional upper body movement for big guys. Although quality wise he is miles away would you consider Haye to have a similar style of Fraizer?

Re: Carbon Copies
Watching Provodnikov against Alvarado, I thought he mimicked Chavez (the great old one, not the lumbering young one) a lot with his style. Obviously not as good, but very similar in how he moved going forward and set up his attacks.
Pascal has always used the same style as Roy Jones (definitely not as good in this case!) so no surprise that he's recruited Roy as his trainer now.

Can't see a similarity between Frazier and Haye. Frazier was the quintessential pressure fighter; Haye is a low output pot-shotter.

Jose Torres and Floyd Patterson (due to the fact they were both coached by D' Amato).
The majority of Ingle fighters based their styles on Herol Graham and young Kid Galahad is the closest I've seen to him.
Miguel Cotto began to resemble Evander Holyfield under Manny Steward.
Derry Mathews reminds me of Erik Morales (different levels of ability of course).

Windy was always fond of comparing Vitali to Jess Willard, which you can see when you watch them.

I think Degale reminds me a lot of Micheal Nunn.
His switch hitting is as good as Nunn's imo. Even tho Degale gets a lot of stick here, when he is on top of his game he does look very good.

This is a great shout.
Funny thing is years back when I watched Harrison fight I remember saying to myself that he really reminds me of someone but I could not put my finger on it. Then I re-watched Starling v Breland fight and thought ''Starling looks a lot like Harrison'' then it clicked lol.

His problem is that tends to be for only 30 seconds a round.....

Many great fighters have mimicked predecessors, Ali based his style around Ray Robinson he was inspired by him even to the trunks he wore. James Toney was heavily influenced by Walcott, Moore, and Charles.Tyson said he tried to fight like guys such as Armstrong, Duran, and Dempsey.

I'd say Toney is more like George Benton than anyone Rodney. I'd say that old man Foreman resembled Moore a fair bit utilising the cross arm defence. Philly shell, cross arm and the shoulder roll are basically just variations of the same thing but a different aesthetic.

Re: Carbon Copies
Would it be fair to say that part of the reason for Bruno's ripped physique was because he actively worked on it, i.e. lifted tooo many weights?
Sports science has moved on significantly since then and I'm sure Bruno is used as a classic example on places other than this forum about the negative effects of bulking up for sports that don't necessarily require it.
Joshua was a bit of a beefcake in the amateurs anyway so I suspect that his physique may be a bit more natural than Frank's. This could possibly result in his rig having less of an impact on his stamina. Ultimately we won't find out with AJ until he's been made to work for at least 5 or 6 rounds.
Can people suggest any other boxers who suffered similar stamina problems due to trying to be a body beautiful? Kell Brook was previously a little bit guilty of this up until the first Jones fight.

Re: Carbon Copies
Wlad? People claiming he was gassed as the reason he lost to Brewster...except Wlad who claimed he'd been poisoned. May also explain why he's never EVER fought at such a high tempo since.CallMeBenji wrote:Would it be fair to say that part of the reason for Bruno's ripped physique was because he actively worked on it, i.e. lifted tooo many weights?

The obvious one would be David Haye... according to his detractors, he loves himself so much he gasses after three rounds because he's spent so long sculpting his physique

Re: Carbon Copies
People might laugh at this but watching Chisora the other night it seemed like he was trying to do a bit of a Tyson impression. He came in low and was constantly moving his head, just like Tyson used to do. Of course, he only had about 20% of the punch variety and about 20% of the power that Tyson had, but he very much struck me as a lesser imitation of Iron Mike.
