Because he's half French.

I wouldn't expect him to ref France any more than I would Ireland.

But being able to speak the lingo appears to gloss over lineage.

No he isnt he is Irish. Born in Ireland, lived all his life in Ireland and represented Ireland in rugby. Doesnt get much more Irish that that. I assume given his dad is French that he has family in France but equally its possible Wayne Barnes or Nigel Owens have family in England, Scotland, Wales or even possibly Ireland. Who cares.

Kaplan may have relatives in Zimbabwe, Namibia or Israel etc. Steve walsh in OZ and NZ, Dickinson in NZ or England etc. blah blah blah blah.

Irish mum, French dad = 50:50. Irrespective of which he chose to represent in his playing days. It's not about distant relatives - it's his immediate family/parentage. Maybe, having grown up in Ireland, there's a good argument his allegiances are even stronger there, but when someone is half 'X' nationality, they should not be officiating 'X' games.

Have to many bad memories of him reffing Eng-Fra and putting in shocking performances, he's is my most disliked ref I can think of.

That's a pretty ancient idea at this point.  The Americans have a love-affair going with the English - but...well, Pierce losing his job might be the beginning of a backlash from the mid-western natives.  Afterall, they are getting to feel that nothing is sacred no more.

Batman was English
Spiderman was English
Most 'Americans' in movies now are British doing the accents.

It's gotta stop!!  It'll be the Boston Tea Party all over again.

Well actually batman was welsh....

Worse still! A Welsh man who talks English but only when not on Camera, when it's all American then! Americans hate that kind of complexity! "Where's Michael Caine???" they plead!!!! And of course, he's the blasted butler!

In terms of Nationality so how do you think the French feel about having British Refs for their games when they play Scotland, England or Wales....

He's gone now. Relax. Wink I'll plot Joubert's downfall from here on in. I'll start by finding an English relative of his.... and onwards from there.

I was laughing at O'Gara over the weekend.  When he forgets he's on camera and when he'd talking animatedly, that rise and fall of tone becomes very pronounced.  He started to sound like an angry Roy.

"Of course I'm hurt by it" (em...not what Ronan said! Just a flashback to Saipan.)

I thought Guns was just alluding to your passport office requirements, mystir. It's where you live that says what you are. But now I'm wondering are you right! Does Guns hate Roy??????????  mad  Answer up, Guns!

Now there's a man that makes the Gatland/BOD drama look like an episode of Simpsons.

Oh that one..

Shame he needed a Zimmeframe though.

Does Ireland not have a NHS or something?

Why are you forcing the old man to walk with no support?

Its definitely Harrington. Worrying to see he has been getting treatment for skin cancer. Dont think its serious though?

Other hybrids (aparently)

Wayne Rooney (you can have him)
Lawrence Dallaglio

His eyes do scare me a bit - but a great clutch golfer. Nerves of steel.. Very faldoesque. Rare for us brit/irish to have such solid sportsmen.

Good luck to him.. Fingers crossed

Padraig ( I played so well I decided to change my stance, my grip, my shoes, my psychological evaluator, my caddie, my sunglasses, my hotel bedrooms, my birdseed feeder, my canary, my comb) Harrington???

Harrington...maybe... just maybe, you shouldn't have changed a damn thing.  It didn't work...none of it.  When you're winning - don't change a blessed thing.

Not remotely close to the warrior BOD.  As Harrington fretted over his woods... BOD was licking more crunched bones and getting back on the field of one of the toughest sports (mentally and physically) in the world.

Steve Collins and Chris Eubank. Two peas in a padded pod.

I disagree.  But I do agree it's been mentally tough on Harrington.  Needlessly so.  He fretted his golfing game away on pernicky nit-picking and, somehow or other, the people around him allowed him to do it.

Gaza or Alex Higgins?

who wins?

Both probably. Gazza had the world and buried it...so too did Higgins. But that's genius............. the centre line between perfection and madness.

ermm i woiuldnt say that at all mate.

he is mentally rock solid- his game has never been the best but he unlike handfulls of english players wiuth the same skill level realised his potential on 3 occasionas.

winning 3 majors is huge!!!

Huge.

Rors(our fav Irihsman/ Ukman) has more ability in his little finger than Harrington(minor overreaction off course) and he will probably reach a height of 5-10 majors and go down as one of the best ever. But he will never ever be as mentally strong as harrignton was in his peak..

Harrington realised his ability, and he made the most of it at the peak of his career. Fair play to him. He was never ever going to be a Mickelson that was going to keep being a mojor threat for another ten years in countless majors. He still may get one more though- things happen..

In rugby you need to concentrate for 80 minutes max once a week. As a golfer you need to concentrate for 4 hours a day maybe more, four days in a row. You have no team mates to draw strength from (except caddy) and there are more pressure moments. It unquestionably requires more mental strength.

It is literally a walk in the park.

Just read that Chris Robshaw made 23 tackles and 3 turnovers against Ireland. Phenomenal performance.

He was very good alright and has been for some time. Gets through a massive amount of work, real professional and a real team player. What more can you ask for?

Seems exceedingly strange that Robshaw didn't get on the Lions tour. He had been playing far better rugby on a consistent basis than the likes of Lydiate, Croft and even Warburton.
