Nay sir, for I am Anglo-Saxon not Celtic.
Even though I live in a Celtic area, ho-hum.
England's green and pleasant land and those dark satanic mills - how I love them.

Lyrics change!
And did Hodgson's feet in 2012,
Walk upon England's Wembley turf?
And was it by two banks of four,
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the English fans believe?
Shine forth upon the Maracana?
And did the English gain victory,
In July two-thousand and fourteen?
Bring me my defence, of joyful resolve,
Bring me my strikers of desire,
Bring me my skipper, oh doubts unfold,
Fetch me my trophy of victory.
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall Brazil ban the band,
Till we have got Jules Rimet,
In England's green and pleasant land!
And did Hodgson's feet in 2012,
Walk upon England's Wembley turf?
And was it by two banks of four,
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the English fans believe?
Shine forth upon the Maracana?
And did the English gain victory,
In July two-thousand and fourteen?
Bring me my defence, of joyful resolve,
Bring me my strikers of desire,
Bring me my skipper, oh doubts unfold,
Fetch me my trophy of victory.
I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall Brazil ban the band,
Till we have got Jules Rimet,
In England's green and pleasant land!

Duty letting people disrespect the national anthem?! The man I knew is no more, here stands a shadow.
I consider tomorrow's game a bonus. We are unlikely to get owt from Everton, plus my boss supports them and it's the last game West Ham will play whilst I work there. I'm not leaving with that extra satisfaction, fate shan't allow it

Because the BBC, unlike some media outlets, are meant to print the truth and not speculation.

Personally, I would have loved to see Aaron Ramsey & Gareth Bale play alongside Rooney & Gerrard, the UK team would have performed a lot better if that were the case, but it isn't. And I respect that.socal1976 wrote:mystiroakey wrote:ermmmm.

Maybe better for politics..
But from a more general POV i have had certain Discussions with Americans before and they dont seem as harsh on 'glory hunting' fans..
I suppose its because the place is so big- Many people wont be able to feel a local affinity with a sporting club so will just pick any one.
No we call them bandwagon jumpers. It depends on the region and depends on the sport. Plus American sports teams are just businesses that aren't really tied to one location, many teams just up and move to a new city when they get better stadium deal. We have a lot of big rivalries between universities in college sports but you don't really see us have a punch up because someone supports USC or UCLA fotball.
But seriously I do wonder why you guys have 4 national teams for one country, seems counterproductive and a bit medieval to me but of course its your country and you can do as you please. It would be like Spain fielding different regional teams. Like a basque, castillian, or Catalan team. If they did that I doubt any of the three teams would ever win a major trophy.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
One of the biggest obstacles in a GB football team is Scotland and Northern Ireland. They were totally against a unified team for London 2012. Wales didn't want to be in the negotiations but allowed their players to take part. Only England are 100% for it on occasions like the Olympics. Of the 18 man squad there was 13 English and 5 Welsh.
Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Nortern Irish players would have the right to play for ireland or a gb team if this happened or they could go the way of the rugby team and play as a unified team.
if Scotland gained independence i wouldn't write of a united England and wales team.. Like the cricket team in the future.. But when it comes to rugby that well never ever happen..
different sports , different politics, all created unequally, all with separate history, all with separate priorities.

A UK football team would pretty much be the death of international football on this island. I could never warm to that concept, and nor, I suspect, could many Scottish/Welsh/N. Irish fans.

We've been lucky though, Hull been dire defensively & caught on the counter. Yeah, just needed time to adjust to losing Cabaye & other players stepping up & understanding what direction the team needed to go in now.
