Dual code quiz - who am I?
1. New Zealand - Played full back for New Zealand in rugby and also represented them in cricket. Now a cricket and rugby commentator with Sky Sports.
2. South Africa – Since 2001 I have earned 27 rugby union caps for SA. I also represented SA in cricket and football at youth level.
3. Australia – Played rugby league for Australia and Italy and also union for Italy.
4. England – Played league for NZ and union for England then went on to coach Russia in union.
5. Ireland - Played for Ireland in rugby and Northern Ireland, Ireland and Arsenal in football. I was a doctor. Who am I?
-Try and guess all five at once.

Re: Dual code quiz - who am I?
I was just about to answer Gower for 3. 2 I assume is Lambie as I don't think Goosen was capped as early as 2007.
As an additional question: which pair of brothers both represented England against New Zealand in 2013 on the same day but at different sports?

Re: Dual code quiz - who am I?
I cannot find anyone who got their first cap in 2007 and has gone on to make 27 appearances for SA
5) Dr Kevin O'Flanagan (via google). Sorry not heard of him, whichj is a shame as he appears to have been rather impressive.

Re: Dual code quiz - who am I?
thats pretty impressive to be SA cricket, rugby and football at age grade.
Schalk Burger was SA cricket age grade (but I believe not rugby!!!!) and the national BMX champion too.
According to Montegomery, Herschelle Gibbs was the most talented youth player he came across in rugby (and that says something since they went to rival schools). I believe he was a flyhalf although size perhaps dictated his selection of cricket.

Re: Dual code quiz - who am I?
A follow-up question:
Who was the first RL to RU convert (post professionalism) to be capped for each of the following:
Australia
England
France
Ireland
New Zealand
Scotland
Wales (* the answer I'm after is of a player [actually, there were 2 in the same game] who was capped in RL before RU, not someone like Jiffy or Scott Quinnell who was an RU international before code switching to RL and then back to RU)

Rodders you had your weetabix this morning? Was halfway through and was stumped when your mail came through.
Although isn't it Harris for Wales? Tait also played union before joining league. Have no idea on that one either

Harris is a good shout.
Was Tana Umaga capped in RL before playing for the all blacks - his brother Mike played for Halifax or did I dream that?

England - Barry John Mather or John Bentley one is right
France - that kiwi centre bloke I presume you mean Marsh - don't think it's right but will check
Ireland - Brian Carney Yes
New Zealand - Brad Thorn Yes, although obviously played RL for Australia. Only one New Zealand RL to RU convert (and then back to RL and possibly returning to RU in the near future...)
Scotland - Alan Tait Not who I had - Tait was an RU player and iirc a Lion before his RL switch
Wales - Alan Bateman No - someone has mentioned Iestyn Harris, who is one of the two I had as the right answers - the other made his Wales RU debut in the same match

Rodders
Assuming WIkipedia is right, there was one Aussie before Sailor and Tuqiri
Barry John Mather is right.
Can't find anything to show Marsh played RL, so that's wrong
I'll leave you looking for the Scotland one (two possible answers, as there is some dispute as to whether one of the possible answers was actually capped in RL).
You're right about Sullivan.

Mate I answered about an hour ago. Although I too cheated.
You don't know Conrad Jantjies? Surprising.
Very talented player ignored by White and showed his worth under De Villiers.

Ah I see, I do remember Walker... he could play most positions. I thought he was a 10/12 myself. I'm sure he toured the UK, certainly played the home nations anyhow.
Just checked... it was the lions series from where I recall him.

I thought I remembered him with similar memories to you, but on googling found I must have been thinking of a different player. Andrew Walker had 7 caps for Aus in 2000/01 6 in Aus and 1 in SA
Now I have to work out who I was thinking of.

That's one of the possibly correct answers for Scotland - There seems to be some dispute (on Wikipedia) as to whether he was a capped international in RL, but he was definitely the first pro League to Union convert capped for Scotland RU.
Still missing the answer for France - as far as I can see, they have only had one dual code international.

Re: Dual code quiz - who am I?
No 5 Llanelli wing Lewis Jones played for Wales at RU between 1950 to 52 and played for the British Lions in 1950. He was capped for Wales Rugby league in 1953 and Great Britain from 1954.
So he played for both Wales and GB at both Union and League!

Now that's pretty good going - I think Jiffy missed out on similar because he transferred to Widnes before the Lions tour that he was a racing certainty to go on - represented both GB and Wales at League. Scott Quinnell only played RL for Wales, not GB (Scott Gibbs appears to be similar)
