Tonights Action (Spoilers) Empty Tonights Action (Spoilers)

Post by hampo17 Sat 08 Mar 2014, 7:25 pm

Live on Boxnation now, Ryan Farrag and Jason Booth the first fight up. Farrag took the first three rounds easily, Booth upped the pace in the fourth and had the better of it, but Farrag landed a big shot that stopped Booth with 30 seconds of the round left.

Decent fight to start the night.

Booth has lost 8 of his last 10, it was time for him to quit a couple of years ago, it's all getting a bit sad for him losing to guys he would have beaten before Molitor.

I don't even bother trying to stay up nowadays, if I happen to be awake then i'll find a way to watch but there's soon a means to watch it at about 9 in the morning.

It looks like a fairly poor card to me Hampo, it's the main reason I don't bother with boxnation, the domestic fights just aren't worth it.

I find box nation worth £10 for the overseas cards alone, domestic cards are just a small bonus.

Like I said I wouldn't stay up til 4 in the morning to watch anybody other than Mayweather even then I wouldn't pay for the privilege.

It's got it's market but with all the top british talent being on Sky Sports it's not worth a penny to me.

How you rating Satchell so far, Hampo?

To me it looks as if he's just desperately trying to make himself in to a puncher when he clearly isn't. This style will work on the likes of Quaye but I'd prefer to see him try and develop his defence and footwork a little so he can mould himself in to a counter-puncher who lets the opportunities come to him instead. This one-paced style of his is going to hit a brick wall if he gets to fringe world level.

Heffron got out jabbed for the fight, Thain probably won 7 rounds with his jab alone. Heffron also had a point deducted but somehow got the win by 1 round.

Not sure what the capacity of that place is but I reckon it's about a quarter full.

That's pretty poor when you consider the number of local 'names' on that card.

Stalker isn't short of skills but he seems low on power.

He's hit this guy cleanly for 4 rounds and he hasn't really troubled him yet.

Right then, dragged myself back up and only caught the last couple of rounds of Linares-Arakawa, but looks as if it was a complete war if those last two rounds are anything to go by. Anyone else about for this?

Aye, can't see Mijares lasting the distance if this continues. I think his corner will be considering his condition already and we're only five rounds in. Turned his back a couple of times there, which doesn't bode well.

Agree, WHU. He can't miss with those short hooks inside to the head but it's the rib shots that have really had Mijares in bad trouble. Some great uppercuts there in the 9th, though, albeit a couple looked a little on the illegal side. Santa Cruz looking like the Duracell Bunny in there, doesn't seem that getting that massive frame down to 122 is taking too much out of him.

Thought LSC could ge thim out after the 5th round but it wasn't to be, mijares is a tough man

The big one next, i'm favouring Angulo atm, don't think canelo can keep up with his pressure but we will see as canelo is good enough to outbox him

Ah, not far off! Santa Cruz gets it by 120-108, 120-108, 119-109. Lots to applaud in Santa Cruz's performance, but some obvious weaknesses that someone like Frampton could exploit....And someone like Rigondeaux would have an absolute field day with.

Agree again, WHU - it's a risky one for Canelo. On the outside I don't really think Angulo has any advantage aside from his ability to close off space nicely - but he's the more dangerous single puncher of the pair, and Alvarez has always been prone to taking breathers in fights and having lapses in work rate. Angulo will be attacking with intensity so Canelo had better be in tip-top shape.

Hope it lives up to expectations.

It also depends on whether angulo's face can hold together as Canelo can bang and is very accurate so he's gonna have to take a lot to land his own but i guess he's used to that now as he's done it throughout his entire career

Bit more cautious than I expected from Angulo in the first couple - but Alvarez is looking good. Using the jab nicely and picking his shots well. Be interesting to see when Angulo tries to up the tempo and get moving forward as he's letting Alvarez dictate a lot of the exchanges so far.

Clean sweep to Canelo for me after five. Worrying for Angulo, as he's hit him with some good shots and not made a dent, and it seems to be Alvarez who is stronger and more imposing in there when he wants / needs to be (mixing it with some decent movement on the outside). On that basis, it's hard to see what Angulo can do to turn it around - unless Canelo fades down the stretch.

The 6th was closer, but still an Alvarez round for me. But the 7th I'd definitely give to Angulo - and Alvarez seemed to take one of those breathers I was talking about earlier. Angulo still with a long, long way to go before he's back in this fight, though.

When Alvarez went to work in the 9th his work looked a lot cleaner and classier.....But he left it pretty damn late to start working! Angulo has at least clawed his way back to some degree.

Stopped in the 10th, very soft stoppage but Angulo was taking a pasting and just couldn't see the punches coming. Hunter was close to stopping it anyway

Very impressive from canelo and looked very very powerful, and very very classy

Love to see Canelo-Lara, lara was more impressive against trout whereas Canelo was better against Angulo
