Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Dortmund are a fairly comfortable second now and are almost certainly in to the CL quarters. Depends what you regard as elite, for me the word elite is the very very best like Bayern, Real, Barca even Man U, teams who have a history of domestic and European domination. Arsenal are the level below, certainly no disgrace.
socal1976 wrote:Duty281 wrote:socal1976 wrote:It is kind of weird CS that Duty considers us an elite club and the quality of players (that Wenger has signed) and our CL football as the main reasons, but then he considers Wenger a failure. It looks like a logical inconsistency to me. And I can't name 10 clubs in Europe bigger or better than we are.
Bigger - Manchester United, Liverpool, AC Milan
Better - Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, Dortmund/Napoli.
There we go. The first three have better history and are a "bigger" club in that respect. The other seven are just...better.
Is that why Napoli got knocked of our CL group. Dortmund is nowhere near the team they were earlier in the year when we played in CL in terms of injuries and we split with them. If you really want to measure we have to look at criteria. If it is "better" I disagree certainly with regards to Dortmund and Napoli as of right now or throughout the season. Dortmund is behind Schalke and Leverkusen and neither one of those teams are all that mighty this year. Here are the teams if I am ranking the "better" aspect
1. Bayern
2. real
3. Barca
4. Chelsea
5. PSG
6. Juventus
7. Man City
8. Atleti
9. Arsenal
So Arsenal are in the top 10, even if you would rate Dortmund who is on the skids right now as being better, which I don't. Liverpool would have a fair shout right now at coming in ahead of us. That would still put us in the top 10 in terms of quality.

Vidic shouldn't have given him the opportunity to go down, a bad dive but an experienced defender should know better than to give him the chance.
Ahh Stevie, still no hat trick at OT for 77 years.

Unlucky Gerrard.

Why? If you give a striker an excuses to go down in this day and age they are going to go down, a defender with his experience must know this and it was a stupid tackle to try and make, what did he think was going to happen?

I dont like it as justification either. Its fine to say to the defender, criticise the challenge etc, but it doesnt mean a forward can dive

Yeah that one was a penalty
I think today is yet another defeat which is tough on Moyes. Ok, there's been nothing going forward yet again but if your defenders are giving away penalties left, right and centre then what can you do?

I would love it if Liverpool win the league. Chance for me to bring up the people who said Brendan Rodgers was a rubbish manager

We may not but this will be the closest race for some years and with Chelsea and City to come to Anfield it could be very close.

Liverpool on another level. Should have had 5 pens today.
0-3 seriously flatters moyes.
Rooney needs to get out of this club.. Provided some decent balls for rvp just to feick up. Junazi as always also looks class and should get out as well.

Definitely. It'll be close but City's games in hand will swing it. I reckon you'll finish 2nd ahead of Chelsea and muller them at Anfield for good measure.

Funny game really. Liverpool in control but never really opened up United all that frequently prior to the red.
United poor, had their moments but never really made an opening. RVP awful, Mata marginalised, Carrick and Fellaini anonymous. Moyes needs to have a real rethink

The problem is that he set the team out very open. I'm unconvinced you can play Mata in a midfield four and Januzaj also doesn't really add anything defensively. Against a team like Liverpool I would say you can only really play Mata behind the front man or as part of a front 3.
He also bottled taking RVP off who was very poor and waited too long to make any subs at all. Probably his worst match so far in the job.
