Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Dortmund are a fairly comfortable second now and are almost certainly in to the CL quarters. Depends what you regard as elite, for me the word elite is the very very best like Bayern, Real, Barca even Man U, teams who have a history of domestic and European domination. Arsenal are the level below, certainly no disgrace.
socal1976 wrote:Duty281 wrote:socal1976 wrote:It is kind of weird CS that Duty considers us an elite club and the quality of players (that Wenger has signed) and our CL football as the main reasons, but then he considers Wenger a failure. It looks like a logical inconsistency to me. And I can't name 10 clubs in Europe bigger or better than we are.
Bigger - Manchester United, Liverpool, AC Milan
Better - Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, Dortmund/Napoli.
There we go. The first three have better history and are a "bigger" club in that respect. The other seven are just...better.
Is that why Napoli got knocked of our CL group. Dortmund is nowhere near the team they were earlier in the year when we played in CL in terms of injuries and we split with them. If you really want to measure we have to look at criteria. If it is "better" I disagree certainly with regards to Dortmund and Napoli as of right now or throughout the season. Dortmund is behind Schalke and Leverkusen and neither one of those teams are all that mighty this year. Here are the teams if I am ranking the "better" aspect
1. Bayern
2. real
3. Barca
4. Chelsea
5. PSG
6. Juventus
7. Man City
8. Atleti
9. Arsenal
So Arsenal are in the top 10, even if you would rate Dortmund who is on the skids right now as being better, which I don't. Liverpool would have a fair shout right now at coming in ahead of us. That would still put us in the top 10 in terms of quality.

I doubt that KR, unfortunately since the 5-0 defeat at anfield I knew we weren't a team that could yet win the league. And today this result clearly demonstrated it. Wenger needs to figure out what is going on and get the team back to playing good football and win the FA cup. That is the only thing that can salvage the season. I hope this sends a signal to him and the board that we need to add real quality in the summer.

Crimey wrote:Suarez already has more goals than RVP finished with last year and is only one assist behind how many Mata had last year. Right now, I'd say he is up there with Messi and Ronaldo. It will be interesting to see how Chelsea and City approach the Liverpool games, attack and they could be done on the counter, sit back and Liverpool can break them down. Expect Chelsea will go for the early goal and then try and sit back for the rest of the game, City will probably just out-score Liverpool, on paper the Liverpool-City game should be a stormer.

Ha, Ha. Great answer by OGS, when asked about Liverpool.
In fairness fair play. Has his own problems with Cardiff.
Bit of a stupid question to ask.

That was a good performance. It's one of the few times this season I can say the team looked totally in control, although it helped that West Ham were only slightly better than Arsenal today.

I reckon you'll smoke Stoke but they aint no joke and they rough up folk, the pressure they soak, your attacks will be broke but as long as you don't choke and play fizzy like coke then you'll win ugly via a 5 yard toe poke.

The only thing Stoke will be is dire.
That Peter Crouch looks like a boy from the choir.
And Stephen Ireland, that lad is a liar.
The Villa boys are gonna be on fire.

Not sure I've ever seen a better goal live than that Tettey strike, was sat right behind it. Oh my goodness me.
Brilliant today, we pressed them high, we attacked with creativity and we took the game to them. Just wish we would do this week in week out against the teams around us, then we'd be much higher because we're better than them (for me)
Oh and Jonny Howson is brilliant. If he hasn't got injured he'd be on that plane already

From what I saw today we've got nothing to be worried about, Sunderland were absolute dogshite and they've got a horrific run of fixtures now.
I reckon 4 more points will be enough for safety for us. WBA home win and a point at Swansea next week. We'll lose to Fulham as per usual

Not just quality but a plan b. Most top four teams wouldn't concede more than four in the situation Arsenal found themselves in today. The players need to learn how to shut up shop like Chelsea or City would.
