This Is Belfast - Press Announcement
On Friday the 4th of April Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton faces his toughest test to date as he takes on the WBC number 1 ranked Super Bantamweight Hugo ‘El Increible’ Cazares, of Los Mochis, Mexico. This WBC Final Eliminator for the mandatory spot takes place at the famous Odyssey Arena in Frampton’s home city of Belfast and with the event all but sold out it looks like April 4th will be another electric evening of World class boxing promoted by Cyclone Promotions.
‘This Is Belfast’ will feature an action-packed undercard including Marco McCullough, Jamie Conlan, Eamonn O’Kane and Stephen Ormond all involved in title fights and the home debut of Cyclone Promotions’ new middleweight prospect Conrad Cummings.
Belfast’s popular Marco McCullough will be facing the toughest opponent of his career so far when he takes on Belarus’ Andrei Isaeu, 25(7) – 4, for the vacant WBO European Featherweight title. The tough Belarussian is a former IBF Intercontinental champion and European title challenger and will be Marco’s first test at continental level. If the talented young Belfast stylist can win this vacant title he will be elevated into the top 15 of the WBO rankings and will find himself in prime position after only ten fights in his fledgling career.
Jamie ‘The Mexican’ Conlan will be handed the first title fight of his career on the undercard of ‘This Is Belfast’, with his vacant title shot to be announced shortly. The undefeated Belfast box-fighter, 10(6) – 0, is looking to build on his last impressive knockout performance on a Frampton undercard in October with another impressive victory. 2014 is looking like being a big year for the hard punching Belfast prospect and Conlan will be determined to start it off with a bang by collecting his first ever professional title.
Dublin’s Stephen Ormond makes the third defence of his WBO European lightweight title against Spain’s durable former European title challenger Karim El Ouazghari on the ‘This Is Belfast’ title packed undercard. Ormond, 16(7) – 1, is ranked number 8 in the World by the WBO and is coming off the biggest win of his career that saw him he convincingly defeat former Commonwealth Champion Derry Matthews in latter’s hometown of Liverpool. In what promises to be a cracking encounter ‘The Rock’ cannot be complacent as the man he faces, Karim ‘El Diablo’ El Ouazghari, is a former Spanish Champion who pushed former World title challenger John Murray in a valiant 2011 European title challenge. A big win for Ormond will go a long way to further his ascent of the World rankings.
Eamonn ‘King Kane’ O’Kane will be back in action on the ‘This Is Belfast’ undercard when he fights for a soon to be announced International Middleweight title. The Dungiven man, 11(3) – 1, will be looking to show his career is well and truly back on track with another impressive performance on April 4th following on from his victory over Kerry Hope in his last outing.
Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan believes ‘This Is Belfast’ will set a new standard for professional boxing shows in Belfast. “April the 4th is going be a superb night for Belfast Boxing. ‘This is Belfast’ will showcase the best of Belfast’s boxing talent with four title fights on the undercard. Marco McCullough, Jamie Conlan and Eamonn O’Kane will all be involved in title fights and Stephen Ormond defends his WBO European lightweight title for a third time. ‘This Is Belfast’ will also feature the home debut of Cyclone Promotions new prospect Conrad Cummings. I am so excited for Conrad as I believe he will become an instant crowd favourite with his all-action style, pressuring his opponents and letting his shots go. He is a talented and tough kid who I believe can go very far in this sport.”
Middleweight sensation Cummings will make his home debut in front of the Odyssey Arena crowd on the action packed undercard and will be looking to improve to 2 – 0 with another convincing victory after his impressive professional debut against Andrejs Loginovs last month in London’s famous York Hall. The popular Coalisland prospect has all the tools necessary to make an impact on the British middleweight scene and with his all-action style Conrad will be looking to quickly endear himself to the Belfast faithful.
Also on the undercard of ‘This Is Belfast’ is the return of another rising Belfast prospect Ryan Burnett, 4(3) – 0, who makes his second appearance at the famous Odyssey Arena. Burnett will be looking to continue his rapid ascent of the Bantamweight rankings and follow on from his last impressive display in Belfast, a two round demolition of Nicaragua’s Reynaldo Cajina. All the big fight action on Friday the 4th of April will be shown live and exclusively in the UK and Ireland on BoxNation, Sky Channel 437 and Virgin Channel 546. Re: This Is Belfast - Press Announcement
With all the fighters at different weights coming through from Liverpool at the moment I wonder if they can build up to a home amd away clash between the Belfast and Liverpool camps. What a couple of nights boxing we could have then.
