Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Not long to go now.
This 15 hour boxerthon is almost at an end. Will it end with Hopkins writing his name in the history books?
Fight comments and post fight comments here.
Still think Pascal by UD, but it ain't going to be easy or pretty.

Tough round to score, harder punches by Pascal, good uppercut. I'm going to give it to Pascal.
Hopkins is trying to hold a lot more and tie up Pascal on the inside.

Hopkin's round, but he is holding a lot disrupting Pascal. Ref should deduct a point if any more of that.

Round 7
Dirty boxing by Hopkins, but has done enough to win this round, beating Pascal to the punch.

I am seriously impressed by the old man. Thought he took the first fight and he's on his way to taking this one surely. Pascal touched down in the 8th for his first ever knockdown and it was counted... Hope that doesn't cost Hoppo.

He should of really pressed him in the last round but I don't think he had gas tank. Reminds me of Bruno with with amount of muscle on him and maybe its not done his stamina any good.
Anyway fair result and well done to Hopkins. love or hate him, he deserved it.

At least he is fighting live fighters at the top of their game unlike Arum's cash cow. Well done Bernard!

Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Credit where it's due. An excellent, professional performance by any metric and an astonishing one when one considers Hopkins' age and the fact that he had to go onto enemy territory. His style is a by-product of his advancing years, so we have to forgive him that, although in any case, I thought that this was one of Bernard's more positive efforts.
At the moment, I don't see a light-heavyweight out there who definitely has the beating of the old man. That may be a sign that the 175 lb division still isn't as strong as I would like it to be, but it undoubtedly reflects enormous credit on Hopkins, who is single-handedly rewriting the manual on what we can expect from boxers in their 40s. I'm aware that Archie Moore was older when he held the belt at 175, but he wasn't anything like as active a fighter as Hopkins.

Think the fight changed in th 6th round, thumb in the eye from Hopkins some headbutting and lost of holding.
Ref did a poor job. Is there a good British referee

Pascal must feel a a fool that a 46 year old not only beat him but is fitter than him and had a better work rate than him.

Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
I had Hopkins winning by 3 rounds. He totally outworked and outclassed Pascal. Pascal looked very sloppy at times throwing alot of wild shots and at times even stumbling over his own feet. Even at 46 Hopkins can fight at the top of his game and I think he's still got enough in him to hold the title for a few years too come. He looks a total different class to the other light-heavyweights.
Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Chuffed for Popkins! Joe Calzaghe must be kicking himself that he retired. And Popkins must rank higher than him in the all-time stakes. Many people said that he was merely a spoiler and a negative fighter, well that was complete cr%p.One in the eye for the "know-alls".

Hopkins plans to fight on till he is 50. I don't think many fighters out there than want to face him.

Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Dawsons looked poor against Adrian Diaconu. I think B-Hop will beat Dawson and beat him comfortably. Can't really predict on the Bute fight as Bute so far hasn't faced the level of opposition Hopkins has.
Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Excellent performance by Hopkins, had him winning by a good 4 rounds. Pascal looked to have gassed to me in the middle rounds, was wanting to clinch too much. Hopkins did most of the clean punching and worked the jab well, was unlucky not to have the kd scored although I though Ian John Lewis did a good job reffing a tricky fight. Loved it when pascal was slow to come off his stool and Hopkins started doing press ups in the middle of the ring, great showmanship. A well deserved victory for a modern legend. Even at 46 I'd back him against Dawson and Bute, two overrated fighters IMO.

I would probably go as far too say Hopkins could even unify the division. Pascal was the top dog in the division and Hopkins gave him a boxing lesson.

What a performance. Dominated from bell to bell, had it far wider than the judges, with Pascal only winning the 4th clearly, think I had it 7 apart. Should have had at least one more knockdown too. Press ups between rounds showed how confident he was.

You must have been watching a different fight from me, because I had Pascal up by the half way point.
I had Hopkins by 2 round seeing it again, same as the first fight.
But when Hopkins won his rounds he dominating them.
Press up during the rounds, was gamesmanship, to mess with Pascal's mind.

Maybe you should get a love of boxing?
Hopkins boxed a good fight last night, he was more open, aggressive, threw more punches and showed more flair.
Are you sure you watched the fight last night?

He was playing with him and far more effective all the way through, definitely saw a different fight to you. But then that's the way scoring goes.

I saw the fight this afternoon. He doesn't do much for me unfortunately. Great boxer but imo boring as I have negative spoiling. Given that he didn;t do much of that last night.

Don't you think more hurtful punches count for more? effective aggression?
If Hopkins land ten jab but Pascal land a big left hook, the round is going to Pascal in my book.

Hopkins landed more of the bigger shots too IMO. Pascal's aggression wasn't really effective most of the time, Hopkins was playing matador and it's why he lost his balance so often.

Yes in the rounds he won.
Pascal agrression is effectice if he backing Hopkins up agaisnt the ropes and he is landing his shot as he did a few times in the early round.

I don't score based on the direction they are travelling, Hopkins initiated more of the attacks too.

Re: Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
Can only remember Pascal connecting with one really big shot and that was in the second I believe other than that all the effective work was done by Hopkins who showed great ring generalship, a better defence, cleaner punching and more effective aggression. In sure he dominated in each and every way.
