Hopkins vs Pascal, The Fight: History in the Making!!!!!
First topic message reminder :
Not long to go now.
This 15 hour boxerthon is almost at an end. Will it end with Hopkins writing his name in the history books?
Fight comments and post fight comments here.
Still think Pascal by UD, but it ain't going to be easy or pretty.

You got a really bad memory then because that fight was only last night. Were you very drowsy when you watched it?

Surprised you gave it to Hopkins by such a wafer-thin margin, D4. I personally had it 116-112 in his favour (he was robbed of a 10-8 round too, let's not forget) and even then, that was with Pascal taking the last round on my card. Hopkins outclassed him, not a close fight by my reckoning.

I well aware of when it was and there was a round in particular that Pascal dominated from the 5th onwards it was all Hopkins there's a case to give him the 12th which was still quite close, had even after 6 but from then on it was all one way. You don't need to be going forward to fight effectively.

Hopkins could have had a point deducted as well, eye gouging, headbutting, excessive holding and not following the ref's orders.

Pascal was holding as much, if not more. Not to mention rabbit punching being his main method of attack.D4thincarnation wrote:88Chris05 wrote:Surprised you gave it to Hopkins by such a wafer-thin margin, D4. I think you will find that it was Pascal doing the holding.

Which was countered by Pascal's own holding as well as the constant blows to the back of the head. A very messy fight in places but when the two of them were engaging, Hopkins was the boss from the mid-rounds onwards. He totally ran away with the bout in the second half of it. I gave Pascal rounds one, two and four, but after that I don't think he secured a round until the twelfth. Hopkins 116-112 for me, as I said I didn't see this as a close fight at all, and I'm just as surprised at how close a couple of the judges had it as I am at your score card, D4.

Hopkins was doing the holding, early on he wasn't so much then he got clocked in the 4 and Nazim told him he has to tie this guy up on the inside and not to fight him.
Pascal did throw a lot of rabbit punches, could have taken a point away for that too, but that was down to Hopkins holding, so he could smother Pascal's punches and take the power off.

You do realise we just differ on the 5 round, surely it not that surprising I called one round differently to you?.

That was the only time he really rocked Hopkins whereas on the flip side Pascal was on shaky legs with far more regularity. Not sure why you bother coming on here just seem to like arguing the smallest of points.

Watch the fight again, you might see something you missed the first time round.

If that's the case then I apologise D4, but I was basing my comments to you on what you wrote earlier in the thread (haven't read all the comments since). You said you had Hopkins two up after ten rounds. You said you were "tempted to give the eleventh to Pascal" (but think you changed your mind to a 10-10 round?) and then gave the last round to Pascal, which I think we all did. In that case, it's not only the fifth round we disagree on, and you must have either originally scored a draw or given it to Hopkins by a single point, depending on how your mind eventually settled for the eleventh. A draw would have been a plain robbery, and even if you did give the eleventh as 10-10, that means you could have only had Hopkins ahead by a point - which would not have done justice to how much better he was than Pascal.

Yeah I wanted to give the 11th to Pascal, maybe just to make it an exciting finish, couldn't really even call in an 10-10 round really. Pascal did come back a bit in that round but not enough to take the round.
Some time the rounds scoring does not tell the whole story of the fight, because Hopkins was dominant, and a few big punches by Pascal won him some rounds.
In the end what matters is Hopkins won, the made history, and we all agree, even the judge agree on that.

Pascal had Hopkins a couple of time but seems to let Hopkins of the hook by not pressuring Hopkins when his legs were shakey.

When he says "Stop boxing and stop with the wabbit punches", you'd better stop boxing and stop with the wabbit punches, my friend!

Or just carry on, he had zero control and some of the scorecards he has been putting in are shambolic.
