Very strong performance from Middlesex, grinding Northants into the ground.

Yes, very fine performance by Middlesex although it does seem that Northants are rapidly becoming the whipping boys of Div 1.

Down in Div 2, the surprise package for me is Worcs. Wrapped up victory inside 3 days against Essex.

Meanwhile, despite some resistance by the Kent middle order, Gloucs set to win that contest tomorrow - possibly by lunchtime.

Northants trying to stave off what looks like inevitable defeat.  Eighth wicket partnership so far scored 39 off 34 overs.  Butler has scored 4 off 107 balls

Ben Stokes with three wickets and an unbeaten 50 thus far on return from injury, will all but secure his test side with this showing you'd think

Rain in Glamorgan's hampering Leicestershire's  good progress

One reliable English tradition is that the one cc match held each season at the very attractive ground at Tunbridge Wells is completely ruined by rain.  And so it proves again this year.

So will Stokes be back for the remaining Sri Lanka ODIs? Or will he be getting more FC cricket under his belt before the test comeback?

Durham putting Middlesex attack to the sword on the first day of their cc match.  299 - 1 after 67 overs with unbeaten centuries from Stoneman and Borthwick.

Yorks also scoring heavily in their second innings against Northants as they tackle first innings deficit of around 100. 155 - 0 at tea.

Yorks building a massive score against Northants - tho with memories of that loss to Middlesex I don't suppose they will venture an overly generous declaration.

Middlesex lost 4 quick wickets in reply to the huge Durham score - looks like their momentum in recent matches has been slowed.

118/1 with 9 overs left. That's my lot. Don't lose either of these two let alone one and a nightwatchman ....

PS spoke to Stewie this morning about Carrot's slow scoring concern. More tonight.

Look forward to Guildford's update!

Meanwhile, on cue Burns hits a couple of boundaries.  In this innings, at least, he is managing a respectable strike rate of around 50.

Burns out on what turned out to be last ball of the day.  picard But at least showing a very welcome bit of form in scoring 79. Ansari 39* at the close. So far he has amassed 5 half centuries in 47 first class innings. Hope he can build considerably on that.

Edit - woops - last few posts should have been on the Surrey/Worcs thread....  Rolling Eyes

Painfully slow progress by Lancs who reached 188 - 6 off 82 overs against Warks.

Sussex struggle to 210 - 9 against Somerset, with Ed Joce making 99*

Brilliant bowling from Alfie this morning by all accounts. 4 in 4 balls, and Tregs took another one in between (Alfie's 4th was the 1st ball of his next over after the hattrick).

Sussex slump from 33-0 to 33-5 in the space of 10 balls 2014 county championship discussion thread - Page 5 3559488474

Maiden champo hundred for Tom Fell at Grace Road today. Not a bad couple of weeks for promising young batsmen in the Midlands, with Fell joining Ben Cox and Wark's Sam Hain in completing maiden tons.

Of course our two have the added bonus of not being Australians...

Great win by Durham, the first of the season. Just after Buttler posted his impressive ton, Kerrigan was out and Durham win by 27 runs.

The 150 9th wkt stand between Mustard and Coughlin being the winning hand.

Horrendous performance by Essex against Hampshire in the match which finished early. Interesting bowling by Essex in the Hants second innings of 440 - 3 off 90 overs.  Essex used 9 bowlers.  Bopara bowled 3 overs but the other eight bowlers each had beteen 8 and 14 overs.  Sharing the pain  Rolling Eyes

Northants look like getting beaten heavily again. Lost two early wickets in reply to Lancs score of 650 - 6 dec.  Another chance for ex Surrey player Spriegel to play long back to the wall innings....
