Just seen the Jarvis incident, and agree with Neville, in that he should have gone down. He was fouled, and the ball had run away.

Shouldn't need to go down, poor refereeing - just encourages diving.

So people moan when Suarez gets a knock and goes down easily. But when Jarvis gets a knock and doesn't go down people moan that he should have went down?

I agree its crazy- but look suraez looks for it and like other players(i dont want to single him out) just dive without any contact.

That was more than a knock. And for what it's worth, Suarez should have had a pen on Sunday, for me.

Ref didn't want to give it as he stayed on his feet, anywhere else on the pitch and it's given advantage and then brought back for the free kick. All credit to Jarvis but refs have to be stronger in their decision making.

FA need to hire better refs, instead of worrying how much there gonna charge for rubbish England shirts.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
This has been a disastrous season for refs on Moyes levels, I can't put my finger on why they have been so bad though? Is it the increased pressure on them from managers, players, fans etc? I mean, Chico Flores should have been given his red card within 2 seconds of bringing down Shuurlle, yet it took Terry and few other players to talk to him before he then branded the second yellow.
Saw it last night as well. Noccerino held back an Arsenal player on the half way line, most definitely a yellow card. Yet the ref stood there for at least 5 seconds, seemingly happy just to give the free kick, only for at least 2/3 Arsenal players to come over and ask him why on earth was that not a yellow. All of a sudden the cards out and finally he gives it. That's just my interpretation on what's going on, may be way off but it seems refs are genuinely scared these days to make even the simplest of calls for fear of getting it wrong.

I think we should be thankful that we have any referees at all. It's a horrible job. Considering the most likely place referees will be found is from football fans, yet amongst football fans referees are constantly vilified, why would anybody want to become one. The argument is that they get to interact with high level football as close as you can possibly be, but I'm not sure that is a good enough compensation considering the level of scrutiny, pressure and abuse they are put under.
I like the idea of referee academies, target young failed footballers or fans of football in other professions and put them through refereeing school essentially. Increase the pay to make the job more attractive but also to justify putting them through more rigorous training and I think the quality of refereeing will rise.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Funnily enough, this was the debate for West Ham fans last night. There was a sense of pride in Jarvis for not just tumbling because he could, the frustration in the fact that it was a missed foul and then the frustration that players have to go down these days to get fouls.
For an example of why, I would point to the foul Liam brought up by Nocerino. Giroud was being held back, it was a foul, but he jumped forward onto the floor. He was being pulled BACK yet fell forward. Not even questioned by anyone because thats what you have to do to get the foul you deserve these days.
Its sad but this is why I don't massively bemoan all diving. The amount of stuff that gets missed makes it to encouraging to go down. Of course its different to when theres no contact and you throw yourself down, Suarez on Sunday an example, but its why falls are so exaggerated.

Suarez on Sunday? Not the one in the box, surely? Bad defending, and should have been a pen.

I don't have a problem if players go down having been fouled when they could stay up.
I do when players actively wait for the foul to come before going down

I suspect certain clubs are fearing the FFP transfer embargo that Barca got and might try to do everything this summer at inflated prices on appeal.

United are fine. Chelsea should scrape through although spending a lot of money on Costa won't help them not entirely sure about City though.
Yeah that's true GSC lots of players get over paid for whilst i like him a good example is Illarramendi at Real Madrid 32m for a future XI starter.

I'll believe Luke Shaw to United, when he's sitting next to Moyes with a pen in hand.
I hear Pardew's been given the 'nod' by Messi's agent last night......
Fellaini £27m, Mata £37m, Shaw £30m, Carvalho £35m = £129m. Will all Moyes signings be near or over £30m

Not this year but if the qualify for Europe next season, they will have not champions league money to fall back on. Which may restrict them this season

The Champions League money accounts to about £40m a season. With the deals they have commercially and the money they make its nowhere near as big a deal.

FFP rules are not based around one off accounting years- they are based over assessment periods of 3 years. so as long as Man u dont slide and get that CL place back all good.
They can also make losses of quite alot of money as long as that money is covered back by the owners..
This is where the PL clubs look to be fine , whereas the spainish teams do not - as they are highly geared by banks and PL clubs are highly geared by owners- owners will just have to start adding capital rather than issuing loans owed back to themselves

United dont need investigating lads- its not about one particular thing- its the fact the last 2 years they have made profits - therefore wont even be looked at. Its about the last 3 years..never a singular year
Its the citehs of this world- posting 50m losses each year that have to worry, and possibly sadly Liverpool after next year when in the CL.
And obviously a lot of spanish clubs

Puncheon has always had something about him, just his attitude has always stunk. Maybe it's improved under Pulis. Although a ticket to Brazil is a step too far I think.
