TV3 get Irish rights for RWC 2015
TV3 it seems have outbid RTE for the Irish broadcast rights for RWC 2015 - I hope this gives RTE the kick up the arze they need to improve their rugby coverage and hopefully consign boring ancient windbags McGurk, Hookie and Popie as far away from a TV studio as it's possible to get. A real kick in the teeth for RTE, with TV3 seemingly using the money they have saved from losing the GAA rights to Sky.
Remains to be seen how TV3 are going to handle the RWC coverage and particularly who is going to front the coverage and who will be the panellists. Lots of possibilities - Quinny, Toland, Franno (God!), Mattie Williams, Frankie (plug my clients) Sheahan etc - for Irish games and any number of non-Irish pundits for games not involving Ireland.
Have to say though have not been wildly impressed with TV3's soccer coverage - and would hope for a lot better for RWC.

Bernard Jackman would be good. He seems to know a lot. My choices would be:
Commentary:
Phillip Matthews (time to take him back off the BBC. He worked for TV3 before.)
Pundits:
Bernard Jackman
Lawrence Dallaglio. Can we borrow him? Token foreigner with Irish mum.
Presenter:
Maybe a comedian. Risteard Cooper?

Not that much of a kick in the teeth. RTE have taken GAA to be the priority over rugby and considering the level of interest and viewing figures, for a national broadcaster it probably is the right decision.
But on the matter of RTE having a limited budget to purchase and show sport, why can't they save money by letting go the legacy high cost windbags that are McGuirk/Pope/Hook. Mind you that will mean that more possibility for Shane "I can't say anything bad about any player I used to play with or am still mates with, oh by the way I also can't let there be a half second silence on the national airwaves so I'll just jump in and continue to babble absolute drivel" Horgan.

Lol's signed up with BT at the minute.
Really looking forward to this RWC.
St James' Park is just a twenty minute bus ride and a two hour pub crawl away!

It shows what kind of state RTE are in where they get outbid by a company that is broke. Ive seen a lot of peope say TV3 may not exist by then.
Also TV3 doesn't have HD.

I wouldn't mind Eric Elwood getting on one of those punditry panels. How about David Wallace? Geordan Murphy and Girvan Dempsey are recently enough retired and appear to be developing in coaching roles

David wallace would be good. Maybe Elwood. Not sure about Murphy and Dempsey. Boring no?

Good point watch the Irish punditry and the BBC matches seems like a solution

Haven't seen much of them. Just trying to think outside the usual box. Murphy seems to be establishing a good rep at Tigers so he would have a good knowledge of players in the AP and should be insightful in analysis. Dempsey seems to have the Leinster kids playing quite an attractive brand of rugby. I'd just prefer if the pundits were close to current coaching standards and aren't all washed up mouthpieces.

Id imagine O'Sullivan will feature a lot if he hasnt found a job by then.
They had the 2007 world cup too. Cant remember if there coverage was any good though.

If you taking Dallaglio from BT please take Matt Dawson as well. Both are awful.GunsGerms wrote:Bernard Jackman would be good. He seems to know a lot. My choices would be:

Wonder are the Apres Match lads tied to RTE or could TV3 sign them up for the world cup?

Think Risteard Cooper would make a good presenter.

If I remember correctly he did the RWC in 11 on ITV.
Pretty sure it was Girve.

I think Matt Cooper has fronted Rugby coverage for them in the past. I don't even like looking at him on the radio.
Retired former captains of Irish mens and Ladies teams as panelist (BOD and Lynne Cantwell)?
Brezzie as an outside bet for presenting?

I'd say there would be a better chance of Duncan McRae or Tana Umaga presenting than Brezzie.

Dunno man. Anyone who wants to watch the RWC and can only access TV3 (not many I'd say) is going to watch the rugby on TV3. However Brezzie would definitely up the viewing figures amongst the ladies. I know my other half would definitely find her long supressed love of rugby if he was was on the box for a month.

Of all the stations to get it TV3 is by far the worse. When was the last time they showed any rugby? The 2007 world cup??

Re: TV3 get Irish rights for RWC 2015
Aparently TV3 plans to show their RWC coverage in HD. Good news.
Hopefully they get some good presenters, commentators and pundits.
