Remember when people thought the former Jon Moxley would struggle to get over when he was given the name Dean Ambrose?

WWE seemed to have taken a step towards 'real names' in recent years whereas in the past people with certain gimmicks would have been given nicknames or gimmicky titles. Do you really think the man we know as Luke Harper would have had the same moniker back in the 80's/90's?

Why do you think this is? What examples do you have of someone having 'real names' and thinking they needed something a bit more gimmick based to get over?

What about Daniel Bryan Danielson? The names are probably changed so the WWE can copyright them. There are obvious exceptions, like Orton and Cena.

I think they just changed D-Bry's name because its really difficult to fit a 5 syllable name into a chant.

I said this at the time with some of these "real names" - it only sounds rubbish if the wrestler is rubbish or presented to be rubbish. Mark Henry's name is of course his real name, but its pretty standard and somewhat dull. Never been an issue.
