He shouldn't be saying things like that IMO. Just making things harder for himself.

Agree with pretty much all of that Ent, although I still believe we need an out and out cdm/box-to-box player, whether that indeed is Vidal or we hang on for Strootman after xmas and sign De Jong for pretty cheap until then.

Re: Man Utd - The Gaalacticos thread
We may well have overpaid on our signings but if you told me three months we were going to buy Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Di Maria and the potential for more i'd have been delighted.
Judging Van Gaal after two games would be foolish and he seems to be identifying issues with the team after every match, he isn't a miracle worker so the transformation will take time and time he will have. He can't be compared to Moyes because the mentality of the team is completely different, 12 months ago we were on a high having dominated the league whereas this year we're coming off a horrendous 12 months.
The signing of Herrera is a clear indication that we recognise centre midfield needs/needed strengthening but one thing we can't overlook or ignore is that we have five or six first team players unavailable. LVG is having to make do playing guys who aren't in his long term plans like Young or short term like Blackett and Keane, in an ideal world they would either be out on loan or sold.

Re: Man Utd - The Gaalacticos thread
From a very outside perspective as an Albion fan, could a diamond formation be the solution? Issue is clearly that your wingers aren't very good, for the level expected at United anyway hence LVG using Wing Backs. So something like;
--------De Gea--------
Rafael----Smalling/Jones---Evans/Rojo----Shaw
--------Carrick-----
-----Di Maria----Herrera------
--------Mata-------
-----RVP-----Rooney-----------
--------De Gea--------
Rafael----Smalling/Jones---Evans/Rojo----Shaw
--------Carrick-----
-----Di Maria----Herrera------
--------Mata-------
-----RVP-----Rooney-----------

Wouldn't be a bad option at all tbh, especially as Shaw and Rafael are both attacking full backs but it may leave us exposed in wide areas. But wouldn't be against it

With Di Maria coming in our wingers are good enough, play Januzaj on the left with Di Maria on the right.

Yup agree, I'd prefer us to play a conventional back 4 but I still feel Van Gaal will stick to his 3-4-1-2.

Re: Man Utd - The Gaalacticos thread
442 or 4411 for united I think.
Go back to basics and really try to compete in the midfield. And give the defenders zones to really work on .. Even palaces defenders can do it under good management... Look at how bad they are without it!!!
Junazi, carrick, herrari and di maria with Rooney and rvp or mata .. With a solid back 4.
The 532 is ending up becoming a 3 at the back only.

Yeh agree Mys, i've said it for the past few days i'd play:
De Gea
Rafael Jones Rojo/Evans Shaw
Herrera Carrick/Vidal or De Jong (depending who we sign)
Di Maria Mata Januzaj
Rooney/RVP
De Gea

Herrera Carrick/Vidal or De Jong (depending who we sign)
Di Maria Mata Januzaj
Rooney/RVP

Question:
If van gaal stops playing 3 at the back and goes to 4 will he admit 3 at the back was a failure?

Re: Man Utd - The Gaalacticos thread
I don't think he'll say its a failure, its merely an option. He changed the formation during the Swansea game didnt he?
From all I hear from the man, I expect it to take some time before everything clicks into gear. I'd expect he'd want his players to be able to play various formations with no fuss and will cull those who cannot adapt to his methods.

Never. But that's LVG.. And nothing wrong with being a stubborn so and so.. As long as you do change your ways even if you dont admit you were wrong.
The best managers are like that. He will just say the personnel has changed so the tactics must to suit the players..

Re: Man Utd - The Gaalacticos thread
It is odd looking at Man United's midfield pairing yesterday and not even having to be arrogant to state West Ham's pairing is better. I was then left happier with our wingers and all of their defenders too. Returnees will make sure that never happens again, but it was lovely at the time

Looking forward to tonights game, especially seeing Janko, Powell in centre midfield, Anderson to see if he's lost any weight and hopefully seeing Perreria and Wilson getting on.

Words fail me. They really do.
Evans is our most experienced defender - what on earth is he doing.
Wayne Rooney earns more in a week than mk dons squad costs. We should thrash them.

Sideways sideways back to the goal keeper.
Repeat until someone lumps a long ball.

Embarassingly bad - ignore the scoreline.
Mk dons a league 1 side with a squad worth less than the change down rooneys sofa are comfortable in every area of the pitch.
Unopposed and unpressed in defense and midfield and getting joy out of our defense.
The players should be ashamed of themselves.

I get the sense a lot of people want to see Van Gaal fail, he's getting a lot of criticism for somebody barely in the job.

That's another topic altogether. I don't favour it myself and would rather 4231.
Bit formations don't stop you working hard, competing physically, pressing with conviction, showing for your team mates or passing the ball with some conviction.

Well that's a penalty.
All came from Powell dicking about in the corner and januzaj being flat footed.

Once you get to a certain stage in refereeing it becomes who you know and not what you know to advance beyond imtermediate regional level.

I don't like it but it will take him time to estavlish it and he clearly thinks he doesn't have the players for it yet either. Could be a while before we ditch it.

Hahaha would you believe it.
Crap passing again and no desire to resolve errors.
Had pareira taken that down and passed it with any conviction instead of going safety first back to Evans yet again that goal would have been avoided.
Ridiculous the attitude we are approaching games with.

embarrassing. legitimate chance of a cup win, without having europe to deal with. formation looks a mess & basic errors. dire. why on earth he's resting some players two weeks into a season, get them playing, get them upto speed with the system.

We are afraid to pass the ball into the middle of the pitch.
Attitude is the main problem here and it needs to be sorted promptly.

Same again, afraid to go into the middle of the pitch then a man out wide loses it and they stroll in.
As far as I'm concerned no body playing tonight aside from de gea should play for this club again- they have shamed themselves and the club.
