Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Superb by Mourinho. When are Liverpool at their most dangerous? The first thirty minutes of games; that is, generally, when they tear teams apart.
Not allowed to do that today, though, even against a very weakened Chelsea side. Liverpool didn't get a clear chance all game, and one costly, costly error gave Chelsea what they needed.
That and frustration, as Liverpool rapidly ran out of ideas and invention.
Back in City's hands now - another title won on goal difference?

Ashley Cole has started eight games for Chelsea since the start of this year and Chelsea have had eight clean sheets in those games.

Poor Gerrard. He has been getting some stick.
Good points.
Showed faith with his beloved supporters when threatening to leave if the club did not think bigger. Regarded as very good by his peers and ex players. Loves LFC. 20% played brilliantly for LFC. 50% average. 30% rank.Scored buckets of pens for LFC. Good captain, passionate. Tries for the fans. Occasional good game for England.
Won a CL and a UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Super UEFA Cups so quite an illustrious career in football.
But what marks out of ten would you give him in regards to being one of Britains best?
Compared to what others have won, he ranks poorly, but as others have said that can depend in the team/s that you have played in.

Crimey wrote:I think it's probably Fernandinho, but I think a lot will depend on what Manchester City end up with at the end of the season, as hindsight will make a huge difference. I think he's made their team much better balanced, he's basically performing about three roles and has made Yaya Toure much better than he was the year before. If Manchester City end up with only the Capitol One Cup though it won't look like he has made much difference as they will have barely improved.
Christian Eriksen has stood out in an awful season for Tottenham amongst some really bad first seasons for their signings, but he's only been good in short bursts and hasn't made much of an impact on their season really.
Gareth Barry has been a really good signing but not sure that as a loan signing that he can really be judged as signing of the season. James McCarthy has done really well but not sure he's had an exceptional season, he's been a key reason why Martinez has been able to evolve Everton's style though, if they had Fellaini still instead I can't see it being as successful. Lukaku has been quite good, but not as good as he was the year before for West Brom and I'm not sure they will be desperate to get him back, particularly if there is a good forward on the market, Hernandez?
Alvaro Negredo looked dead on up until about Christmas, he has struggled in the second half of the season, suffered because of Aguero's injuries as their partnership was fantastic.
Wilfried Bony is another that has had a good season but only really in bursts, not sure he suits Swansea's style either.
This season hasn't been a good one for the new signings, so many have struggled.
Has it been an awful season for Spurs? They've lost probably the third best player in the world who was virtually a one man show last season and look like they will surpass last season's point tally. Clearly the season could have gone better but I'd say it's been acceptable when trying to bed in an entirely new team.

He's had the career of a legend. He'd have graced any Liverpool European or English Champions side. To not win the Premier League would be a blow, but he is and has been a fantastic footballer.

Me personally and i know it sounds crazy but i would play milner and shaw in the centremm id - both can defend and both can get forward, both are strong and fit and technicality gifted- play cole terry cahill johnson at the back. then sterling lallana rooney in behind stirridge
Ok it may be because last night and the drive back from coventry has sent me a bit loopy. but that is my vision.
After the gerrard performance and what we have seen from wilshire and carrick- i dont want them anywhere near the England set up.

Im amazed about some of the abuse Gerrard is getting over the internet. Gerrard is a real legend, and he is the reason people want to see Liverpool win the league, not because of Liverpool, but because Gerrard lifting that trophy will be brilliant, because he is a true English great.
Some of the photos are funny, e.g. The Randy Orton RKO one had me in tears of laughter. But some idiots as usual are going too far.
Blokes a legend, made a mistake which wasn't really his fault.

thats just silly dude- shaw is tagged to being a midfielder in the future by many anyway. He has the attributes, ok maybe he needs to do it at club level first, i admit that

tbh mate- he isnt bad is he,
look i love the whole old dutch philosophy of total football.
utilising players that can do it all- players interchanging.
we need to utilse players that have good technically ability/ lalallana is the first man on my team sheet for that reason, and shaw is so comfortable on the ball, yet also so strong. carrol may be all able to jump and head the ball over the net- the problem is he does that both ends..
terry is probally a better header of the ball (at goal) than carrol.
Defenders come up all the time. That german lad at arsernal is pretty sweet. many teams utilse there best headers in both pen areas.

Well i think the trend from what im gathering on twitter in the last few weeks, is people are rooting for Liverpool to win soley because people love Gerrard and want to see him lift that trophy. I for one, want Liverpool to win anyway, because i don't like Citeh with there lack of English players and there abuse of money. Hate how boring Chelsea play. Liverpool play football the right way, built there team with English players and have a cracking young manager.

Can't really blame the "old legs" anyone can slip over on a football pitch, i've seen all ages do it. Slipping over is one of those things, can happen to any player at any time, cruel luck i would say rather than a player mistake.

yep could potentially be a top manager, doing a good job at the right time.
But he has been seriously helped by one player.

I cant pick ramsey as he hasn't played enough- but if he did- 100%
Lallana over silva just for me(but i am english biased )
ward has been completely overlooked by everyone- Yes probally not up to colemans level- but this lad has been a gem for palace.
Toure was the difference against palace today- and has been in many games during the season.
I am seriosuly debating putting toure slightly above suraez as player of the season

The thing with Ramsey is that he was so good in the matches he was in, I find it difficult to overlook him in favour of players who failed to hit the heights he did even if they played more matches.
I think Lallana is in the team due to being English. Don't get me wrong, he's a classy player but not in Silva's level.
The official teams do generally favour English players but thats understandable.
Picking a goalkeeper is hard as no keeper has clearly stood out over the rest and there have been several that have impressed. Cech has been solid as usual and has the best all round game though.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Some criticism today over Mourinho tactics v Liverpool. Not sure what people wanted - for Chelsea to play an open match and be torn apart in the first 20 minutes?
OK, sometimes the way a side plays is not pretty or attractive and the game would be a poor spectacle if all teams played like this all the time.
But there's plenty of ways of winning a football match - long ball, short passing, slow-slow-quick, soaking up the pressure, all-out attack. Managers get enough stick when their sides lose, so it does seem somewhat harsh to lay into them after a victory.
