Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Superb by Mourinho. When are Liverpool at their most dangerous? The first thirty minutes of games; that is, generally, when they tear teams apart.
Not allowed to do that today, though, even against a very weakened Chelsea side. Liverpool didn't get a clear chance all game, and one costly, costly error gave Chelsea what they needed.
That and frustration, as Liverpool rapidly ran out of ideas and invention.
Back in City's hands now - another title won on goal difference?

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
If any of the Spurs players that arrived last season need to go Steve, Soldado is at the head of the list. He just hasn't cut it in the Premier League, and at 28 how difficult will it be for him to change his style?
Nacer Chadli could certainly develop in to a good player with the right manager, and at only 24 has his best years ahead of him. Christian Eriksen has been a good signing, I was disappointed Liverpool didn't get him at the time and I believe he'll only improve next season. Vlad Chiriches another one who has his best years ahead of him and needs a manager who'll teach him, not Tim Sherwood who is an idiot.
Etienne Capoue chances are he'll go to Napoli in the summer for around £8m, Erik Lamela only 22 and inexperienced. Give him another season and see what he has to offer, no point shipping a young player like that out after one season.
Spurs problem was two things, last season they relied so heavily on Gareth Bale that it meant this season was always going to be difficult, he pulled them out of so many holes and that was irreplaceable really. Secondly the amount of players they signed and immediately tried to blood in the first team, was stupidity on AVBs part, and also the boards who allowed such a large number of signings.

Most of those players were signed by Baldini weren't they?

Yeah, Spurs are a club that want a coach and definitely not a manager.
Been that way for a decade now.

Depends what reports you read, AVB said he didn't want a number of the signings but the board and Baldini signed them anyway.

Agree that Soldado has been usless Hampo, I was just talking generally speaking what was the best move for Tottenham to make when the new manager take the hot seat. I think the guys who mentioned all need a decent run of games, and a little time to adjust to the English game.
De Boer has been great for the youth at Ajax, but a blotch on his CV.. The 5-1 cup final defeat to PEC Zwolle, the Dutch equivalent to that team that always somehow manages to avoid relegation.

There is being beaten 2-1 & 1-0, and being beaten 5-1 and totally dominated.

3 Million, is he really worth that? I was cautious when we nearly got him for 1.2 million. In fact it was the Palace fans telling me he isn't even worth 500 grand!

I have heard nothing- but as above nick allways knows more about palace than me....
obsessed much
the problem is we have brought in a lot of new players and it ends up being pot luck if they can hold on to a spot at a pl team from the lower leagues..
The first players I want signed are ince and Zaha.
We may lose bolasie which would be a killer- but Zaha is much more of a player and ince a great fill in to becoming a starter in a year or so's time.
We spent 4 odd mill on gayle and he is useless in a Pulis team. Sadly we wont get near that back for him. So fingers crossed we can utilise him somehow. i dont want to go crazy buying 14 average players again like holloway did. I would much rather go for 4 good players and keep what we have rather than gambling on players from lower leagues

Chelsea will still think they can win the league...So Norwich have no chance.......
City can mess up a cup of tea and Palace want to finish in front of the fans on a high and are stubborn...1-0 Isn't out of the bounds of possibility and Mourinho will know that.....Though I do expect Liverpool to win !!
Me I think Liverpool win the league still.........My beloved City will stumble probably at home to Villa knowing them.......
History has taught me in the 20 odd years I've followed them to expect the worst..

Another question:
Villa and Toon fans, why do you want your managers out? And "neutrals" - why should either man, or indeed Allardyce at our place, stay or go?

all should stay.
Newcastle are a huge club with a big fan base and a big turnover. he doesn't get the backing financially.
as you said before dolph- what's the point in replacing big sam for someone else like him. but then you do have a soft spot for moyes dont you!!
villa- ok 50/50 on that one. not sure.

Villa - Lambert - I'm 50/50 here. I think you can make a great case for Lambert going, the on pitch product is so inconsistent, although I do think they've had rotten luck with injuries. But I'd also argue any manger is going to struggle at the minute at Villa, you've got a owner who doesn't want to invest, debts in the club, a youthful squad with players like Baker forced to play despite not being good enough. Its a tough one for me, I can see either way.
Allardyce - West Ham - I understand the style of play argument, I had the same with Hughton. But I do think Allardyce should be given the summer to try and progress the style like Pulis/Hughton were at there clubs. I think he's earnt that with the results he's achieved (safety)
Pardew - Newcastle - Much like Allardyce should be given the summer to make changes, and has factors out of his hands which hamper his management. But results haven't been good enough and I think he's a vile man so I wouldn't mind seeing the back of him

They have indeed, but someone like Olsson's been good all season, played through an injury that's gonna require surgery in the summer, should be player of the season, but won't be cos some idiots thought it'd be funny to vote for Nash, when it's just pathetic and makes a mockery of the Barry Butler trophy, im sure his family are pleased about that btw

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Its a debate in football, is all. Its a discussion point. I think its interesting. Some suggest it shows a poor support, others say its fair cop.
I can understand all cases to fire. All three are screwed by their Chairmen's reluctance to spend.
Pardew I feel has been mugged, but he lets himself down with his character. The board screwed him in January, and it filtered to the players very easily. Results should have been better, but the fact they've lost no ground just shows how little they had to play for. It feels to me like the fans can't target Ashley now so have chosen someone new.
Lambert. He could have bought a lot better, but his hands are tied too. I really think he'll go on to do more if given the chance, and there's a part of me who'd like him at West Ham, but hes also infuriating and makes a rod for his own back.
Allardyce - I'm still not fussed either way, but his actions don't help, he needs to improve the side and the atmosphere is vile at the club. I think the last part of that is possibly why he should change; the place feels angrier than i've known it. My feeling is that the manager would be easier to replace now than in the season, so if nothing is going to change in his approach then he should go now.
Today we've been linked with ex-Milan manager Allegri. Thats mental.

For me Lambert needs to go.
We need a change. He will just continue to sign cannon fodder in the summer if he stays.
The football under him is poor.
Defence is shocking.
Cant score
Players cant even find their man for a simple pass(mind you most of our playes could'nt find t1ts in a strip club).
3 key positions, centre back(cabnt have another season with Baker/Clarke). Okore will come back, but still another to cover injuries.
Attacking midfielder and another striker, especially with Tekkers out till xmas.
If Lambert stays things will not get better.
He said months ago that we are improving, moving forward. No we're not Paul.
We've done worse this season than last.
We've been a laughing stock since MON left. Finishing 6th 3 seasons in a row, for example.. Now look at us.
Dont get me started on Lerner.
For all the moaning I do(maybe not as much as Olly on Norwich: ), I do love this club and will always show my support.
Its sad to see where we are going, from where we once were.

I think for Villa it'd be a definate risk to get rid of Lambert, he will keep you in the division while you go through this tumultuous time with the lack of funds and the ownership issue.
I can't see you getting back to the levels you were under MON under any manager while Lerner is still in charge.
Tbh you could go the way of a Blackburn if you sack Lambert IMO
He's in the category of could be better, could be worse, and with the state Villa are in at the minute, a bit of stability in the management might not be a bad thing

Maybe, but we'll still probably be down the bottom, so wont exactly be an enjoyable season.

Surely itd be better just not to turn up. Ashley still gets his money
Embarrassing really, won't achieve anything. I don't understand why Newcastle fans can't just understand that we need to wait until the summer to rebuild the squad. I've been saying it since February & even knew this run of form was bound to happen. Yeah, it's been a torrid time but we are still going to finish top 10. Let's just wait until the summer & see what unfolds. If Ashley doesn't re-invest, then something need to be done. Patience is all that's needed.
