Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
First topic message reminder :
Superb by Mourinho. When are Liverpool at their most dangerous? The first thirty minutes of games; that is, generally, when they tear teams apart.
Not allowed to do that today, though, even against a very weakened Chelsea side. Liverpool didn't get a clear chance all game, and one costly, costly error gave Chelsea what they needed.
That and frustration, as Liverpool rapidly ran out of ideas and invention.
Back in City's hands now - another title won on goal difference?

I can't for the life of me see Villa or West Ham get anything at Eastlands.
That's it for me. Agree with the atmosphere Hampo. Un-Goodison like but I suppose they'd rather City win the title than us. Rivalry is a mo fo.
The cut that was the Chelsea defeat will sting for a good while. We could hit 100 goals and still come up short. Amazing.
Fair play to City though. They did what was needed.

You should still be showing your support and I'd certainly never want my team to lose. It's City's to lose now, doubt Villa will beat them but Carroll could always cause them a few problems.

If I was an Everton fan then yes i'd rather lose than help out Liverpool.

The Everton game was very much summed up by them singing:
"Steve Gerrard, Gerrard, he slipped from 40 yards, he gave it to Demba Ba. Steve Gerrard, Gerrard."

If anyone is kicking themselves this season, it should be Chelsea.
Beat Citeh and Liverpool home and away, I believe, but will lose out on the title courtesy of dropping too many points to the lesser teams.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Thought the Everton fans (well, large sections of them in any case) were an absolute disgrace tonight. What made me laugh is that, when City were running down the clock in the final minutes and time wasting, some Toffees started getting on their backs and calling for action from the referee. Why did they suddenly become interested then?
Doesn't sit well with me that any 'fan' would ever, under any circumstances, actually want their team to lose. You're meant to support your club first and foremost, rather than worry about all the others. What many at Goodison were doing today wasn't displaying how loyal they are to Everton, or however else they'd try to dress it up. For me, all it showed was how jealous and bitter they are towards Liverpool.
As I said, I'd wonder why any Everton fan would be more concerned with what happens with their main rivals than they are with their own side.

I agree chris.
As a fan you want your team to win every game.
Pretty sad that some Everton fans wanted to lose, just to see Liverpool fail to win the league.
Especially when they have a chance of europe.

What if Arsenal now lose their final two games? Mathematically Everton could still have gotten 4th place, they should be backing their club until that is 100% gone.

Yeah like that was going to happen.
We may screw up league titles & cups but when it comes to 4th place there ain't no one better in Europe
This is what we do!

Mathematically yes it is possible.
But in reality Arsenal are not losing their final two games especially when they're gonna be a West From team who are safe at home and an already relegated Norwich side away.

Mathematically Norwich can still stay up.
Not the first time it's happened and won't be the last. Ultimately it wouldn't matter if Liverpool hadnt pooped the bed vs Chelsea

Well it does seem that there are reasonable grounds for such an appeal; it may only serve to prolong the agony, however!

Immensely sad. I can't support any club who tries to win in court over the field

Always good to see lawyers get involved. Fulham of course have history with this, one of the clubs that tried to get us relegated in a courtroom rather than on the pitch. Mugs.
I love the "your support was bad" vibes going on. Love these sanctimonious Liverpool fans. If you want my reasons for not wanting Liverpool to win you only have to see how quickly the charm has left them since the going got tough.

Sunderland admitted their own mistake and only picked up a point from 4 games anyway

The big difference is that Wimbledon won the game in which the ineligible player played so a points deduction in that case seems reasonable, Sunderland should really have the solitary point deducted which they picked up in his four games.

I'm not sure I agree that the 1 point gained means 1 point added. They, effectively, cheated in 4 games where 12 points were available. Rules aren't determined by how well you break them.

Like Sunderland, we brought it up to the authorities. In fact, our new owners came in and saw that a regulation hadn't been followed and alerted those concerned. We weren't told not to play him, we had agreement with said authorities of what we needed to do, which we did, so he could play. The others did enough to shoot themselves in the foot. It wasn't smartly done by all means but the amount of blame these clubs put on us was, frankly, a bit pathetic. Just beat Wigan at home if you want to stay up Blunty boys

Can see your thinking, however, it's usually a newly promoted team & an owner suddenly gets an itchy trigger finger after a poor start.
