Dad watched snooker quite a lot when I was a kid so I've watched Davis, Hendry and O'Sullivan through their peaks. O'Sullivan is the best I've seen. In flow it's mesmeric, break building and positional play is better than anyones and nowadays his safety is the best around too. O'Sullivan used to be his own biggest enemy and he even seems to have him under control now!

Cue (ah ha) him getting beaten!

Ronnie is snooker.

talk about seby's intensity and grinding prowess and Neil Roberson 100 100's - but there are kindergarten kids in comparison.

And sadly there is only trump from the younger bunch that is any good.

The Chinese invasion hasn't happened yet- and to be honest I am not sure if it ever will. I am 50/50 on it, at the moment its dribs and drabs of built up players not being able to maintain it at the top

Once Ronnie is gone- where is snooker?

I can see him winning the next 5 World champs at this rate

China is the future of snooker, financially anyway. That's were the tournaments are increasingly held. Ronnie is a one off, a real character and an utterly brilliant player but I'm sure snooker will survive.
I cant see him being around much longer, he's just one of those guys that you feel in one way or the other it wont all have a happy ending, I think there are a lot of demons going on inside his head. Hope I'm wrong though, love watching him play.

Have to admit without O'Sullivan snooker would be a much duller place. Despite his immense talent I didn't think he would get near Hendry's record. Now he looks like he could breeze past it in his sleep. Will he implode before he gets there? I don't think so, I think his demons are more settled now than they were say 5 years ago. But what do I know, I'm still mystified how White never bagged at least a couple of world titles.

the problem I see with china is although they are producing the odd half decent player and millions of amateurs- they allways have been- Now that they are getting more westernised if they dont have a champ to route for they will be subjected to every other western sport as well and we could see a reduction in participation due to more popular western sports.

The market is huge - but the market in china is huge for all sports

I think Ding is a lot better than half decent, 11 ranking titles is very good, but he does have an issue with the worlds.
Maybe if he can crack that and win one it could be a catalyst for the other Chinese, who knows eh.

Maybe- but from our neck of the woods Roonie is still the major draw. Trump has the natural talent and flair to also be a draw, great to see him closer to his best this event. But where are the next kids....

The average tournament player age is going up and up by the looks of things

I think Hearns idea of not seeding at the other tournaments is designed to bring more players through. Basically though I'm only interested in UK and Worlds and maybe the Masters.
I'm not sold on Trump, think he's a bit of a bottle job myself, and he's 24 now so only 3 years younger than Ding.

From my point of view you need that exiting player. A player prepared to take the shots on, some of that games have been desperate this year.

Take me back 10 years and i can remember a match up with hendry and o sullivan and i think they had 10 100's in 11 frames- it was something else.

ding at his best has an amazing positional play- He reminded me of hendry at his best. Then he seemed to take a nose dive.

I havent been taken note of any ranking events recently- but Ding won 4 last year by the looks of things- so yes he is back(i didnt realise)

Trump just walked out to compose himself having lost a crucial frame (I think it had clawed him back to 11-11 at the time, Trump having been 11-8 up earlier). Robertson was going mental and jumping round (which is OK for him as it's a hell of an achievement). To be fair I'd want to get out of the way too to focus on the match. At that point Robertson was an opponent and the match was in the balance.

Good to hear Trump congratulated him after though despite a morale bruising loss having been in pole position.

Nope. He's a bit of a bell-end. Honest he may be, but still a dolt. Snooker has a rich history of complementing your opponent when, for example, they play, or get out of, an excellent safety/snooker. Trump is a talent, no doubt about that, but I won't be that surprised if he never realises what he could have done from the sport.
The lack of response re. Robertson's 100 x 100s is maybe OK as a one off given the situation but Trump has a bit of a history of being a bell-end. More than a coincidence here I think.
Exciting player, good to watch, talent, bell-end. Maybe he'll grow up at some point?

NBS just because you think he is a bell end doesnt mean he is one....

100 - 100's means zip all.

he was banging on about bradman's record like this is the same acheivement- lol.

Robbo as good as he is and he is certainly the no.2 in the world- isnt in the same league as the unofficial no.1(osullivan) only not the no.1 because he doesnt play the ranking events.(how he got out of that is pretty out of order from my pov but anyway he is allowed not to play in them but still compete in the biggies and thats that)

Only joking Mysti, though nobody was saying the squad was any good 2 months ago.
If still go Pulis unless Liverpool win the league.
Can't see Norwich getting anything at the Bridge tomorrow which would mean we stay up because of goal difference. Then again my last predictions on here were Sunderland were down and Connor Wickham (Barclays player of month for April) was not good enough for the Premiership....hey ho.

poyet deserves top 5 easily and will be some peoples no 1. if he keeps sunderland up. So i wouldn't really take it as a joke and a relatively fair shout if it wasn't for pulis, rodgers, bruce or martinez

But that team is worth something like 2 times more than the palace squad in monetary value.(100m to 50m)

Pulis is gutted we couldn't sign wickham in jan- what a prospect!! worth 15 mill now by the looks of things and will go somewhere decent- I hope he doesn't and stays with you(if you stay up) because otherwise he will be farmed out by a top club

Be great to see Everton hold City today, just can't warm to Man City and it's not the money, dunno what it is really but then again Id still rather them than Chelsea.

You rascal!!
Not that I'm not a Barkley fan, just don't understand why he's not a 90-minute a game man; is there something in his make-up that Martinez doesn't much care for?
Brilliant goal though and he's certainly capable of it.
But then so are fly-by-nights like Morrison and Townsend and I wouldn't take either of them to Bridlington, let alone Brazil . . . . .

Morrison is a head case, and by the sounds of it a highly unpleasant one. Great talent sure but Id bet a fortune against him having a top career. Jermaine Pennant Mk2.
Barkley apparently is a top lad, great work ethic plus a lot of talent. Way better prospect.

Ravel must be even money to spend some time in the pokey before he's 30; agree w/comparison to Pennant - what a moron.

Everton are going to get overrun here unless they change something; got to get Coleman forward more, perhaps let Alcatraz escape and put on Delofeu.

Fair play to everton for playing this style of footie, but citeh are just way more clinical and everton are gifting chances at the back. But when barkley gets on that ball its impressive stuff- strong, quick and skillful.

lukaka should be doing more tbh. not suprised chelsea dont see enough in him

What I love about Barkley is he always wants the ball and is always available. Everything Everton does starts with him. Think he could be a massive player in a really top side.
Funny how much stock Demechilis has had and still will most likely pick up a league winners medal as a City regular and you don't win titles and concede as few as City by carrying passengers.

Possibly the dullest 7 minutes of extra time ever?

3 points adrift before the last game of the season. And somehow managed to not get relegated out of the football league. I'm still shocked and a bit hungover.

The club from the town where Luke Donald went to school, I think. I nearly did too!
