Glasgow 7's
First topic message reminder :
Scotland 7s squad for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May at Scotstoun Stadium: Scott Riddell, Colin Shaw, Richie Vernon (Glasgow Warriors), Alex Glashan, Colin Gregor (captain), Nick De Luca (Edinburgh Rugby), Andrew Turnbull, Michael Maltman, Chris Dean, Scott Wight (Glasgow Warriors), Lee Jones (Glasgow Warriors), James Eddie (Glasgow Warriors).
Looks like we will at least be competitive this weekend.

Re: Glasgow 7's
Apparently the first day at Twickenham is sold out - 70,000+ (I don't think the top tier is open for the 7s).
It would be a shame if Scotland did lose their leg, it being the birthplace of 7s.
There's always a big attendance at Dubai; around 40-50,000. Not all of them will be in the main ground though as there are 6 or 7 pitches and the International Vets tournament is a big draw.
This was won by the Steelers, a largely Scottish side featuring Jason White, Marcus di Rollo, Gavin Kerr and Robbie Russell amongst others, plus overseas guests in Caleb Ralph, Oriol Ripol and Thinus Delport.
The K9 Legends (beaten finalists) featured Waisali Serevi and several other ex stars of PI rugby.
There are lots of other tournaments going on as well.

Re: Glasgow 7's
Is anyone going to the twickenham 7's? I might make the journey across but is there a possibility that the tournament will be won by someone other than New Zealand? I don't think I will bother if it's a foregone conclusion. I can see the points table but in unsure due to the technicalities of the scoring what would have to happen for it to be a contest and how likely that is?

Re: Glasgow 7's
Unless SA win the tourny and NZ don't make a sf of one of the lower competitions, it's pretty much done and dusted. I think they only have to make it through their Pool to win it. 22 ranking points for the winners and 19 for runners up.
NZ are 19 points ahead of SA as it stands.

Thanks. I think it's wrong when the draw prevents a genuine competition. Perhaps it would be a good idea if the tournaments in the European leg were worth more points to keep interest up in the circuit. I've noticed over the last seasons that it's generally been decided before the teams get here and it spoils it to an extent for the British fans. The IRB should do something about it if they want to grow the competition.

Re: Glasgow 7's
Bit strange to not want to go to the tournament because it is a foregone conclusion that the best 7s team in world rugby by a long way are going to win the world series, given that those days are all about having lots of beer, having a laugh, wearing stupid fancy dress and watching world class 7s.
I mean, who would want to watch incredible 7s players run riot with amazing skill, speed and strength?? How boring is that!

Re: Glasgow 7's
I think what Scramble is saying is that the teams will play better sevens if they get 44 points for winning the tournament at say Twickenham, as opposed to only 22 points for winning at Wellington.

It's double at HK..maybe that should be last? Or perhaps 66 in the uk? To add spice for the biggest grossing audience?
