BBC pound-for-pound British rankings

After much deliberation, staff at the BBC Sport website have come up with their top 10 British fighters, pound-for-pound.
Ignoring weight, this subjective list takes into account fighters' recent results, their skills, resilience and punching power.

The list will be updated periodically and should be treated as a talking point.

1. Carl Froch - Super-middleweight

Nottingham (32-2, 23KOs)

Froch finally agreed to a rematch with George Groves after much pressure from the public, media and Groves himself. The fight at Wembley Stadium promises to be the biggest in British history.

2. Kell Brook - Welterweight

Sheffield (32-0, 22KOs)

Brook will challenge American Shawn Porter for the IBF title this summer. Porter is muscular and powerful but he is also far from beatable. Brook has a good chance, wherever it happens.

3. George Groves - Super-middleweight

London (19-1, 15KOs)

Groves was magnificent in defeat against Carl Froch and will get another chance to dethrone his arch rival in May. On this occasion, nobody will be calling the fight a mismatch.

4. Ricky Burns - Lightweight

Coatbridge (37-3, 11KOs)

Burns finds himself at the crossroads after losing his WBO lightweight title to American Terence Crawford. At this stage in his career, Burns will not want to move back down to domestic level.

5. Amir Khan - Light-welterweight

Bolton (28-3, 19KOs)

Having declined to fight last December in the belief he would land a dream fight against Floyd Mayweather, the American legend decided to fight Marcos Maidana instead. Humiliating.

6. Carl Frampton - Super-bantamweight

Belfast (18-0, 13KOs)

Frampton continued his rise through the super-bantamweight ranks with a knockout victory over Hugo Cazares. The Northern Irishman is now targeting WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz.

7. Scott Quigg - Super-bantamweight

Bury (28-0-2, 21KOs)

Quigg defended his WBA title with a devastating second-round stoppage of Tshifhiwa Munyai. Wants to fight WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz or IBF champion Kiko Martinez next.

8. Martin Murray - Middleweight

St Helens (25-1-1, 11KOs)

Murray gave a game display in challenging for Sergio Martinez's WBC crown in Buenos Aires but looked rusty on his return in December. Lack of motivation might have been a factor.

9. Jamie McDonnell - Bantamweight

Doncaster (22-2-1, 10KOs)

McDonnell will fight Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat for the vacant WBA bantamweight title at Wembley Stadium in May, having won and been stripped of the IBF title last year.

10. Tyson Fury - Heavyweight

Manchester (22-0, 16KOs)

After a frustrating 2013, which saw a dream fight against David Haye fall through, Fury will fight a rematch against British rival Dereck Chisora in July, which will double as a world title eliminator.

Quigg at number two with Frampton at 9, I guess you can make a case but it's hard to see that one.

Both sets are poor.

Froch's out in front but there's then no sensible argument for not including fighters who've mixed at work level behind him: Khan, Burns etc.

Frampton ahead of Quigg due to the Martinez win.

I read the Ben Dirs Mayweather v Maidana report. If you didn't see the fight you would think Floyd won 118-110 reading it. Very poor stuff.

Ben Dirs is dreadful and so is that BBC list. Including Brook at 2 renders the rest of the list pointless.

I know Hall as got a title but I would still rate McDonnell over him.

When he beats the useless stiff for the WBA then I'll amend it..

Value world titles slightly more than others on here.........Starling beat Brown.......But in 89 I had Brown higher.......

But I wouldn't object to anyone having mcdonnell higher......

Martin Murray over Quigg for me. Draw with Sturm and a questionable defeat away to Martinez smashes anything Quigg has blagged.
