First topic message reminder :
Seems as though Joe Cole has been released by West Ham, might be a solid bargain for a lower league team if hes prepared to drop

You wonder where the papers pluck these stories.
No source what so ever and none of van gaal or his staff have any sort of relationship with the media in Britain.

They won't make up stories though, especially as these are not thr tabloids. They would have reasonable information from someone, especially as it blows away their earlier confidence it was a done deal.

Generally, and I truly mean this, sports journalists, especially on the broadsheets, will not make up stories. Especially stories that contradict the stories they have put out earlier.

Also, Jim White says West Ham have bid for Nodge's Olsson. Either that or we've bid for Nigel's eldest son

NUFC & others linked with Tomas Kalas on loan. Be surprised if Mourinho let him go out on loan, although they do have Kurt Zouma next season. If we can do a deal, I'd be happy, looked more than decent at Anfield & I can't be doing with another season of Yanga Mbiwa performances.

They may as well.
They report any old nonsense that comes out of anyone's mouth- because it sells papers and gets hits on websites.

It would be an odd move to make up Van Gaal had decided against, having reported earlier he was to sign.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
United had over 180 players linked with them in last years transfer window; around 30/40 were pretty solid leads according to 'sources' and papers. Essentially take everything that is said with a pinch of salt these days...even stories with a source aren't always true...much of the sources leak stuff purposefully so as to drive up prices or signing competition for said player.
Very easy to say that it's best to get transfers done before the WC but it's not entirely up to the clubs on either side of the negotiating table. Kroos...and others who are being linked and are in WC will most likely want to wait it out themselves...good performances = more offers = opportunity to drive up wages when in negotiations.

“I am expecting to play for Bayern Munich next season,” Kroos told Bild. “There was a lot of speculation, but Manchester is and was not an issue. At this point in time I am fully focused on preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”

There's taking things with a pinch of salt and knowing certain journalists on certain papers and column length. And then in line with what they've reported before.
Looks to me like the Kroos stuff was reported on with such intent for a reason. Almost like the 3 years studying this stuff and then project on the reporting of transfer rumours has left me not just plucking opinion out of thin air.

I wasn't accusing you of dolphin! That time of the month?!
I just meant all transfer stories should be taken with a pinch of salt; though more so tabloid than broadsheet who are known to be much better and usually will only print if there is a larger probablity of it going through than not. The nature of the transfer market is that things change on a day to day basis so in that sense it's always best to assume any deal is not done until a player is unveiled at a news conference.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Kroos - Not happening
Cesc - Arsenal have the power
Carvalho - Staying apparently at Lisbon
Strootman - Injured
Hummels - No bid man as of yet, difficult to pull off in my opinion
Garay - Will be linked until he's retired no doubt.
Robben - Ageing, is this really the future of United?
Shaw - Bid made & then no progress.
Lack of momentum in the market is worrying for United. Thought Woodward wanted the majority of signings made before the WC

Adds good experience to the back 4 line, one of the best if not the best center back in that league last season without question. Free transfer, great and sensible signing IMO.

Entirely incorrect, but Upsons the kind of player you sign to do a job in a lower league. Would've thought Leicester would be aiming hire with their impending income

why then do quick players tear up the championship only to struggle when they reach the prem, its because the players are a lot quicker in the prem. look at the likes of zaha, nugent, ebanks blake, beckford all of which have had very good seasons in the championship only to be found out in the prem

Keep reading we are (strongly) linked with Lescott.
He is willing to take a pay cut to get regular football.
It will have to be a massive cut, considering we couldn't offer Albrighton around 35k he wanted.
A soon as a buyer comes in the better. Lerner says he is looking to sell within 6 weeks.

Be interesting to see if Van Gaal is slated in the way Moyes was should transfers not come off; he has far less excuses if they don't. He will have the same amount of time as Moyes in the transfer window, and has a chief executive that has been in the role for a year longer..
I would imagine Moyes is rubbing his hands in glee at every apparent transfer that doesn't come off....and can only imagine the glee on his face should the rumour/news on skysports come off...which is...
James McCarthy is a top target for Man Utd this summer....!

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I mean, he was good at Everton and is clearly a talented player, but seems an odd idea.
I very much assume they'll have a punt on Clasie or similar Dutch players.
Unrelated, did Van Der Vaart's side get relegated in the end? Someone in England must be thinking he's worth a punt

Move over James McCarthy, now Gervinho is on the radar!
From the previous options of Kroos and Reus/Muller, then McCarthy & Gervinho isn't filling me with optimism, Ent was right all along!

Surely United must look at a Director of Recruitment role if Woodward blows it again. Throw all the criticism at Moyes, but Woodwards ineptitude last summer set the tone.

Gervinho is tank Been one of the bright sparks of a poor Seria A season along with Pjanic & Hernanes.
Anyone else feel they "We're a big enough club to sign players without european football" is coming back to bite them in the ass.
21st: MUFC seal deal for Kroos
22nd: LVG doesn't want Kroos
22nd: Kroos - I won't join Man Utd
23rd: Man Utd after James McCarthy/Gervinho

I never did. There were some delusional fans talking about the 'United' brand & the finances but I had my doubts. I still feel you will pick up Shaw because domestically United have always dominated signings, like the RVP capture & the Jones deal, when Liverpool & others were sniffing. Attracting European signings is a different kettle of fish though, something the United hierarchy probably thought a big name like LVG might be able to overcome. As things stand, that might not be the case.

Fee doesn't make sense whatsoever, it's ludicrous. Partnering him with Thiago Silva does make sense with the Brazil connection + Alex is ageing now.
Chelsea will laugh all the way to the bank + pays for Costa + might allow Jose to bring in another one or two top players before next season.

Don't really know why people would expect van Gaal to spend big on established players. He doesn't tend to get on that well with people that get more column inches than him, and much prefers being the dominant father figure that gets young talent to the top (which he's great at).

Yeah but we've never really grabbed the big European marquee signings- don't know why people expected us to now.
Shaw and a decent (ie Sub elite/world class) centre half would be a good window considering out problems IMO.

You seem to believe all you read in the papers and take glee from the failed rumours which considering you're meant to be a journalist is somewhat baffling, as for being linked with 180 targets or whatever it was you stated, not a chance.
Have we failed with Kroos? Well if we're to believe the papers which seem to change their minds every day then it is Van Gaal who has pulled the plug hardly a failure just a managers decision.
