Seems as though Joe Cole has been released by West Ham, might be a solid bargain for a lower league team if hes prepared to drop

Not sure thats fair to Cesc. Not a typical Mourinho player, thought Pogba would be more likely.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
That's a good point. He got rid of Mata and Cesc is a similar-ish player. With Luiz on the way out I'd still expect them to buy and sell. Pogba's a good call but I think they need an experienced midfielder with Lampard now gone.

Cesc can play deeper in the midfield, Mata is a straight AM.

Would you have him as 1 of the 2 in the 4-2-3-1 that Chelsea play? I think he'd be wasted slightly.

I think he'd be perfect. Matic the proper shield, Fabregas to start and join things.

Seems too open for me.
Terry and Cahill worked because they got great protection from the midfield and FBs.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I completely trust Van Gaal and his transfer dealings and how he wants to go about re-building the squad. I'm sure the players he does bring in will benefit us and will no doubt improve us. He knows better than me in how to build a team. However...
When a player like Fabregas is available, is staggers me that we aren't going all out for him. He provides goals and assists from the centre of midfield and is up for sale and is a proven world class player in the prem. So why are we apparently not interested? Strootman is the ideal man and yes I hope we get him, but when is he really going to be back from his injury? Not for a while and it'll take him a while to gain his fitness back and adapt to the prem. In Fabregas, we have a quality centre midfielder and to have strootman alongside him when he's available and if he signs seems a formidable partnership and the partnership we've been crying out for for many years now.

The line-up suggested by John with Matic and Fabregas holding seems great to me. It will allow Fabregas to move foward in support of the attacks and Matic will slot in and provide the protection for Terry and Cahill as he did so often last season.

Fabregas isn't that lightweight compared to most Spanish midfielders really, you can tell he had a lot of his development in England.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Cesc`s got a nasty side to him too, similar to Cabaye actually. He suits the EPL but I'm still not convinced Cesc would want to join Chelsea under Mourinho. It was only last season, Cesc was dissing Jose & telling him to shut up, in relation to Jose saying Man City would be facing the worst Barcelona side in years. Maybe it will be forgotten & tensions resolved, but I still think Jose would prefer Pogba.
Atletico have bought a keeper from Getafe, maybe signalling the end for Courtois in Spain. Also, Newcastle lining up Ross McCormack from Leeds.

We won't get anyone good, good players don't want to join 7th placed sides.
Shaw and a decent centre half will represent a very good window.
A decent centre mid in addition would be an excellent achievement.

according to the june report from the CIES football observatory Luis Suarez is the
3rd more valuable player worth approx 100 million euros. more surprisingly Pogba is 6th at around 68 (juventus would sell him above 60 apparently) and less surprisingly PSG overpaid again (Luiz would be worth 30 M€ while PSG paid close to 50...).
here's the top 20 :
1. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) 200.2 - 232.6 million €
2. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 105.7 - 122.9
3. Luis Suárez (Liverpool) 98.5 - 114.5
4. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) 75.9 - 88.3
5. Neymar Júnior (Barcelona) 62.8 - 73.0
6. Paul Pogba (Juventus) 60.6 - 70.4
7. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) 58.4 - 67.8
8. Mesut Özil (Arsenal) 49.2 - 57.2
9. Edinson Cavani (Paris SG) 48.0 - 55.8
10. Mario Götze (Bayern München) 47.0 - 54.6
11. Diego Costa (Atlético Madrid) 46.9 - 54.5
12. Oscar dos Santos (Chelsea) 46.0 - 53.4
13. Sergio Agüero (Manchester City) 45.2 - 52.6
14. Isco Alarcón (Real Madrid) 40.9 - 47.5
15. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) 38.7 - 44.9
16. Ross Barkley (Everton) 36.8 - 42.8
17. Thomas Müller (Bayern München) 36.7 - 42.7
. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) 36.7 - 42.7
19. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) 36.4 - 42.4

I am hoping Senderos will be cover behind Vlaar & Okore.
Okore got injured early on last season, so didn't get to see much of him, altough was at the Newcastle game and he looked pretty poor.
Clark and Baker are up for grabs if anyone wants them:

He's very versatile as well, primarily a defensive midfielder but can operate comfortably at left back and has played centre back, left wing and centre mid in the past season.

It's a little more than I'd have wanted to pay, but he seems to have a lot of attributes we lack in our strikers, and if he can keep up his record of basically 20 goals a season (56 in past three years) then it'll be worthwhile

If that's the case, Arsene can go **** himself. Will have just undone 90% of the unrest from not winning anything. We get endless injuries in midfield have a top class player available who would walk into our midfield with 1st option and goes nah im good. Apparently we only want a forward & RB & Spare goalkeeper. Despite the fact we need a DM

As an Arsenal fan, i think its Wenger playing politics. He didn't like the way Cesc engineered his moved and certainly doesn't want to pay £35m to get someone back who left so acrimoniously.

You need a RB, a forward and a DM. So there is no need to spend £30m on Cesc. Its not like Wenger does what the clamour tells him, he does what he thinks is right.

I'd like to see Jenkinson given a chance, but you're right, a RB is a position that needs strengthening. Shame Diaby is so frequently injured as he would be a brilliant DM. I like Tiote, i think he would be the bite Arsenal have lacked in the midfield.
Forward wise, I don't expect a 'huge' name. He will persevere with Sanogo, Giroud and Podo.

Arsenal legend!
Lambert is absolute toilet as a manager. How he's survived the last two seasons is beyond me. Laughable when you consider Newcastle fans clamouring for Pardew to be sacked.

But all we're after is a RB & Forward. We keep being told about this 100m warchest.
Aurier is 7.5m
The highest forward id seen linked is Balotelli at 30m - Carlos Vela at 3.25m
Seen Javi Martinez DM wise at 30m with Sami Khedira at 25m ain't really happening so will be cheap frenchman like Gonalons at 15-20m
At the most it's 67.5m - That leaves 32.5m to spend if have the cash they said they do why not make the side better. We didn't need Ozil for AM we have Cazorla who had a great season the season before but we bought him anyway because that kind of quality you don't let go. Especially with 1st option.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I feel like i've been hearing about Arsenal with a £100m war chest for longer than I've had hair on my chest.
I can't really agree. You have Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla and even Wilshire who can play where Fabregas does. The first 3 might be better at the role Fabregas would play in your team; Ozil and Cazorla also far more adaptable in a trio behind a striker. Considering Walcott and the Ox will be involved up there too then Fabregas is a luxury that could cause you to lose someone very good.
Granted he could play deeper, but whether he would have the discipline in as open a team as Arsenal are is another question.

If he can score 20 goals for us like he did for Bournemouth he'll be more than worth it
