I didn't think Wenger would be able to resist, but probably good that we're not spending 30m on a squad player

Ayoze Perez/Jack Colback on their way. Rebuilding towards the top 6

Leeds say youve bid for McCormack, Toon deny it.
I wouldnt be getting your hopes towards top 6 whether you bought well or not.

Not overly impressed by Liverpools dealings so far, seems a bit last year.

Can's a good buy IMO especially being it was felt they had a weak squad and he's a player that can comfortably play in a variety of positions.

Personally don't rate him in the slightest, think we need to be judging Liverpool by different standards now, had we United bought him I wouldn't be impressed or happy.

We won't be doing anything until after the world cup, I don't necessarily think a deal for Kroos is dead but more down to Van Gaal wanting a look at him. All our scouting was down under Moyes and judging by LVG's character he'll be reluctant to trust the word of somebody else.

Buying players playing in the world cup before it's started makes no sense, you could spend £25mil on somebody then have receive an injury that rules them out for months.

Or the reverse, you're keen on a player, they have a blinder and you're priced out of a deal for him.
Last World Cup, Utd got Chicarito for 6m, after the WC that would have been considerably more.

there is certainly a balance and risk in both, but my personal preference has always been get it done as early as possible. city did well last season doing the same. leaving it till after a world cup doesnt leave much time to agree deals then get the players moved in and settled.
take shaw for instance, get it done now. agent can sort living accommodation etc. then after WC he can move straight in and get his head down in training

Yeah quite pleased that Liverpool are looking to do most deals early in the window, been stung before by waiting too late. Signing players in positions we need as well which is always a good sign. Next step for me is offloading a couple, think one of Aspas or Borini is definitely gone, I would sell Aspas, at least Borini showed last year that when fit he can do a decent job in the Premier League and is versatile and younger, would have thought Assaidi will be sold, probably to Stoke, so too Reina to Napoli now that Ter Stegen went to Barca.
And the bids for Lallana presumably show the willingness to spend big on a player which is always exciting.

That Rakitic deal is a steal. Little bits of smart business being done by Barca.
West Ham are chasing about 4 left backs currently. Timothee Kolodziejczak and Marcus Olsson are two of those, Raphaël Guerreiro a possible third. Also yet to meet the £7m asking price for Anderlecht's Kouyate. Sounds to me like we're still in and around the Barry move too but most likely Everton.

Hard to believe no one else in for rakitic at that price.
Kick in the balls they are apparently looking to off load fabregas 1 year after we put all our eggs in that basket.

Be interesting to see if he starts, or if Okore will partner Vlaar.
At least that is another Villa representation at the WC. Takes our tally to 3.

@DZ - The rumour is we did make a bid for McCormack. It was apparently so derisory & insulting, not only did Leeds reject it, but we also claimed we didn't make the bid because it would of looked embarrassing. Typical Ashley.
Ayoze will be heading to the development squad, that geezer does not look like he will cut it in the EPL. Basically another Almalfitano....the bad one.
Always like Rakitic & he's only 26 I think. Interesting direction Barcelona are going now.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
The Assaidi deal has stalled due to Stoke waiting to see if he recovers from a knee injury he got at the end of last season. They're also unwilling to shell out £7million for him. Looks like Alberto might off too and I'd think they'll off-load Aspas who has failed to make the most of the few opportunities he's had. His corner kick in the dying seconds of the Chelsea game may have sealed his fate...it certainly did in my eyes. Shame really as in pre-season, he showed some lovely touches and I thought he might work out well. Shows what I know....Crimey wrote:Yeah quite pleased that Liverpool are looking to do most deals early in the window, been stung before by waiting too late. Hi John,
A close friend of mine follows Leeds and he believes that the debt is worse than Cellino first thought and he is touting out players based on rumour. And either way, the £8million he claims is hardly derisory.
Can't see McCormack going there, he's not French.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Confused. No, our supposed offer was derisory & it wasn't £8m, that's what your valuation is. I'd be amazed if we offered more than £4m as our first offer. Not particularly happy about how things are panning out for us, especially as the Gomis deal has gone quiet,Cabella deal has gone pear-shaped & we're now resorting to pursuing Championship players. Even Danny Ings is in the mix.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
You say "resorting to pursuing Championship players" like that's automatically a bad thing
Some very good players down there and below, wouldn't hurt if you filled your squad out with hungry young players from England than Frenchmen looking for a payday

The problem is when you lose the class of Cabaye and Remy and replace them with hungry championship players in a squad that isnt automatically that good.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I'm saying it, in terms of the striker who's going to spearhead our side & lead us into the top half of the table. Do I have faith in McCormack scoring 15+ goals in the EPL, like Demba or Loic have done. The answer is no. I know there is talent in the Championship but for our main striker, I'd rather have a proven player like Gomis, who's done it in another top league & in Europe. I have no problem with us signing young, exciting players from the Championship, like Will Hughes for example, I just feel we need to push the boat out, for essentially, the striker who's going to keep us in the EPL. I think you will understand that.

If you can find the right player for your system in the lower leagues they can score, I mean Grant Holt scored like 17/18 goals in a season, Steve Morison scored 10 despite being benched half the year
Players in the lower leagues can do it

They like Lallana and Lambert progressed through the leagues with one team Olly, it's a far easier transition when you're already integrated into a system at no extra cost.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Of course its the right player, but Ligue 1 is a better standard than The Championship in the decent sides especially, so they are more likely to perform.
And its also the type of player we're talking about. I think me and John are both talking about buying a very obviously good player on decent whack. Gomis is a clear standard step up from McCormack and Gomis is the level they should be looking. Rhodes looks like he'll cost about £10m, for example, clearly the best striker in that league, I wouldn't say I'm confident he'd score in the Prem.

Morison didn't HH but I do see your point
I think Newcastle could do a lot worse than pick up someone like McCormack alongside a Gomis, hed easily be the best striker there (if he signed today)

Here it is
I remember we put a bid in for Ravel back in January 2012, but was thankfully rejected. I know Pardew likes him, hope we don't fall into the trap & go back in for him.
Also, Liverpool’s latest signing is 'average'. That’s according to former Premier League striker and now Bundesliga TV pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft. He doesn’t think Emre Can will add anything to the Liverpool midfield. We shall wait & see ......
Also, rumours of Toni Kroos now being linked with Real Madrid.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Funnily enough, I think Ravel would have flourished further at Newcastle cos he would have played. Its when hes not played that hes a problem.
We're linked with Romeu now. Would love that but I can only see him going to Spain.
