He isn't terrible but he isn't great.
Must be annoyed that he can't get in ahead of a poor Evra and that United are after Shaw.
Also he put out some nonsense statement that he felt he should have had an international call up and that as LVG didn't give him one he won't play him at united so he should leave.

Good signing, think he became a little underrated because he looked a bit out of his depth at Manchester City. Great free transfer for them, especially as they managed to beat off teams that finished above them.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Every chance Olsson could leave this summer though. And if not, McAuley looked a bit shaky towards the end of the season and Craig Dawson hasn't really convinced either. Besides, you don't turn down the opportunity to sign a player of Lescott's quality on a free transfer.
Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Exactly. Be daft to say "sorry Joleon, you gotta wait until we've signed full backs. We have to do this in priority order!"

Great to see England's exit has warmed up the random rumour mill again. West Ham, QPR and Newcastle all now meant to be after Cech, whilst we're also going for Michu on Teddy Sheringham's advice.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Cech is far too good for those teams, I know he isn't the player he was when he first arrived in England but I still think he's a top goalkeeper who should be playing for one of the best sides in Europe. You would have thought the likes of Atletico and Real Madrid would all be interested if he is available and cheap as they could do with a new goalkeeper.

Exactly. We're not getting ruddy Cech either. He'll go somewhere that pays mental, Real, or more likely nowhere.

I'm not too fussed, I'd imagine he'll take Becchio's place on the bench and I'm not sure if it'll even be a permanent signing anyways

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Sky Sports are reporting that Bafetembi Gomis is in talks with Swansea as he is now a free agent. He scored 22 in 49 last year for Lyon, so has a decent pedigree. If he does sign then I expect more speculation about Bony and Michu's futures at the Liberty stadium.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
It makes sense. They were in talks with him last summer, like his agent suggested the closest team were, and they may well be flush soon. Bony could get big money and Michu, with a year on his contract, would represent decent business at about £6m. If they can get Gomis and Sigurdsson then its pretty decent work

Not seen it confirmed yet but seeing a few tweets that say Robben has said the following to a Dutch interviewer:
'The manager has made me an offer to go with him to England next season. I will consider it.'

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I know he`s a brilliant player but at 30/31, its just a short term move for LVG. Not sure why Robben would sacrifice more league titles, german cups & at least champs lge semis, for a move to a rebuilding United with no European football. Bayern look like losing Kroos, therefore I can't see them letting Robben go. If LVG uses this system at United, Depay looks a must over Shaw & cheaper
If Gomis goes to Swansea, NUFC are in big trouble & shows no ambition to go & get the player. Worrying.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
It'd very much be a short term move but VG himself is probably a short term troubleshooter style manager move. Come in, get CL football again, leave. Both would be 2 seasons tops.

If he did it wasn't on tv. Did say 'maybe van Gaal has a golden dick' though. Speaking of which, Louis was his usual reserved self in the press conference:Hero wrote:Not seen it confirmed yet but seeing a few tweets that say Robben has said the following to a Dutch interviewer:

Journalist asks Van Gaal about defensive football. Van Gaal responds: "You tell me your definition of attacking, since it's such a clever Q"
Van Gaal: "I'm asking you now... if you're asking me questions, I'm asking you questions now."

So I'm guessing that's another £30m out of the budget. Long term, three at the back then,

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Got no chance of getting robben and as good as he is, its time to build for the future, like signing Depay who looks to have the potential to become a brilliant player in the not too distant future.
Herera is a good signining. Very good player, technically gifted with good creativity, something we've lacked in about 6/7 seasons from midfield.
I expect Shaw to be finalised and announced once England return home from Brazil. Seems Utd are keeping quiet on their transfer business this summer and not letting anything slip on targets. Did not see this Herrera signing coming at all so won't believe any rumours until sky/bbc reports them.

I won't believe it 'til he's signed, sealed and delivered though.

What do you think of that Liam? I expect Strootman either in August or January. In terms of the wingbacks, not sure they would be as effective as we are seeing for Holland. I would have Depay over Shaw & Rafael is still a ?

It seems Shaw is sort of done now but would like Depay on top of that as well, can focus on him playing more forward.
Strootman should have been signed last year for just 12m but we passed up. I expect us to go in in Jan when he's returned from his injury. Would be the signing we've been crying out for since Keane left. Would love him.
Rafael came on leaps and bounds season before last and then regressed dramatically under Moyes. If Van Gaal can get him back to his form in Fergie's last year he'll be a very good player for us. Still need a cb however.

Quite pathetic really, both not signing a cm for 6 years and the signing of fellaini.

An official bid has gone in but southampton want 30m. Now they have their new coach and shaw returns from the world cup, i expect it to be finalised. It seems a pretty obvious signing tbh.

I've heard different. Initially he was pessimistic but I believe he has given the go ahead to make the signing. We'll see, allot can change and the window hasn't been opened yet but this has been consistently reported on and I think utd will cough up the cash and seal the deal when England return to the UK.

The papers are reporting that Koeman wants to keep Shaw and has upped the price.
In other news Arsenal have recieved 8-12m (depends where read) for Carlos Vela to cancel the buy back clause in his contract - 20% sell on fee if leaves before 2018

£40m they want for Shaw. Ridiculous. Not even that impressed by him. LVG system would suit Depay at OT, exciting attacking wing back.

Not seen much of Herrera play but from reports he seems to have been instrumental in Bilbao securing 4th place so must have some talent. In fairness I instantly trust LVG's judgement in the transfer market, he's been there and down it for numerous teams unlike he who shall not be named.
Only just put two and two together and realised that Daley Blind is the son of Danny, quality defender back in the 90's, the 4-1 drubbing against us aside.
