He's also one of the Dutch assistants, and he's taking over from Hiddink as manager after Euro 2016.Hammersmith harrier wrote:Only just put two and two together and realised that Daley Blind is the son of Danny, quality defender back in the 90's

tbh after reading reports of southampton wanting over 30 they can keep him i'm afraid. Blind/depay would be better signings and im pretty sure they'll be at OT next season anyway. Really happy with Herrera when it goes through. Always liked him and is the sort of creative midfielder we've needed. Him and Strootman (when he's eventually fit) will be an exciting partnership.

Don't know how reliable Jan Aage Fjortoft is when it comes to Twitter transfer news
Congratulations Manchester United fans. First player of this transfer window, First of many... #MUFC
As for Shaw, would still pay it. at 18 you can get 12-14 years out of him. I get that its a lot of money but prices are only going to get stupider and stupider and in that time we could buy 2 or 3 left backs and end up paying more in th long run. With Daley Blind that cross aside I don't think he looks anything special, the number of fouls he commits is worrying, just the other day he gave 7 away against the same player

RE Shaw: As a player who is blessed with physical attributes, he is only one cruciate ligament injury away from the scrapheap. Paying £30-£40mill for a player like this could end in disaster.

Well you'd never buy any players ever judging by that logic, anybody could be a cruciate ligament injury away from the scrapheapSoldier_Of_Fortune wrote:gazzyD wrote:Don't know how reliable Jan Aage Fjortoft is when it comes to Twitter transfer news

If I was Utd I'd still go for Shaw. Boy has serious talent, has positioning issues but at 18/19 they can be coached easily.
I agree Blind is nothing special. He's essentially the Dutch Phil Jones, versatile, not great in one position

Not necessarily, players who don't rely on there physical attributes and are technically proficient wouldn't be as effected.
Not sayin don't buy him, but paying over £30mill is a risk. Even Bale didn't go for that much.

Paying that amount of money is always a risk, but you outwiegh that with the reward and with Shaw the reward could be a world class LB for 12-15 years. More than worth it IMO.Soldier_Of_Fortune wrote:Not necessarily, players who don't rely on there physical attributes and are technically proficient wouldn't be as effected.

United will be happy to see a deal going in earlier, came out of nowhere as well. Is Herrerra the player Manchester United need though? Not sure where he does regularly play, but I was under the impression that's he more of an attacking midfielder than a deep-lying one but United are well stocked there.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Seems like the natural successor to Paul Scholes to me, already has 4 red cards and averages a booking every 3.5 games, very Scholes-esque :p
Seriously though I haven't seen him play (that I recall) but have heard some really postive things about him. If even half of some stuff I've heard is true then already an upgrade on Fellaini, Fletch, Clerverley (I haven't added Carrick as I'm hoping last year was a blip and he might be better this year)

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
He's a good player, technically very good & can pass the ball. Can play in the 10 role but easily able to play in a two in central midfield. I expect Strootman to play alongside him to give the strength & physicality in the United midfield, that Herrera is lacking.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
i'd offer somewhere near 25-30 mil for shaw if Southampton dont accept then leave it, shaw has already said he would like to leave, southampton arent in a good enough financial position to sit and risk keeping a unhappy player who's value may drop because he isnt playing aswell
on herrera, i havent really seen anything other than when they played us few years back and javi martinez, llorente and muniain stood out more, but that's not a bad sign all three are very good players

Shaw is a promising player but you'd think he was the next Cafu going by the pricetag.

Herrera has a good engine at CM too.
My only worry would be hes more in the good rather than great bracket, which is still an upgrade regardless.

andy carroll, jordon henderson, stuart downing, james milner, lescott all british talent that went for nearly 20mil plus at some point and i would argue shaw has more potential than all of them

Why the sudden assumption that LVG's Dutch system is how United will play?

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Your right, there is no guarantee LVG will implement this system but I think it would suit United actually. Get's Rooney in a striking role, instead of him constantly dropping back. Puts Mata in a central 10 role, Herrera playing alongside a Strootman type looks a good balance of strength, power & creativity. Signing Valencia to a new deal, might indicate he could play him as a right wing back. Shaw or a Depay to the left as the opposite wing back. It's certainly an option to play that way.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
If he's playing 3 centre backs though he'll have to sign at least two new ones as we only have Jones, Smalling and Evans

Risk/Reward, when does the value overlap into the risk column though.
I wouldn't want to spend more the £25mill, that would be risky but he is a talent.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Herrera is exceptionally good with vision and anticipating the movement of his teammates, he's someone who could unlock a defence with being a step ahead as long as those ahead of him also are on his wavelength so it's good he's an early purchase and has time to gel. He's got a good understanding with Mata already from their time together in the Spanish youth teams.
Weakness wise is his temperament and his pass rate, just over 80% which are areas he needs to improve upon.

Yeah, number of Portuguese sources stating Andre Villas-Boas' men have completed the signing of the Argentinian international from Benfica on a five-year deal. Dirt cheap is an understatement, wage will be astronomical, no doubt.

The United transfer machine just keeps getting more and more embarrassing, considering he was all but signed yesterday
Wondering if United wanted to pay in installments as opposed to up front. Pretty sure that was his buy out clause, assuming there is a loophole that clubs can use to reject if they don't see the money all at once

Buy out clauses don't work like that, it applies to Herrera himself, we need to pay him the money at which point he pays Bilbao to effectively become a free agent.

What he means is that the MINIMUM RELEASE FEE (not buy out clause) must be for all the money upfront otherwise cant be triggered. If the payments where to be staggered, they can reject.
Usually the minimum release fee will be way more then the actual value of the player.

they're two different things altogether, at no point are Bilbao bound to accept an offer, it's a buy out clause for the player and the player only.

All Spanish players have MIMINUM RELEASE FEES inserted in to there contract. Its manditory.
If PSG decide to bid 215mill release fee for Messi, Barcelona have got not choice but to allow the player to hold talks.
