The Best Fighters of your Generation
Who are the top 5 fighters of your generation?
For a boxer to qualify they have to be not more than 5 years older than you, and not more than 5 years younger than you.
Here are mine.
Manny Pacquiao
Nonito Donaire
Sergio Martinez
Juan Manual Marquez
Oscar De la Hoya

You have no idea how old he is, if he's 150 then he can safely say he was around for all those fighters' careers.

Anyway, the real question is why D4, a 30+ year old man, has such an obsession with Manny.

With Marquez being 38 that would make you at least 33 then D4?
I can't be bothered to look up the fighters ages, for me they'd need to be between 25 and 35, I'd hazard a guess at Pacquiao, mayweather, Martinez, morales and Oscar. I'd say Barrera but I think he's too old.

Re: The Best Fighters of your Generation
Not that many fighters born between 1983 and 1993 have established themselves as 'great' yet D4, so I think I'll simply just offer up my top five pound for pound of all time.
1. Manny Pacquiao (world titles in eight divisions)
2. Oscar De la Hoya (world titles in six divisions)
3. Thomas Hearns (world titles in five divisions)
4. Ray Leonard (world titles in five divisions....Apparently)
5. (tied) Roberto Duran, Pernell Whitaker, Roy Jones Jr (world titles in four divisions)
You've taught me well, D4.

Ha !
I feel it, sometimes. Then again, a beautiful day like today, my long suffering wife, who indulges my whims, and you lot here at 606v2 ( most of the time, anyway, ) can also make me feel like a youngster again.

Re: The Best Fighters of your Generation
There is not many fighters that fit within my age criteria so i'm gonna post the top five fighters that have been active since i've been a keen follower of boxing.
IN ORDER:
1. Floyd Mayweather - Best all round boxing abilty i've seen since SRL.
2. Manny Pacquaio - Not the most skilled but makes up with pure excitement.
3. Bernard Hopkins - Veteran of the sweet science.
4. Ronald Winky Wright - Didn't get the breaks he deserved in his prime due to his style, he was feared for a reason, extremely capable boxer.
5. Vitali Klitschko - Utterly dominant and doesn't get enough credit. He always comes to fight despite the stigma of the boring Klit style.

My top 5, random order
Roy Jones jr, rose from MW to HW so must mean he's great
DLH, rose from SFW to MW so must mean he's great
Toney, rose from MW to HW so must mean he's great
FMJ, rose from SFW to LMW so must mean he's great
JMM, rose from FW to WW so must mean he's great
Again i'm basing that on D4s wonderful ranking system. I'm sure the oracle of rating systems aka boxrec, agrees with me too.

Very true Geoff, but I feel his cat always imposed stipulations for his own advantage. The dog is a real fighter and does no such things.

Is it not equally as possible everyone has read the rules, understood them perfectly and then chose to ignore them, viewing the thread as nothing more than a tenuous attempt to mention Manny, for a change.

D4 am I being cynical in thinking this thread was simply a way of letting everyone know that floyd meets the criteria to be on your list, but that you don't consider him to be one of the greatest fighters of his generation and are putting Marquez, Martinez ahead of him? Are you waiting for someone to say "how can you not have floyd on there D4??". Well I'm not gonna say it, and I'm pleased no-one else has.
