We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
First topic message reminder :
Well, as I started one for the Championship, it seems now is the time for the Premier League 2014/15 thread to begin!
We have all our teams, with Leicester, Burnley and QPR replacing Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich. Can City retain, can United break into the top four, how will Liverpool cope with Champions League football. All this and more can be discussed as we see how the transfers, the rumours, the World Cup and everything else make an impact on the Premier League before it all kicks off?
I'll open it up...the Telegraph, Sky Sports and others report Pochettino is top of Spurs' shortlist and could be unveiled in the next week. Thoughts? Sounds the perfect fit to me. Some suggesting he'll bring Rodriguez with him, although that sounds like immediate clutching to me.

They'll appeal for the same reason they've been trying to protect him. Can't imagine it'll change much, the evidence is clear.

Probably fair shout.
I'd suspect Liverpool will keep him now. Although if they could get anywhere near £70m they should take it.

Much like the straw that breaks the camels back, everyone has a limit. If Real or Barca stick in a decent bid I suspect he'll be off.
Ultimately he misses around 10 games a season due to suspensions, he clearly doesn't show any sign of improvement.

"The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC."
He can't sign for anyone by the looks of things either.

Well they did OK waiting til October last year.
4 months?
June (prob only 1 more game anyway)
July nada bar pre season games
August Some back end
September (International breaks anyway)
October
Hmm, not enough my opinion.
Will Liverpool sell? Football ability-wise they'd be daft to but it's whether they've had enough of the baggage. He might demand to go to get away from the press.

Its does state anything administrative, which would include transfering clubs. Not sure he will ruffle FIFA's feathers trying to look for loop holes. Also where is he going to sign his contract? In the clubs car park? And will Real and Barca pay 70mill plus for a player who can't officially kick a ball until Nov?
Really doubt it Swanny.

Hi,
A bit more positive this season from the boards palace fan.. top 14 must be our goal.
Hopefully bring in a couple of half decent players and Gayle will be able to be utilsed playing a better brand of football.
I would take less than 11th but with more goals!!

Re: We Go Again! The 2014/15 Premier League Thread
ta Duty.
Not going to get into the international debate for a bit... It hurts .
I will admit to being wrong on two counts though,
I stated i would rather not have pulis and grind out staying in the PL.
I also stated i would rather england go out in the groups playing decent footy rather than grinding out defensive results.
I was very drunk watching the england games but it did seem that we had more of the play (more shots, more possession, more territory) over our counter parts in all 3 games.
Winning football is key.... I am a changed man..
Bar that good holiday.. Got a tan, great banter with other europeans, mexicans and yanks in Mexico- it was almost like being in a mini brazil tbh.

Well my Swans mid table again optimism has gone up a notch now 12 x capped French striker Gomis has signed from Lyon. If...if the club can keep hold of Bony, Michu (West ham Really?) a push for a top 10 spot is feasible..

Caulker to Palace
He's never been anything special, hence why Spurs got rid & why he's decided on Palace. That's about his level in the bottom half of the EPL. Slow & ponderous at times with Cardiff & didn't stand out.

dam better bet than your club mate. I feel for you I really do. If you continue that form you played out last half of the season without your french star you will be struggling to break derbys 11 pt season.

Yeah, just bought Siem De Jong & got Cabella + few more on the way. What happened last year was awful but things will be different, once the new season kicks off. Before Cabaye left, we were in the top 6 with ease, not saying we will be in & around there this year, but won't be far off. Just unfortunate circumstances last year post Xmas.
I'd be more worried about your club, than Newcastle, in terms of relegation. Caulker is pretty average, although I do hope you get Zaha back.

think newcastle will be alright, like last season see quite a few poor teams in the division. burnley just cant compete financially, WBA and villa look awful already. swansea will be massively weakend for me possibly losing there two best players and signing average championship players. then there quite a few others who will just want to stay in the division that newcastle will finish above, likes of the two promoted clubs, Sunderland etc

Exactly, the bottom half of the EPL ain't great, especially with the likes of Villa, Sunderland, Leicester, Burnley, WBA, QPR & Palace.......it's poor. Think people just remember the last five months of our season & just go, 'yep, their in trouble again'. Don' think it will pan out like that. We've got new recruits in & are in reset mode, there is no 'no-mans land' safety net, like last year, when we had significant gaps above & below us in the league, which led to complacency.
Fully expecting a top 10 finish.

You were top 6 - you out performed united by a long way- they stayed the same all year- you went from being top 6 to almost being the worst team in the league- which off course wasnt that rough as you were safe with almost 15 games to spare- but all the same.John wrote: Yeah, just bought Siem De Jong & got Cabella + few more on the way. You wont get relegated(you may struggle top 10 though- west ham, palace, hull even sunderland could seriously be competitive against you). palace could off course still get relegated!!! but its got to be said us palace fans are 1000000 times more positive at the start of this season.

West Ham are in all sorts of trouble this year in my professional opinion. Ten outfield players & a GK away from avoiding the dreaded drop.

I meant that in a positive way! As in you shouldn't worry. Cheeky swine!
Hard to call in some regards. Back five is nailed on Adrian, Demel, Reid, Tomkins, Cresswell.
Then probably Nobes and Kouyate deep two in midfield. Nolan probably keeps his spot, although I'd personally play Rav. Then we look to have Valencia, Downing, Jarvis, Zarate and Vaz Te (although I'd expect him to leave) battling for two wing slots. I imagine we'll play Downing over Jarvis as our out and out winger and then Valencia over Zarate as our wide striker. But that all depends on pre-season and training.
Carroll is nailed on and then Valencia plays if/when the big man is unfit.
Leaves us with a bench of Zarate, King Carlton, Jarvis, Morrison, Collins, Jussi and J'Ob with Poyet, Vaz Te, Diame in reserve and we're still looking for a young centre back, a apart left back and another central midfielder.
Our signings with Valencia average age of around 24 which is lovely.

Not bad a squad. Think this season really should be the phasing out process on Nolan but I doubt it will happen. Good decent options all-round, not too sure defensively though. Interesting to see this Kouyate in the middle & if Valencia is one of those WC mistakes. Of course, Carroll's fitness is pretty much key to the season.
