Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
First topic message reminder :
This **should** be the main article for the Fifa World Cup 2014 competition that happens in 10 days time. Lets try and keep the debate simple yet reasonable about all of the build-up, the stadiums, the countries, the players, the qualifying, the winners and most importantly, the "bought" 2022 World Cup.
Enjoy! (And... lets try and make this World Cup as good as possible considering all of the poor build-up, tragic deaths and he outrageous violence that has been happening over recent months)

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
I've been gone for the last 5 minutes of the first half up until now and I've missed this! No way! I had a feeling, a slight feeling Costa Rica would take something because I'm not convinced that Uruguay are good at the back at all. Godin is the rock, but that is all. But if Uruguay are that good, they will recover from this. Their midfield and defence is actually below average compared to their attack. But Costa Rica from what I've read, deserve this. Help their ranking points as well in the process.
Joel Campbell looks a really good player. I'll be very surprised if Wenger doesn't take him on next season, very surprised. Been good in the Champions League, is a versatile forward, got a good long shot, good at dribbling and can take defenders away. Just lacks little bit of consistent finishing quality and composure but that should come with age and training repeatedly. He will either flop at Arsenal and join a mid-table club at a big European division or be successful at Arsenal. He does look good.
Uruguay are just very unconvincing at all aspects of defending, set pieces or just in general play. They have run out of ideas in this game and are really struggling to break Costa Rica down again. They don't deserve anything. All one way football from Uruguay. But this will really help England and Italy, if they beat Costa Rica, Uruguay are out and maybe bottom.
I also noticed Suarez is suddenly losing his injury as well warming up a couple of times

Whoever said 3-1 was worth a bet. Salute!
Brilliant prediction. Fantastic ball from Campbell (proves my point about his adaptability), and a really good finish from a really tight angle. Fabulous goal from Urena and brilliant ball from Campbell. They have struggled to deal with him, Uruguay are in trouble in this group.
I'm sorry, but it is no more than they deserve. They have battled and battled in this game and they have got 3 goals and 3 points they deserve. Fantastic display!
If England and Italy can find a player like Joel Campbell tonight, they will beat Uruguay and I can see them finishing on 0 points imo. Barkley the player to do it for Italy. Not sure about Italy but Immobile seems like a suitable option for Italy to do the damage.
No question now, if Joel Campbell gets a good amount of opportunities and game time at Arsenal, with consistent performances like the one tonight, he is the next big thing at Arsenal.

Well done Costa Rica.
From a footballing perspective, I'm absolutely delighted to see Uruguay beaten. They might go out on Thursday as well!

Balotelli is going to get a red for eating a big section of a goalpost, thus distabilising it and delaying the start of the second half. I've put 10 grand on it.

I'm not going to be @rsed to stay up for it but just checked the odds and I can't quite believe England are such strong favourites. Italy at 11/5 strikes me as a decent punt. I won't lump on as I fear the 0-0 but definitely going to have a little piece of it!

A shame that a few moments of poor defending let us down, but we played very well, just lacked that final ball/finish
Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge the standout performers for me
Attack like that against Uruguay and we'll win
