Re: Amnesia or Arrogance?
Slip of the tongue maybe? There is a prominent NZ politician called Michael Laws, maybe he just got mixed up. No harm done, is there?

Keep stirring Rainbow
I can imagine Lawes hitting a ruck with Retallick in it at full force screaming "My name's Courtney, b*tch!" only for the All Blacks to crack up laughing when the whistle blows.
Ah, girl's name juvenile humour.
Though both sets of locks will have to be on their game as all of them are world class who could well show their opposites up.

They are 'Kiwi' names though. Certainly more indigneous location names than Carter, McCaw, Barrett, Cruden and........... em Retallick

Rotorua, Whakatane, Whangarei are more Kiwi than Christchurch, Canterbury? Let's face it, NZ is made up from migrants from both the UK and Polynesia to name but a few. They're all exotic names.

Bring back the days when locks had real men's names like Bakkies Botha, Brad Thorn and John Eales.
Now it's Brodie, Devon and Courtney ....

At least it wasn't Wales touring. 606 wouldn't be able to handle another Shane who? incident.

I just don't think new zealand players follow northern hemisphere rugby much apart from when they want retire there in their last few seasons of playing. We idolise anything coming out of the SH and build them up too much when they spend their efforts focussing on their own game.

Shane Ramsay is more familiar.
To be fair to Retallick, I don't think he could name many in the Bokke pack either. Or at least spell them.

Gotta admit my ignorance this season then 'cause to be very honest Brodie Retallick wouldn't be the first name, the second one or third one off my tongue if asked to name some of the AB squad!

Too much available memory involved in remembering how to spell his own name?

Bet you don't know any of the Australian locks named this week either Fly.
Lostinwales he doesn't need memory for that. His name and address are always written on the inside of his underwear. That's why he calls it his lucky underwear. With that he's able to go home each night.

Does he ever get into trouble for staring at the labels in a public place?

No, because he wears them on the outside of his trousers. His mother made him a cape so he wouldn't get picked on but given his size I think she was just playing it safe.

I would imagine NZ have been doing some homework on our players though, finding out weaknesses etc so i'm sure he just "had a moment"

All good Polynesian names. Manu Samoa's virtually another NZ side anyway. Certainly as kiwi as Barrett, Smith.
I'm waiting for your stinging criticism of the players with English surnames like James, Lee, Shingler, North being included in the Welsh side. Obviously you'll have issues with Cuthbert, Roberts and Falatau as well.

Hardly a great defence is it, none of them names originate from New Zealand .
You do know that Welsh was the spoken language of the entire Island of Briton don't you!! Wales itself being populated for some 30,000 years:) to try and compare names with a country who has some significant history with the names I used as examples is clutching at straws. I also suggest that if you are going to do that take into consideration that Welsh is a 'pure' language opposed to English which is not.
P.S. Jones is not a Welsh name but I bet you thought it was didn't ya.

Every country has history, rainbow.... every country. It's just that some of it gets written down and some of it gets forgotten. Books don't denote how 'historic' 30,000 years might be - or how 'significant'. Australia has been inhabited for around 50,000 years but I reckon 'significant' history only started there when the book men from Europe landed there - right?

Which is another way of saying that English is evolving and Welsh is a sort of living fossil...

So what's the 'pure' Welsh (which is a subset of Celtic) word for
Television
Microwave
x-ray
jet aircraft
air-conditioning
etc etc etc

Trailape stop that! You know Ancient Welsh people, living alone on the British Isles by themselves 30,000 years ago, didn't have enough money for Televisions and air-conditioning and things! Times was tough then for jobs so stop messing.

just a gentle joke.
We folk on these islands of NW Europe are as mongrel as they come, successive waves of immigration over thousands of years and then you shake it up with the advent of the Industrial Revolution and rail travel.
Just where did all of those thousands of people who worked in the south wales coalfields come from - given that Wales was a mainly rural economy and just didn't have a spare 300,000 bods just lying about doing nowt.
Same for my neck of the woods - Northumberland and Durham very rural, then suddenly dozens of pit villages springing up all over the shop in a matter of a few years
Immigrants from other parts of the UK, that's where, Ireland, Scotland and the Midlands of England.
'Pure' my arse!

Further afield too. Hence lots of italian ice cream in Wales and Welsh surnames like Sidoli. One friend we have has a Polish ancestor who was in Swansea.

Re: Amnesia or Arrogance?
All true to an extent Trailape. And I was just joking too.
But gotta say that's a new wave of thought though (your mongrel points) for a new modern age.
There weren't much 'mongrelisation' ideas going round in the bad old days of either Royalty, Dictatorship, Empires and Kingdoms - when certain folks throughout Europe at different times in history thought they were racially purer than other folks, and so invaded those 'lesser' folks, took their land, banned their language, burned their churches and sneered the living daylights out of what remained.
In other words, the term "United" as it relates to a word like Kingdom is a relative term in an historical sense. Just saying

TrailApe - Microwave is generally know as Popty-Ping in welsh, translating to Bakery-Ping.
-edit- not really relevant to the argument at all, just one of those words that seem to be used quite regularly by the non-welsh speaking welsh folks, bit like Dioch or Iechydd Da.
