Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
First topic message reminder :
Tbf this isn't the same Costa that's been playing for Atletico, a long hard season and a few injuries catching up with him here I thinkowen10ozzy wrote:Diego Costa for £32 million isn't looking to hot either...Chelsea could be looking at the 3 most expensive striker flops in history in Shevchenko, Torres and now Costa.
He lacks pace and mobility which for me are essential in the premiership.

If US lose 2-0, Portugal have to win 3-0, hardly mission impossible.

If US lose and Ghana win pretty much Ghana go through and judging by Portugal's performances so far...kingraf wrote:If US lose 2-0, Portugal have to win 3-0, hardly mission impossible.

Unless Germany decide a draw is enough (way better GD), I think they beat US, with some to spare. But I just don't know who wins between Portugal and Ghana

Judging from what I've seen I'd fancy Ghana, Portugal has a huge problem with tracking full backs and if Bento persists with Veloso/Meireles over Carvalho (notice how the US attacks dried up once Carvalho came on) then Ghana will have a field daykingraf wrote:Unless Germany decide a draw is enough (way better GD), I think they beat US, with some to spare. Neither can I, but I can see a German team looking to get back on track putting US to the sword.

Ah man what a game that was though, the emotions of football encapsulated in one game, and it all ends in a draw, something which many NFL people I follow are struggling to get over

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
Recorded the game last night.
Saw the score, so just forward onto the goals this morning.
That second Portugal goal couldn't have come any later, what 5 seconds after the restart the game was over. Real shame.
No surprise that Bradley gave the ball away.
We had him on loan few years ago, poor player.
Dont think they will get anything against Germany, so hoping Ghana/Portugal draw.
Great support fron the US again.

He also managed to miss from five yards out where all he had to do was not hit it straight at the falling defender on the line

think i'll be going 0-0 in that one
dont know what to expect from the spain game today, will they have given up which if its the case expect Australia to beat them or will a younger fresher team be out to prove a point. holland v chile should be a good game, neither great defensively but both like going forward

The only reason I don't think Australia will win is Cahill's suspension.compelling and rich wrote:dont know what to expect from the spain game today, will they have given up which if its the case expect Australia to beat them or will a younger fresher team be out to prove a point.

Thing is, the majority of this German squad are part of the Munich side that cruised to the league, effectively by December. They will know first hand the effects/dangers in phoning in a few performances, before having to step it up a gear... they might not play at full tilt, but I can't believe they won't mind stepping into the knockouts with back to back draws

Could have done with the auatralia/Spain & Holland/Chilie games being at 9.
Will miss then as they are at 5.
No interest in tonights games.
Same with Uraguay/Italy, kick off 5, the 9 kick offs have no interest for me.

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
West why no interest in tonight?!
Group B already has the two who progress just up to who top's group...Chile vs Holland will be a decent game mind but I have more interest in Group A where Brazil could actually still go out and given how lacklustre they have been so far it's a possibility.
Croatia/Mexico to draw with Brazil slipping to a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon...may check the odds!

Cameroon are a divided mess of a side; I can't see them upsetting Brazil.
But I keep getting these bloody predictions wrong since England's loss to Uruguay!
Cameroon 0-2 Brazil
Croatia 2-1 Mexico
Holland 1-2 Chile (which Holland will turn up?)
Australia 1-3 Spain

I fancy it, Germany will go for a boring draw to seal their fate and in process Seal USA's fate in the right direction, when a draw is good for both team why would they kill each other?

Judging by Spanish performance so far I won't be surprised if its 1-0 for Aussies so
Cameron - Brazil 1-1 draw or 0-0 draw
Mexico 2-1 Croatia
Holland 2-1 Chile
Aus 1-0 Spain

Re: Rio de Janiero - 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread
Cameroon are so bad, no Eto'o or Song.....if that even matters anyway. Brazil will want to start gaining momentum now & starting to fine-tune their performance. Expect an easy Brazil win, once the first goal goes in, Cameroon heads will be thinking of the plane home. Brazil 3-0 Cameroon
The game of the day for me is Croatia vs Mexico. Got the feeling of a last 16 tie already, pure knockout & some good players on show. Croatia need win, expect Mexico to hit on counter late on. Mexico 2-1 Croatia
Holland vs Chile is incredibly tight to call. Heat plays into Chile hands, plus RVP & Martins Indi missing possibly. Chile to edge it 2-1 but really could end up an y result, it's that close a call.
Can see Spain destroying Australia & the players introduced making a point. Spain will have more energy & the passing will kill Australia legs. Spain by 2 or 3.

Dont have any interest in the teams, as much as the games.
Having said that I did enjoy the South Korea/Algeria game, from what I saw.
Would prefer to watch the 5 o'clock games than the ones on at 9.

The Dutch giving Chile a bit too much respect, but they do look dangerous on the counter...particularly through Robben.
And Spain are leading, I think.

Great finish by Villa in the AUS/spain match. Not the best defending I've ever seen from the Aussies though.
