Tbf this isn't the same Costa that's been playing for Atletico, a long hard season and a few injuries catching up with him here I think

Costa Rica 2 - England 5 (Hodgson to come off the bench, score a hat-trick, save a penalty and revive a player who swallows his tongue. The press to be very ashamed of the way they've treated him and Roy to behave with grace and dignity but FINALLY get rid of that f*cking stupid big watch he wears)

Roy Hodgson looks like a refined gentleman; a man who you would meet in a wine bar, a charming fellow who you could discuss politics and literature with.

Good old Roy Hodgson.

What do you mean he's asked Lampard to stay on with England? Oh for feck's sake.

You still haven't lost your hope on English team haven't u, even if Costa Rica play their B-Team and England play their A-Team it will be 1-0 or 2-0 in favor of Costa Rica and given the current situation it might be Costa Rica A- Team with confidence and England B-Team with aspirations, so most likely it would be 3-0, anything less than that England did a very good job given a mediocre team.

Seriously tell me that last sentence isn't true duty about Frank? He's also said we need another six years before we can achieve success. Yeah, it will be six+ years under your shambolic management, not somebody else's. Seriously, sack this clueless, tactically inept, conservative & defensive manager ASAP. Glad the media are banging the drum for his sacking.

We should be focusing on the future in this game, yet he gives Lampard another 'celebration for your services' cap. Embarrassing.

Uruguay 2-2 Italy
Costa Rica 3-0 England
Colombia 2-0 Japan
Greece 1-0 Ivory coast.

What do you mean he's asked Lampard to stay on with England? Oh for feck's sake.
You wait til Roy's back in England and he goes to a wine bar in Clitheroe and is met with a barrage of vile drunken abuse....he'll smile and say in a soothing voice "Young man (let's face it, most people will be young next to Roy), of course you're perfectly entitled to hold that point of view. I'm as saddened as you at how our world cup campaign panned out...however, I really don't feel there's any need for such agricultural language as a means of voicing your displeasure. No reasonable intelligent self-respecting man would behave like that and I'm sure that you are indeed a reasonable, intelligent self respect man so, one gentleman to another, please refrain from speaking to me like that."

Or he'll let out a bestial howl, rip his shirt off and then beat the thug to death with his own spleen

I'll cut Brazil some slack for looking 'ordinary'. They're at home and that alone creates a lot of pressure. Add to that, they're expected to do well just because they're Brazil, the greatest nation in World Cup history and they're expected to play free flowing, exciting football every game. It's hard to live up to those expectations.

If England had won their group scoring seven goals and conceding two, English people would be getting excited and saying how this is our year.

Well the English invented the f*cking game and we're expected to win every tournament yet no-one cuts us any slack. Even when we're expected to be sh*t and then we are sh*t we're still criticized for being sh*tter than people expected thus somehow making a disappointing World Cup even worse for people who, it appears walk around expecting everything to be sh*t all the time but somehow hoping it isn't (even though it probably will be)

Can't please some folk...and if you did, they wouldn't enjoy it as they'd be too busy waiting for the next bit of sh*tness to come along!

So nobody apart from several million people? Far too much pressure....

"I want then to win, I hope they win, they probably won't win but I'll still call 'em sh*t when they do exactly that!"

I don't.

But I expect them to battle to the last 16 or 1/4 finals as a minimum.

This team lacked aggression, ability to play under pressure and basic skills when it mattered.

This is why he came out of retirement!

I, for once, didn't expect England to battle. That wasn't the direction this team was heading in. I expected nothing. Really didnt. I thought we'd score against all the teams in our group, and that can still happen, and I thought we would show some attacking intent, and we have. From there, this was a World Cup in a cycle, not ending it.

If Gerrard and Lampard retire, who becomes the most senior player in the team? My guess is Rooney but he's no captain material and I can honestly see him retiring seeing as the fans don't want him.

Pretty flat game. Costa Rica are not great. Wilshere/Barkley giving ball away. Lampard anonymous.

Gary Cahill I imagine, the more you look at the squad the worse it looks, our young players who aren't even that young are nothing special and too injury prone.

Typical type of game where no one cares. For captain after Gerrard I'd give it to Joe Hart tbh.

I will say however that the refereeing in our games has been awful, so many decisions gone against us especially the Uruguay game.

Indeed, should've been a pen and a red card for that tackle on Sturridge.

Average first half, England just shaded it, although Costa Rica hit the bar. Barkley just isn't ready for this level, gives it away constantly. Sturridge not putting chances away either, sums it up for us this tournament.

Once again, we show we can't defend from opposition goal kicks right on 45 mins.

Barkley has been poor in terms of his ball retention; would like to see Sterling come on and play in that role in 2nd half.

Wilshere hasn't been great but what he has done is pressure the ball in the midfield; something we failed to do in our previous two games to our detriment (mainly because we played 2 holding midfielders whom were sat near the 18 yard box by time they started to close ball down)..

Also think the actual play through the middle has been a lot better and more swift; been few moments of nice interchanging balls between Lallana, Barkley & Wilshere which is what I want to see and again something we have been crying out for.

Not sure what it is with Lamps & Gerrard playing hollywood passes!!! So frustrating seeing them overhit a 50 yd pass which just keeps on going with no one able to get to it.

Whilst we haven't been great in terms of our final ball we have been patient and worked our way up through the back which I like...think we have looked more confident on the ball in our own half and that's encouraging.

Want to see Sterling & Ox (is he fit?!) in this half..Milner off and Barkley off...also throw Lambert on in final 20 the man deserves it after the season he had.

Been terrible. Surely not the long term no.9 option? Barkley has been shocking. This has been such a flat performance, thought Roy would of got something or a reaction out of them. Lallana does nothing for me, pretty to watch his play but nothing incisive. We need pace.

Been terrible. Surely not the long term no.9 option? Barkley has been shocking. This has been such a flat performance, thought Roy would of got something or a reaction out of them. Lallana does nothing for me, pretty to watch his play but nothing incisive. We need pace.

funny thing is rooney a better 9 than 10, he's been like that for a while. people simply thing he's a 10 because he runs round a bit, since the 09/10 season we've always had the best out of him when played in the 9 role. hence why we were so poor this season with rvp and him playing together

compelling and rich

Sturridge has proven he is a very average player without playing alongside Suarez.

Honestly except for some die hard 10% of English fans rest of the population would have given zero chance to England anyways.

Two more years to enjoy it.

Flat as a pancake performance against an average Costa Rica side. Not sure where we go from here.......
