Wimbledon Day 2
Centre Court
Julia Glushko v Sabine Lisicki [19]
Martin Klizan v Rafael Nadal [2]
Serena Williams [1] v Anna Tatishvili (USA)
No.1 Court
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA) [14] vs Jurgen Melzer (AUT) To Finish 6-1 3-6 3-6 6-2 *5-4
Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) v Roger Federer (SUI) [4]
Samantha Murray (GBR) v Maria Sharapova (RUS) [5]
Daniela Hantuchova (SVK) v Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [13]
No.2 Court
Stan Wawrinka (SUI) [5] v Joao Sousa (POR)
Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) [4] vs Andreea Mitu (ROU) To Finish 4-2
Milos Raonic (CAN) [8] v Matthew Ebden (AUS)
Angelique Kerber (GER) [9] v Urszula Radwanska (POL)
Kaia Kanepi (EST) v Jelena Jankovic (SRB) [7]
Day 2! After Dandy Andy and Djokovic's wins yesterday, today the 2nd and 4th seeds step up to the plate looking to get further than and match last year's dismal performances respectively. Away from the biggest names however, we also have the number 5 seed in action and everybody's favourite left-handed Spaniard F. Lopez looking to win yet another grass court match this year.
"Upsets?", I hear you ask. Well Granollers v Mahut should really be a no contest with Mahut a grass court specialist and Granollers just being terrible. On the women's side Caroline Garcia and Sara Errani are poised at one set apiece and if the French player plays well she should beat the clay courter. A couple of grass courters could spring a surprise v their seeded opponent: Daniela Hantuchova is playing Eugenie Bouchard (although the Canadian is my pick to win the tournament) and Tamira Paszek is playing last year's semi-finalist Kirsten Flipkens. Last but not least, Heather Watson will be looking to spring a mini-surprise on Tomljanovic but grass is Heather's worst surface (IMO) and I don't see it.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
I would give Heather a chance, she had some good wins last week and is full of confidence at the moment.
Am I the only one who was really surprised they interrupted the Tsonga match last night? It wasn't really all that dark, Tsonga about to serve to close it out, and usually they only stop on an even number of games in any case.

Think grass is probably Heather's best surface. It gives her shots that bit of extra pop and her compact swings work well. She looked good at Eastbourne until running into Madison Keys who just over-powered her. 50-50 match.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
I think clay should be her best surface. She moves great and although she doesn't have oodles of power on her groundstrokes, one should look at Errani as someone with no weapons whatsoever but who does very well on clay.
It's a battle of the age old question: What's better on grass - excellent movement and little power or limited movement and tons of power? The first scenario gives the small person the chance to chase more balls down and aid their ground strokes but the other option gives the player the opportunity to bludgeon winners.

Turns out it was rain and not light which disrupted play.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
Nadal somehow saves 3 break points (or rather Klizan squanders 2 of them) in the first game.

Klizan needs to be careful and not try to batter Nadal off the court just yet. Get a feel into the match, man!

I've found that with a few female tennis players.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
Nadal is not going to like this opponent Klizan, a big powerful leftie something similar to him, its like Nadal tasting his own flavor , the only question is how long will the taste of the flavor continue.

Nadal panicked on break point with a double fault, thats how good Klizan played this game from 30-0.

Lorenzi now has a GS record of 0-13. The second best, or worst, in history.

This is how you play Nadal. Take it to him - hit hard and flat.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
Oh Boy oh Boy Nadal looks completely one dimensional on grass , he is playing the same backhand technique which is actual the forehand of Klizan [as he being the leftie] and Klizan punishing it to take the first set from 0-30.
For a hunk like Klizan his girl friend is complete opposite, but she is very aggressive and intensive on every point Klizan won.

I wouldn't worry about Rafa just yet. I cannot see Klizan being able to keep up this level of intensity and physicality. Klizan leads 6-4 0-1.

Oh Klizan slips, this is the problem if you are not a natural grass court player.

Klizan was so nervous that he failed to convert 3 break points, now its a test not to give one on his own.

Gasquet cruising since my last post, won 10 out of the last 11 games.
Watson just a game away from victory, leading 6-3 5-1.

As I suspected Nadal is now getting on top. Klizan just cannot keep up the level he was at.

Thats an over exaggerated statement, how about we can say in 2015 French Open Nadal yet to win a set since 2014 FO Finals?
This guys just lost a game to an inspired opponent last year, today we had an opponent who kept questioning himself on the 4th set why am i here and what am i doing.

Re: Wimbledon Day 2
Good win for Nadal. Klizan's level just dipped slightly in the 2nd and like all great players he sensed that and ramped up the pressure. Rosol next and if he escapes that then he'll be fancied to get to the SFs.
