Wimbledon Day 3
Where does the time go? It seems like it was only yesterday that it was Wimbledon day 2.
Will Murray get Blazed by the heavy Rola?

It should be a straight-forward match for Andy today. I won't get to see it but will be surprised if Rola takes a set and it will set the alarm bells ringing no doubt.

I expect a straight sets crushing. The man's lost to James Ward twice in the last month!!
Too early in the morning for me to be cracking jokes JHM.

The man who drives the fastest milk cart on the tour is a break down to Stakhovsky in the first set (Sergiy will serve for it at least).

No disrespect to James Ward but Ouch! I think Rola will probably enjoy the moment and the occasion of playing in CC. He's not out to prove anything neither has he pressure to perform.

Poor Wardy I can forgive the grass defeat because Rola hadn't played on it before but one was on clay which is apparently his favourite surface!!

Ernie's (Ernie!) gone so that makes Berdych's life easier until he is once again taken apart by Novak on grass.

Wow! Stakhovsky gets anothe good result at SW19! Berdych must be pleased indeed!
Does this pigeon hole Gulbis into a 'clay court specialist' category? I know he had a good result vs Berdych in 2012 here but considering his form over the last month, I expected better!

I expected Gulbis to do better, but too many errors and no passing shots worth anything.
Stakhovsky stuck to his now-famous W plan of S&V and did well.

I don't know where to bracket Gulbis, FF. I would perhaps say "any-courter" rather than "all-courter" because on his day he can turn up and batter you any time, anywhere but likewise you can turn up and batter him.

Fognini 2-6, 1-2 down to the world no 251. What a Puetz.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
I think Gulbis struggles on Grass if only because of his extreme takeback on the FH side, which means that with the slightly skiddier bounce (particularly from someone like Stakhovsky who hits very flat) he's always going to be a little bit rushed.

Murray turning on the style here, first set he sort of let Rola beat himself, but since then Murray has just stepped up a gear and is playing Rola off the court. Admittedly there will be tougher tests to come, but Murray's looked very good so far.

Would appreciate a Fognini comeback so Murray can embarrass him on Centre Court.

Just like yesterday and Djokovic, it doesn't really mean much at all, especially as Rola had never played on grass before this year!! Thought Murray's serve today was rather ordinary but the groundies looked in fine fettle.

Haha, didn't get to watch it but sounds like an impressive performance, no let up at all for once either. Sounds like his first serve could improve but hopefully that will come over the course of the tournament. For now, well done Murray, thank you for giving us something to cheer about

In other news, ESPN can't seem to drop the whole British men at Wimbledon history, even after Murray won it last year they still manage to get it in
"Murray trounced the 92nd-ranked Slovenian 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 on Court 1 in a commanding performance as he seeks to become the first British player to retain the Wimbledon crown in 77 years."

Lets assume Murray wins it, BBC will sprout headlines next year as "Murray seeks to become the first ever British player to win hat trick of titles at Wimbledon".

Tomic isn't making Berdych's life easy.
In 2011 Tomic lost to Djokovic at Wimbledon QF, 7-5 in 4th set.

Daveed is making a meal of things against (Andrey) Kuznetosov. Ferrer won the first on a TB, was bagelled in the next, won the 3rd 6-3 and is now 4-1* down in the 4th!! Grigor must be loving it.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see if Tommy "The Machine Gun" Tank Engine has enough ammo in the tank or whether he'll run out of steam, considering his lack of tennis this year. Certainly has the talent to beat almost anyone. But yeah, not much tennis this year, so mentally as well as physically its unlikely he'll be as good as his 2011 level.

Wow I never knew Fred Perry wont hat trick of titles @ SW19 but yea then the media will add the following "in modern championships".
If Murray goes on to win 2015 too then
in 2016 , "Murray seeks to tie Sampras record of winning 4 Wimbledon in a row" .
n if he wins 2016, then
in 2017 "Murray seeks to make history be winning 5 Wimbledon in a row" and in a small writing below the article they will mention Fed and Borg's name.
n if he wins 2017 then
in 2018 "Murray seeks to make the World record for maximum consecutive Wimbledon championships"
n if he wins 2018 then
in 2019 "Murray seeks to equal all time record of winning 7 Wimbledon title and consecutively"
n if he wins 2019 then
in 2020 "Murray sets his aspirations to become the greatest player of all time, going for his 8th consecutive Wimbledon title" , by that time media would have convinced the fans and people that Murray is the undisputed GOAT of Tennis.
Whoever the inventor of media marketing strategy have to take this blame, such pathetic is the state of media that for popularity they are ready to do any nonsense.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
Kuznetsov beats Ferrer. He looked pretty good in R1 against Dan Evans, and he's just knocked out Ferrer in R2 in five sets, fantastic performance
anyone know what this guy's story is, he looks too good a player to be hovering outside the world's top 100...
that puts a stop to Ferrer's run of consecutive GS QFs (I think it was 13 or so).

Its impressive how clutch Berdych is. We have this image of him falling away in matches vs Nadal and Djokovic (although he beat Djokovic here in 2010), but he's generally a clutch player. And to beat Federer at Wimbledon you have to be at least decent mentally.

Re: Wimbledon Day 3
If anyone wants an example of why I think Novak's slam-winning days are over, that tie break is a good one.
He gets to 5-2 and then plays the most tedious, cautious, predictable, passive tennis and loses it 7-5.
In fairness, Stepanek has been very good but Novak's performance has been very uninspired. Good serving but not much else.
