But £30m for Shaw is car azy.
That much for an 18 year old.
PSG did the same thing last year. But, you know it's ok because United do things the "right" way.
Remind me where are money comes from?
I don't know. You're in massive debt and didn't qualify for Europe. Where did it come from?

He is better then Evra now (current version). I think 30mill is a lot of money for a 18 yr old full back.

It's not an awful amount. Add English tax (you have to) he's likely to be their full back for a long time. He's probably good enough to be first choice now, which is pretty impressive considering he could then be that for 10-15 years

stop piping on about serious injury or cruciate ligaments. If everyone was this worried, no transfers would be done.

30 mil for an 18 year old with 1 years worth of epl experience. Will either turn out to be a rooney type move or an andy carrol type move.

I reckon he'll be eased in. Evra is still a decent player and will be worth playing for a decent chunk of games

Shaw is a good player but it's just the price that's crazy. Southampton have some good English players but they get over-rated due to the novelty of a PL team full of young English talent.
You had people putting both Lallana and Shaw in the PL team of the season for instance (ahead of the likes of Silva and Azpilicueta).

Curse of the English. I can only imagine RAWK are slapping a £50m price tag on Flanagan.
But considering Southampton don't want to sell, he's young, English and has just played in the World Cup I guess it isn't too surprising that it's £30m.

You'd imagine Utd will deal with him like they did with De Gea, with a fairly capable experienced player to share the workload and help ease him in

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I don't think 30m is that bad tbh. He's already a good player at just 18, has everything to become a top class left back at only 18, and (barring serious injury that SOF keeps harping on about, almost as if he wishes it upon him to prove his point) he will be our and probably england's first choice left back for 10-15 years. When you look at it that way, its not a massive price to pay in my book.

It's a ridiculous amount, 2nd most expensive fullback ever and one of the most expensive defenders ever and not the finished product, literally no guarantee he will ever be good enough to be first choice for us. Never mind world class.

i'd bet my left nut that the deal is structured like the rooney deal was, we always have in the big british deals for young players. we'll end up paying the full fee im sure but that only means that shaw has performed to expectations

25 million is a lot but then you could argue Lallana is more proven is some ways. Still a lot regardless when you consider that's only £7 million less than Barca payed for Fabregas...or same as Real paid for Beckham...or £13 mil more than Utd paid for Ronaldo ...
Anyhow you get my point; sadly that's the way with English players...yet FA refuse to do believe that there is a problem with no players coming through of World Class ability...(they must not else more would be done to give English players opportunities in Premier League)...they must look at inflated prices like this and think...wow we have loads of world class players what are people on about!!
Glen Johnson 18 mill
Stwart Downing 20 mil
Darrent Bent 24 mil
James Milner 26 mil
Joleon Lescott 22mil
Wright Phillips 21 mil
Oh dear lord its frightening! Great link for anyone wanting to see the 100 most expensive transfers as of Jan 2014 and the inflation values!
http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-articles/100-expensive-premier-league-transfer-fees-includes-5-newcastle-buys/
Anyhow...Koeman must be rubbing his hands near £60 million to spend (unless they don't let him use it of course)...goes abroad after selling 3 English players and brings in 6/7 proven players and shrinks the pool of English players in the Premiership even further! Woohoo bring on 2016 and that world cup win in 2022!!

never been a huge fan of lallana, yes, technically good but just think alot of media got carried away with him & then people jumped on the bandwagon for england. thought he was average in the WC, few neat turns & passing but he's never worth £25m at his age. BR already panicking with life after suarez....

£25m for Lallana is a bigger joke as £30m for Shaw.
At least Shaw has the youth and can improve.
Would be better of getting someone like Arnautovic.

Arsenal might be keen but Southampton are having a closing down sale but for ridiculous prices. Wenger will be put off.
Snodgrass for £7m is that Olly? Can see why we weren't interested.

Snodgrass is 7m rising to 8m. I like him but that's wayyyy too much and he's only got a year left on his deal so we probably would've sold for a reasonable price.
But hey when has Steve Bruce ever cared about overpaying for a player

I do love Brucey. Snoddy for £8m makes Lallana look a snip!
But, seriously, that Lallana price is mad. Coutinho was apparently £8.5m. Let that sink in. I like Lallana, but its a hell of a price.
And what if he were to get seriously injured?! (Or more likely, considering the destination, bite someone)

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Rumours out of Madrid are suggesting Cristiano Ronaldo has asked Real Madrid to cancel the pending transfer of AS Monaco's Radamel Falcao.
Seems a rather odd rumour considering CR7 and El Tigre are close friends.
Anyway as present AS Monaco and Real Madrid haven't agreed a fee. Madrid's €40m opening bid was dismissed.
I'd expect AS Monaco would want around the €50-58m they paid Atletico last summer.

Weird thing about certain players. Neymar looks the only player capable of doing anything good for Brazil (bar Oscar) but is still stuck with this overrated tag because thats the narrative many have for him.
I'd prefer Madrid's front three (I dont think Benzema and Falcao play in the same team.)

Its pretty equal.
Suarez edges out Bale
Ronaldo edges out Messi
I'd have Falcao slightly ahead of Neymar at this point, Neymar suffers when hes not the focal point.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Maybe English players don't play abroad because of their ridiculous price tags?
£25 million for Lallana, a player who's probably reached the ceiling in terms of ability, and is good rather than great. That's about £10-15 million too much.
And £27 million for Shaw, a player who is more about his potential than any actual proven class, is taking the biscuit.
Why buy an Englishman when you can get a foreign player at much, much better value?

there are a few benefits to buying home grown talent, there more likely to stick around for a lot longer and not want to move back abroad like a tevez and ronaldo did. look at the rooney and rio deals to see that if there good enough its worth while buying good english talent. but the markets gone crazy when the likes of downing, carrol, henderson and now lallana are all going for 20mil plus. none of them were particularity brilliant in the first place!

Taking transfer inflation into account you can work out the £18m we got for Rio all those years ago is the equivalent to £46m in today's market.

It's a two edged sword, you pay more for English talent in the knowledge they know the league well or you go abroad for somebody who may or may not adapt to the pace of the premier league. As has already been mentioned an English player is also less likely to want to move after a few years so is a more secure long term investment.
That said it was only 9 years ago that we paid £5mil for Evra, what a steal that looks now.

Lallana is a poor deal for liverpool for a couple of reasons:
1) he's only an anterior cruciate ligament injury away from disaster
2) there are many players around europe who as good, if not better who could fit into liverpool's midfield and improve them and for far cheaper as well.
