Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
di Maria can, and has played any offensive position in the midfield. He's hardly a one position man.
Falcao may be a great pure striker, but we aren't short of goals or people who can score them, certainly not to the tune of justifying a €60m acquisition, who I genuinely don't think will say it back in merchandise.

It's not exactly like Real Madrid have too menu freescoring players.kingraf wrote:di Maria can, and has played any offensive position in the midfield. He's hardly a one position man.

Cristiano scored around 60 goals per season.
Benzema is a 20-26 goals per season striker.
Bale, at best, is a 25 goal per season player.
Falcao until he got injured last season scored 30+ goal per season for 4 consecutive seasons. Twice for Porto and twice for Atletico.

Three players scoring over 20 a season is more than enough. Especially when one is getting 60.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
If Falcao's scoring 30+ goals per season at the weaker clubs, he'd score 40-50 goals per season at Real Madrid.kingraf wrote:Three players scoring over 20 a season is more than enough. Especially when one is getting 60.
And Cristiano has tendentious, so if he out for 6-8 months, Benzema can't make up the difference.

He's going to be out for two months max Gerry, Madrid really don't need Falcao.

Real Madrid only have 1 striker, Benzema, on their books.Hammersmith harrier wrote:He's going to be out for two months max Gerry, Madrid really don't need Falcao.
Morata has basically been shown the door.
What if Benzema gets injured? No strikers to pick.
Falcao is needed.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
We really don't. If Benzema gets injured, and Ronaldo is out, Bale can play up top. di Maria goes on the right, and James plays trequistra, or Isco, if James doesnt join. Really, I wouldn't mind Falcao on a good deal... but €60m for a 28-year old who's just had knee surgery is excessive, to say the least.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
A striker might be needed but Real do not need to spend 60mil on another player, it's excessive and unnecessary, about time Fifa did something about the Spanish clubs.

30m on a young LB vs 60m for a World Class Striker
Which one is expensive and unnecessary again?

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
30m on Shaw is madness, and there's basically no way he's ever going to justify it. 60m on Falcao is simply stupid, and something you'd expect from an eight year old president.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Javier Hernandez has handed in a transfer request at Man Utd.
Reports in Lisbon are claiming Man Utd are close to signing William Carvalho for £30m. Do Man Utd rate everyone at £30m?
And reports in Turin say Vidal can join Man Utd if the fee of £40m and Nani are on the table.

40m + nani would be a good deal. We get a world class midfielder who will be the rock in our midfield, plus we get to offload nani! I think we can get Vidal if we act quick like we have done recently, otherwise if other big clubs get whiff he's available we'll lose out

Think it's a bit of a pipe dream.
Vidal is considered one of the best cms in the world currently.
Fanciful he will end up with us, which is a shame.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Rodriguez who may well be one of the best players on the planet at this moment in time wasn't what we needed a few years back, I imagine we could have bought almost any top young player for a cut price before they made it big as could almost every other big team.

Whilst it was merely for lulz sake, the argument of "not what we needed" doesnt really stack when Bebe was bought instead.
Granted Bebe probably looks a better player than Nani currently, but, you know, so do I

Gerry, think United will end up with Carvalho & not both him & Vidal. No point spending over £70m on two players, who essentially play similar roles, when the defence still needs surgery.

Toni Kroos agrees Madrid move apparently. Throw Falcao into the mix & Madrid certainly mean business. Could be the start of a dominating era?

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Could well be.
General consensus in France is that Debuchy is heading to the Emirates "Very soon". Be surprised if anything under 12.5m tbh

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Yeah, Debuchy been constantly chirping away & voicing his displeasure about not being with Cabaye 24/7 & not being in Champions League. £12m+ or anywhere near that, Ashley will snap your hand off. Debuchy can't really defend & is woeful in the air. Good riddance I say, seeing as he's nearing 30.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Perhaps but considering Vidal and Carvalho are valued the same, £30m.John wrote:

Vidal would be the better signing, but no champions league might mean he ends up at Real Madrid.
Carvalho, IMO, is a little below the Vidal. A little unproven.
Vidal might just be looking for a new contract at Juventus. Forcing Juventus to match the reported £250,000 United have offered.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I can't see Real going for both Vidal and Kroos.
The main concern would be Bayern deciding they need a Kroos replacement and getting Vidal who's already played in the Bundesliga.

Doubt we'd be spending 10m on a striker considering we've already signed two and haven't actually lost any yet

why not? he's also been allegedly monitored by Liverpool and was linked with Valencia before the worldcup. He should look for a nice transfer bonus now that there is some hype surrounding him and will probably leave Marseilles for 12-15 M€ but think he will fit better in la liga than in the PL.

Not sure what to think of Lallana signing, a lot depends on what happens to Suarez but where does he fit in with Coutinho and Sterling presumably behind Sturridge? All three of them prefer playing centrally so any formation that contains the three wouldn't make best use of their talents.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
yeah, heard that yesterday, apparently £8m for Davies. Danny Rose is appalling, so something had to be done.
Interesting to see how Lallana does. Wouldn't surprise me to see him fade into the background among Sturridge/Sterling.

always thought davies looked pretty solid to me, reliable left back. something which spurs haven't had for a very long time
think lallana for that amount is a poor signing, always thought while tidy enough as a player he doesnt stand out. your average dutch academy player will be equally technically adept and think koeman should be able to replace him easily enough at half the price
