And with that, Abidal has forced through a move away from Monaco as he is upset with Monaco's treatment of Valdes. Love Eric

Di Marzio has said they're in talks so I will accept hes off there. Great move for him really, he'll be getting big money and a chance at a hell of a club

Italian football's the best place for defenders over 30. They seem to be appreciated a bit more over there. It's a win win for both Roma and Cole in my opinion.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
If the reports about Markovic are true, then it suggests Liverpool have given up the ghost regarding Alexis Sanchez.
If Southampton can get £20 million plus for Lovren then it's a great piece of business, particularly if they can replace him with Caulker at a far lower price. Still need to seriously rebuild though.

I'd read QPR had reached an agreement for Caulker. Could be a very good move to have him alongside Rio

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I agree with you about Lovren's attitude, but unfortunately for Southampton fans there's a lot of truth in his comments. Les Reed doesn't fill me with confidence as the main recruitment guy, and hasn't come across well in his interviews.
Redknapp said that QPR will sign Rio, and had a bid accepted for Caulker, but I read Southampton may be interested in him as well.

Is Origi being loaned back to Lille? Agree, looks a Senegalese type post 2002 WC signing that one, good pace but nothing sensational.
Also just a rumour Napoli/Monaco both interested in Moussa Sissoko. Hopefully nothing happens.

I've got the same feeling about Alexis. Really hope I'm proven wrong, but knowing us we'll probably have to make do with a deadline day swoop for Saloman Kalou.

Well we all can't make RVW type signings can we.
I like the look of him, cheap, only 19 and has bags of potential.
Would probs cost closer to 20mill if he was English.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I like the look of Origi. Good signing for Liverpool and gives them 3 strikers to work with after the inevitable Suarez exit.
Sanchez to Arsenal looks pretty much set in stone. Great signing for Arsenal that.
On Man Utd, starting to get twitchy about Vidal. Honestly thought we had no chance but seems we do, especially with Juve wanting evra/nani, a good bargaining tool. Unfortunately, kroos is off to real and now bayern are lining him up as their replacement. Would be very tough to fend bayern off but hopefully we try and get a deal done quickly.
Other rumour is di maria for 48m. Allot of money but a genuinely world class winger. Would be a terrific coup if we could get him. Takes the pressure of Januzaj to a certain extent and he can continue to develop without having the burden of almost being our number 1 outlet as was the case many of times last season. Exciting times for us utd fans, although the new kit has been ruined by chevrolet. Looks a stunner if it weren't for that logo.

Sanchez would be another statement of intent from Arsenal. Add a striker like Balotelli and they could have some sticking power next season.

Haven't seen enough of Yedlin to form an opinion of how he'll do in the Premier League, but I doubt he'll be granted a work permit as he hasn't met the appearance threshold in competitive internationals.

Sanchez would be a bit of a fool to join arsenal IMO. Better options out there for him. That being said if Arsenal were likely to get him that would put them as legit title contenders IMO.

Yedlin would be better off somewhere he actually has a chance to develop a bit, from what I've seen of him. Good pace and work rate, but I can't see him starting at a big club.

Not sure what these options are. Juve cleaning up a poor Serie A.
Liverpool after 1 good season having lost their star player.

No clue why Arsenal are going after Sanchez. They need to get tougher. Not add to a position where they already have talent.

Because they have the squad to take apart most of the league, they need the star players to make a difference in the big games.
As much as people criticise Ozil, he had a galvanising impact when he joined. Sanchez can do similar.

But without a ball winning holding mid or more depth than Per and Kos at centre back they're open to be picked off like they were by Schurrle and Eto'o.
Or is Arsene's gameplan "You score 5, we'll score 6!"

Chris Baird signs, now being linked with a move for Alan Hutton. It's going to be a long season.

I don't get the obsession with a DM, few teams actually use an out and out DM anymore. Lars Bender is the hot name anyway.
Arsenals issues in big games were 2 fold. 1. A surplus of good players, lack of great players and 2. mentality, they don't believe they're at that level.
Sanchez helps the first, and as with Ozil can the second.

I don't completely agree with that GSC. In the big games they got picked off by not having the midfield to stop and start attacks. They don't specifically have to use a holding midfielder, but their balance isnt quite right behind their attacking quartet.

Not an out and out DM. Just somebody is isn't going to flake easily.
Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Agree with CFCNick, need that powerhouse in the midfield away from home, like Khedira or along those lines. Sanchez would be a great signing & would do more than Giroud in big games, but doesn't really solve their main issue from last year. I'd like to see something like this -
- - - - - - -Sanchez--------
--Oxlade-----Ozil------Walcott
-----Wilshere----Khedira------
Gibbs-Koscielny-Mert--Debuchy

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I resigned myself to relegation when Irvine was appointed.
Thankfully, a move for Hutton is only being "considered" at the moment. For those who don't know, Hutton isn't exactly well-liked amongst Albion supporters for a horrific tackle on Shane Long a couple of years ago that I can't find a video for.
Add that to the fact he is awful and plays for Villa, it will probably make him the most unpopular Albion signing ever if it happens!
Hoping against hope it's a smoke-screen for someone else. Or that we are saving money on full backs to buy 1 winger and 2 strikers worth decent money. Not going to happen though!

I know that's a shot at SoCal going over the top about Ramsey, but I can't see how Wilshere would get in the side ahead of him.

I met Shane Long in a bar in Birmingham a few weeks after that tackle.
Had a beer with him and his mates.
Top lad. The tackle came up and he just said it was one of those things.
He started laughing when we taking the pi55 out of Hutton for being so bad.
He doesn't play for us, he just rots in the reserve.
Actually dont even think he gets in our reserve.

Yeah, Long said similar in the press, but the fans haven't been quite as forgiving, or at least they weren't the last time he actually played against us!
And stop it West, please, you're really cheering me up with that!
