Oh, come on! Brazil were poor, but you surely can't deny Khedira had a great game? Of course it helped that it was an incredible team performance, and Khedira certainly didn't boss the game on his own (Neuer, Lahm, Kroos, Muller were all brilliant too), but surely that performance forced you to revise your opinion of him at least a little?

Mate, Tino Best nearly scored a hundred against what was the best team in the world at the time, Morne Steyn looked, in 2009-10 when the bulls were invincible because of that pack, like the reincarnation of Captain Carlos... it will surprise a lot of people, but I don't particularly rate these two either as a batsman, or a playmaking flyhalf.

haha bite. i dont even rate khedira that highly - he's good but not that good, just think he's unappreciated in what he does. enjoyable reading the reactions though.

No different to you and 20-goals a season Giroud, then.

That's a fair riposte (if a little harsh in the comparison). I daresay that if you're a Madrid fan, that you've seen a lot more of Khedira than I have. I would say that whenever I've seen him, I've thought he looked disciplined and tidy, with a great engine. He's by no means as rounded as the likes of Kroos, but I think he's an important cog in that he's probably the best ball-winner in the German midfield (if you accept Lahm as a fullback). I see him as one of those players who may not be remarkable, but allows others to flourish.

I suspect that that's the hope with Khedira, ball winning, like a more skilled Makelele... He isn't. He doesn't look bad in that German midfield, but... who would? It's like being put on rattle duty for the Beatles. I hope I've seen the last of him in a Madrid shirt, especially if Kroos has come in.

You're not gonna get a hardwork, no frills player regarded at Madrid. And even when the fans do actually like them, the money men are far from interested.

Yeah, look at everything he won us since he came in, the graft he put in all those Clásicos, or the anonymous work he put in when we couldn't keep Munich out in 2012, or Dortmund the following year. I wasn't keen on Modric, a year ago, but I'll gladly eat my words. Wasn't keen on Bale either, and while he'll never be worth the price tag, he's a better than useful addition... But my God, is Khedira expendable. Didn't even think he was that bad till Di Maria moved to the middle. Sounds like we'll get 20-25m for him. Which again will be ridiculous business on a player with only one year left on his contract... Having done some fantastic business during the world cup, if Marca is to be believed. I'm expecting an impossibly costly acquisition any time now.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Your getting Falcao & Kroos. Think it would be a mistake getting rid of a Khedira type with Alonso on his last legs, Casemiro looking average & Illarramendi not having much impact.

West Ham release Alou Diarra, arguably our worst signing of recent history.
I get the feeling we are also chasing Konoplyanka and Enner Valencia for one spot, so one or t'other, but more likely neither.

No. But it seems you're suggesting it's merely coincidence We got bossed in the bigger games when he was busy doing "no frills" work. You'd swear I'm suggesting we release Makelele. He wasn't even there for the key parts our Campaign last year, and was hardly missed.
Is the Falcao deal confirmed? I've taken a wait and see approach with Monaco deals. They don't need the money, and can offer CL football...and guarantee tax free earnings.

Thats fine, it means hes a short price because it doesnt take into account him staying. So its if he leaves hes 8/11 to then join United.

Some of these odds are unfairly short. Ronaldo at 7/1? He just signed a new deal seven months ago, and had a career season. Correctly calling him moving to United should be much more rewarding. Hazard to PSG looks a little short. Mario B to arsenal doesn't seem too bad.

£10m+ in the end for Debuchy. Very good deal.
Richards at 4/7 is way off with his wage demands. Don't want Isla, would be happy with Janmaat or maybe Tiote can attract Aurier to Tyneside.

the odds will simply lower because evra is going juve, fans of which there are many united fans will back it thinking he's going to be involved in a player swap, therefore the bookies have to lower the odds

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I'd imagine its not really that. Merely the fact that United are favourites if he is leaving, and rightfully odds on favourites. The stumbling block in any deal is Juve, and that stumbling block isnt really so much an issue when him staying at Juve isnt in the market

Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.
The clubs have reached a deal in principle and the 25-year-old has agreed personal terms.
Arsenal are set to pay in the region of £30m for the Chile international

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Sanchez is a very good player and i'd have loved us to sign him but i'm not sure he's really what Arsenal need, yet another player who won't stand up and be counted when the going gets tough.
I sincerely hope and pray that we sign Vidal, his signing alone would make us title challengers in my opinion and would open the door for other top name signings to join.

One of the papers (or at least one, as I read one site today) was confident Remy and Debuchy will follow. The latter seems nailed on. BBC seemed to say Arsenal will look for a backup keeper and a holding midfielder

Sanchez would be a pretty incredible signing. He's immense. Again you don't turn down quality like that (why I was surprised they turned down Cesc)

It's true you don't turn down that quality and he could be an awesome signing for Arsenal but much like us signing Mata it didn't solve any of our problems while you never know how he'll adapt to the league. Certainly a risk worth taking though, much more so than Chelsea buying Costa.

The Mata transfer is what I'd liken it too, another fantastic weapon added.
But yes I agree they still have issues they need to address, and Mathieu Debuchy doesn't solve anything

Olly, i'd say they're both fan friendly signings, gives everyone a boost without really improving the team drastically, it's a sign of intent more than anything.

Doesn't strike me as a very Pep signing to be honest, he's a bit too dynamic and buccaneering, he's not exactly a top drawer passer either.

Depends on how they use him, if they can put him wide, then Theo can go through the middle which is an improvement of Giroud and Walcott out wide. Will be very interesting to see what they do with him!Hammersmith harrier wrote:Olly, i'd say they're both fan friendly signings, gives everyone a boost without really improving the team drastically, it's a sign of intent more than anything.

Can just see Arsenal becoming predictable with Sanchez/Walcott/Oxlade types. Top teams will still sit deep & counter all day long. It will end up ( and your gonna laugh), second half Giroud introductions being effective & changing games with a different option & a plan b.
I`m not creaming myself over seeing Sanchez for Arsenal, just after a good WC. He's not prolific, just has a good engine & pace.
