Good engine, great pace & can score some goals. He's not prolific though & the EPL will be tougher for him, than the stat enhancer that is La Liga. Seen loads of him in La Liga, inconsistent & there is a reason why Barcelona are selling. I'm not getting carried away because of WC performances, unlike some. He's a good signing, but is he the top striker who will score 30 goals, like Aguero, Suarez or RVP. Not for me.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Viewed some Arsenal forums too tonight, saying the same thing. Sanchez is a good signing but he's not prolific & he wont solve the issue of Arsenals lack of goals in comparison to the title rivals. Remy too isn't a natural finisher, not sure why Wenger skirts around what Arsenal actually need. A top class, proven, prolific, world class or as near as striker, who will bang 30 goals & lead you to a title. That's my opinion.

Amazing how Arsene hasn't accomplished such a simple task.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
The guy was sensational in Italy, has been brilliant internationally before now and got 19 goals last season in La Liga.
Hes not the top striker who will score 30 goals because that isnt his position or game. But, arguably, when you have as good a side as goalscoring from its support staff as Arsenal do then you dont need the 30 goal man.
Its not the be all and end all, but its a brilliant signing nonetheless.

I sense sarcasm, but how many years does he intent to avoid buying a top class striker? Remy is a 1 in 3 man, Sanchez`s record isn't prolific, what is it 20 in 70 for Chile? He was sensational in Italy but goal tally was low.
.
Dolph, Arsenal`s issue was needing a top class striker. The whole point of that was because the `support staff` couldn't break down the top teams in the defining big games.

Im delighted if it comes through when Theo is injured we lack people running on beyond Giroud so hopefully he'll sort that because Santi & Ozil won't do it.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Fernando, I agree with your point. It's not the no.9 striker though, I believe Arsenal required to go to the next level, that's all my point was.
Guest- Guest
Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I just dont agree that that is the reason they didnt break down the top teams. They didnt have a foothold to defend midfield against them. They need pace for those games, why Walcott's injury was such a blow, but Sanchez would offer the ability to get in behind if he played centrally or if he played deeper.
Unless they can get an absolutely top drawer, can't be turned down striker, then its not an issue. Its certainly lower priority than right back and deeper in midfield

Thought you'd be interested to know Olly that according to our young Jack, Nathan Redmond would cost a club £10m to buy.

Newcastle back in for Remy. Looks like we lost out on everyone else & throwing everything behind this deal, which is a positive. Also, looking to wrap up the Remy Cabella deal for around £10m.
Galatasaray reveal that £20m(euros) to activate Sneijder release clause. Good luck with that.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I suppose with Sanchez moving to Arsenal, the chances of Remy going there now are pretty low. Do you think he'd want to go back to newcastle john or do you think he'll try and hold out for a move elsewhere, maybe to Spurs or a club like that?

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
We are definitely not his first choice, that's Arsenal, then his backup is Spurs. At Arsenal he will get limited time behind Sanchez/Giroud, not sure Spurs is a massive step up to us in all honesty. I hear we are now desperate for Remy after missing out on all the other targets, I expect we will make it financially rewarding for him coming back to us. If Cabella can join too, would be a huge double swoop & would also persuade Moussa Sissoko to stay.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Surprised Cabella (No offence meant here John) hasn't attracted bigger clubs. Wasn't it only last summer he was linked with Man Utd? swear the owner said he was worth 70m or something stupid or am i thinking of someone else? Keeping Sissoko would be a massive plus. Still need to replace Cabaye however

So Evra's asked to leave? Good, there's no room for sentiment in football.

Montpeliler president keeps on saying he "needs" 16M€ for Cabella (£12-13m). Marseilles also allegedly interested and they paid that sort of money for Thauvin last year so who knows.

He should have!! He must mean it this time then. Seeing as he only signed a new contract extension not that long ago (I think?) he's not after money.

We've lost a lot of experienced heads this summer and brought in younger players so far. Would be good to have evra around from that point of view.

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
I understand (ok merely read on t'BBC) that Evra had a 1 year additional year clause activated by utd, presumably in the full knowledge he wanted to go, so that they could generate something from a player that could otherwise have walked for nowt. Don't think he wanted to stay anyway, certainly didn't look like he wanted to be there last year anyway. Or the year before tbh.
Italy for Vidic and Evra? Makes sense because of the pace of play I guess, Italian sides can get years more effective use that a PL side for those that are skillfull enough and they certainly are. Leave the charging around at 100mph to the English sides.

We have been linked with Bendtner.
Lambert has sent Helenius back on loan frm where we got him.
Maybe if you played him Paul when Benteke was injured he might have done well.
At least give him a fkng go.
And I just read Lambert blocked the Hutton move to WBA.
FFS.

Granted thats the most likely outcome, happy enough if he stays or goes.
We look very inexperienced at the back going into the new season, but plenty of time in transfer window.

inexperienced at the back or not its still better than having a defender who couldn't be arsed defending for the last 3 years, he needed to go.
not even convinced he was such a good leader, certainly didnt lead on the pitch and with france only seems to cause trouble. sign of the total lack of leaders we currently have that evra was vice/captain at times

Re: 2014 Summer Transfer Window Thread
Been scouting him for six months apparently. We must have been gutted when he played well in the World Cup. Price hike. We obviously want to upgrade our winger-cum-striker position, we wanted to last year and fluffed it, so we've looked at Valencia and Konoplyanka.

We're hearing that Chile forward Alexis Sanchez has now passed his medical at Arsenal and the 25-year-old's switch from Barcelona to the Emirates should be confirmed very soon. Alexis is understood to have agreed a four-year deal and the fee will be around £32million

That's a relief! Though Hutton will probably end up scoring against us now.

I think you do him a disservice. Past his best bit I thought he was reasonable this season.
Certainly a big personality within the dressing room and very much known as a leader.
I feel his experience could be invaluable off the pitch. With vidic and rio gone and giggs retiring we've only really carrick and Rooney as seasoned campaigners used to winning things.
Either way extending his contract either means we get a few quid for him or make use of his non playing skills so I think it was a good idea all in all.

on the pitch i think he's been shocking and lazy, doesnt even bother getting out to the wingers and lets them cross it in. decent going forward which he gets to do a lot playing for united but a absolute liability defending. put him in a team where he wouldnt be able to attack all game and you would see that he wasnt "reasonable"
giggs is still in the dressing room, lack of leaders has been a problem with this united team way before vidic and evra started leaving. RVP is the only one who's been captain anywhere

all depends on what LVG thinks of rooney, i dont want him as captain thats for sure. holland captain under LVG has been RVP so may continue it, he obviously trusts him. i have no idea who else there is, evans?

I don't see Evans being captain but he's a good shout for vice-captain. I completely forgot about RVP - he has to be nailed on for it surely?

think id be happy with rvp captain carrick/evans vice, as long as its not rooney in either. although LVG may placate him by making him vice
im still hoping for a experienced CB to come in, he may well be a candidate

You clearly can't understand English. Never said he wasn't any good, just not the prolific striker that Arsenal needed, to be the difference maker in the big games.
