Belgium have not impressed me at all, lack cohesion. I think that under Klinsmann, the USA are tactically superior and will pick Belgium on a counter attack.

Robben gets a beloved penalty.

Ah, isn't sport cruel?

I wont to dig my old post out bt I said that Holland would win 2-1 in extra time (ok this was not the extra time I was thinking of) due to some Robben theatrics.

Not complaining, local boy Huntelaar scores Very Happy

All that said, Mexico deserved more. I think they were the better team on the day.

And Argentina barely squeezed past Iran... Thing is, Nederland perform against the bigger teams. Its just what they do and Argentina have hardly set the finals on fire either.

The way the Dutch defended Messi and co would have an absolute field day

For some reason mexico just decided to defend for 30 mins, never gonna work against divers like Robben, they'll cheat to a pen at some point

I know a lot of people preferred to see Holland win that one but a Mexico-Costa Rica then a Mexico v Argentina QF would also have been a very decent match to watch.

Um...I thought it was a penalty.

Marquez is a very, very clumsy player. Yes, Robben's looking for it, but it's still a trip, and it's a clear pen.

Well done referee.

Very close game that could have gone either way but thats knock out football.

Mexico in the end paid the price for sitting deep and making poor decisions re defensive shape. Leaving no one up meaning they have to take men off the posts to mark attackers and letting the Dutch have easy transitions when they cleared the ball.

Make enough lunging tackles at Robben and he will punish you, thought that one was a penalty - contact was minimal but it was still there. First half was a clear one not given.

Robben on Dutch TV has just said that he would have been better to go down on the initial contact than on the second contact for the penalty!!! The commentators are in shock, he stopped one word short of saying he dived.

That is so poor, diving and then admitting he looked for the penalty and went to ground easily. I feel for Mexico.

haven't seen it a second time, but it looked a penalty first watch. I mean, does the contact justify the reaction? No, but he steps on his toes (I think), and that's a foul anywhere else on the field. Hardly as bad as old "trip yourself instead of shooting" which got Greece through

Ridiculous on Robben, really disgraceful. The guy is the worst diver in world football. He had about 10 dives in the Champions league against Arsenal and for a player as good as he is it is absolutely shameful. The Mexicans were really hard done and I am no fan of their team. He dove all night long till he got his penalty. Really, loathe the guy as good a player as he is, he is way worse than Suarez or anyone else in the EPL I can think of. The dutch scammed their way to the quarters. I would much rather see Robben banned for 4 months than Suarez frankly, Suarez is a nutjob Hannibal lecter wannabe. Robben is worse he is a cheat and a fraud. Ask the Mexicans if they would rather have Suarez nibble on them or Robben dive about the pitch for 90 minutes till he gets his penalty.

Robben should have had three penalties.

He hurdled out the way of one, the referee didn't see another, but fortunately justice was done in the end.

He steps and his foot lands cm, maybe mm, from Robben.

Marquez used tackle!
Marquez's attack missed!
Robben used dive!
It's super effective!
