Wimbledon Day 9
First topic message reminder :
Well let us draw breath from yesterday's results!
What a day of play we have...And I will be at work missing it all! Bollox!
We have on CC
Halep v Lisicki
Murray v Dimitrov
Federer v Wawrinka
On C1
Bouchard v Kerber
Djokovic v Cilic
Raonic v Kyrgios
Who will stand victorious come Sunday?

Though that only affects me in team sports and regarding Paris in general, I love individual French people and JWT is in my top 3 players

I can see why you gave up.

If Nole plays like he did today, even when he was winning it wasn't amazing, and Dimi doesn't get tight, he should beat Nole. Big if though

Re: Wimbledon Day 9
I honestly thought the earth might spin off its axis when Federer and Novak were both down a set, after seeing Murray crash out.
Andy was just insipid today. Danny was right, I'm not a particular fan but I was disappointed with him today - no grit displayed whatsoever. What on earth happened? He's looked brilliant this tournament until now. Commiserations Craig, Danny, MfC et al. Didn't see Novak, but kudos to HMM for making me laugh with images of drunken Nole scampering like bambi over the grass trying to avoid the net
Federer got out of jail today, but he by no means played a poor match. Midway through the third set, just before Stan really started to suffer, I thought it was reasonably even with Stan looking minor favourite due to baseline exchange dominance. Pretty high quality match regardless, at least until poor Stan's form started plummeting. Looks like the scheduling got to him in the end, such a shame
It's all looking very interesting for the SFs, very open. Last chance saloon for Fed? Novak wobbling, Dimi looking good, Raonic flying below all known radar...
Outstanding

I did see on another forum that it was suggested that Lu was paid by Halle organisers to allow Federer a W/O

Silver, I said earlier on the thread that Andy has replaced Lendl's mental superpowers with Mauresmo's mental midgetery.

So it would seem, BB. That type of defeat can leave some scarring, too; let's hope he comes back from this strongly.
I want to see the old slice'n'dice Murray return to the tour.

I'd prefer like Federer v Del Potro AO 2009.legendkillarV2 wrote:DirectView2 wrote:legendkillarV2 wrote:Raonic finally ends this plucky youngster's tournament.
Raonic has crept under the radar this tournament. Hope he can back it up against Federer.
Like a Federer - Del Potty FO 2009?
More like Federer v Del Potro US Open 2009

Although I want Raonic to lose pretty much every match he'll ever play, he looked really good against Kyrgios. The last time I saw him he was just a serve and a forehand. Now he has a better backhand and has added a slice too. His volleying isn't up to scratch just yet but I think that's something he can work on. Scarily enough, I think his serve can get faster too.

Come on KR, there is a story waiting to be told here. A new thread, perhaps.
Afraid not LF - it's not an altogether well reasoned argument... I suspect the reality is South Africans are just bitter about having to wake up at 2 a.m. for the last twenty years to watch our cricket teams get thrashed down under. I suspect Emotionally distressing events witnessed while suffering from sleep deprivation fosters a feeling of resentment towards all things Australian.

Is it Helen Wills Moody with Lace underwear that shocked the sensibilities of the then W crowd in 1935?

This SB? Because this SB is very pleased indeedlaverfan wrote:SB would be thrilled, one step closer to hallowed W trophy.
I am very happy with how this Wimbledon has worked out. From my perspective, the worst we can get from here on is Nole beating Raonic in the final, and even that would be ok-ish. Happy that Fed is still in, happy that Dimi finally made the SF, happy for Raonic too, even though I am not a huge fan of his game (though I like the man himself quite a lot), happy Rafa lost early, happy a teenager won a nice scalp. What is there not to be happy about.
I will be thrilled if Grigor wins the trophy but - as much as I like him and as much as I want the youngsters to start winning - my optimal result would involve Grigor losing in the final

I will have to edit carefully. All I'll say at this stage is that it involves Eugenie Bouchard and was triggered when watching Chrissie Evert in the studio.

Re: Wimbledon Day 9
We could still have a Dimitrov vs Raonic final. That would be a pretty strong statement and a change of the guard signal.
One of my wild tennis dreams has - after Nole, Andy and Rafa retired - Fed fighting for the major trophies with Dimitrovs, Ranoics, Kyrgioses of this world. If, somehow or other, Fed beats Raonic and then gets to play Grisha in the final, that would be the closest thing to the fulfillment of that dream.

Totally missed Wimbledon so far this year, with the world cup distractions.
Few upsets agin, which I think is good.
Also caught an interview with Eugenie Bouchard.
Wow, another looker.
